Title: Ever think of your own funeral?
Post by: Blazor on August 30, 2017, 09:27:55 PM
Is it weird to want to plan your funeral? Like, I would like to have an Irish wake the day before, lots of my favorite party tunes and Water of Life. I want it to be a night of fun and remembrance, cause I like to have fun and listen to music and have a good time with friends. For my funeral I would like certain songs as well, songs to remember me by. Then have a Native American funeral, just put me on a platform of wood, and light me on fire and watch me float into the wind lol.

I dont want a traditional funeral, at all. Not a boring thing, nor hymnals, I dont want it to be a sad thing.

Have y'all ever thought how you would like your funeral to be? Or am I just too much of a planner lol. Never know when ya gonna go.

This is just a sample of songs I've thought of night before and day of...

I don't want a funeral.  I want a beer and pizza party with much joy and laughter as possible.

I've already signed up to donate my body to medical science.

I want no commotion whatsoever, no ceremony, no party, no nothin. Only my ashes secretly spread "alone" by my mate (if he is alive at the time) in the bushes of our almost daily together-time little shaded park ... our secret little "heaven" ... done secretly  late at night with love with  no one around but us

I want to be cremated.  The thought of being in a tiny box for years and years sets off my claustrophobia alarm.

After that put my ashes in an ash tray, I'll pretend I was a cigarette.

Normally, a person in good health and my age wouldn't pay much more than a passing thought about their own funeral..

But, after losing my daughter and my father, my husband and I have made notes of what we want and a budget for our own funerals..

And of course, in the event we both pass before our children are adults.

I have money set aside for the day after my last day. The old lady can have me cremated and throw a life celebration. No funeral home for me.

Since my assets (and wishes) would all default to the government after my parents passed, I had no choice but to get a will made.

And yes, funeral arrangements are clearly outlined also...  Burn me, and dump me off the White Rock pier.  No joke!  That's how I have it set up, for my listed executors!

Im all in agreement on having joy and laughter  ac_drinks

But donating your body to science.... you do know what they do to your body right? My dad use to do autopsies. He told me they do things like pour acid on your skin just to see what it does. I wouldnt want to be mutilated.

I love it CC  ac_smile

To be honest, I know the Native American funeral wont work legally for me lol. So one of my real ideas was just to be cremated, and have my ashes spread at my favorite camping spot that hardly no one knows about, with maybe a LotR quote of my choosing carved into a rock there

Death usually triggers those thoughts. Believe me I know what ya mean. I think thats why I've thought of my own funeral since I was young. My Uncle's funeral was the first one I went to where music was played that fit the person, not gospel music. I loved it, cause it reminded me of him. I still think of him every time I hear Freebird and I dont change the radio station. So of course I played songs for my mom's and wife's funeral that was music they either liked or was fitting for the funeral.

"No I dont wanna be buried, in a Pet Cemetery" lol

From that Stephen King movie lol.

I dont wanna go in the ground either. Cremation is much more affordable too.

Ya know now they try and sell you a box to burn them in? Like a coffin, expensive, use to be a sheet. I died laughing when my father in-law was there and they were trying to sell us on it, he said "what difference does it make, your just gonna burn it anyway" lol. There was a cardboard box option that we chose.

Amazing group.

I've been listening to BÖC since the mid 70's since I bought "On Your Feet or On Your Knees".  They're the only group that I can say I've bought every album from beginning to end.  They're talking about recording again later this year, so it's not over yet!

We don't have kids either. Everything goes to my wife if I pass first and vice versa. If we pass at the same time, everything wiil be divided equally among our nieces and nephews. My wife's eldest niece is the executor if that scenario were to happen.

Quote from: "Alcoholic"Why do you people plan your deaths?

When my parents died, I had no choice...

I have no brothers, sisters, kids, grandparents, or legal spouse.

What this means, at least in British Columbia, is my entire estate would be, by default, handled by the government, with ALL value and decision making capability left to them.  They would be the beneficiary.

Most people are not in my situation, and even without a will, would have a default family member or spouse that would be able to handle affairs.

I am not one of those people, and it is of UTMOST importance that I maintain a will, which generally does have a clause for funeral wishes...

I just think its good that if you have certain wishes, that they are addressed before ya actually die. Like I dont wanna go in the ground, nor have a traditional funeral. I go up and down the interstate all the time, avoiding accidents all the time, but one of those times might hit me, or it might not, just never know when ya gonna go.

Checklist: Pre-Planning Your Funeral or Memorial Service

This article on funeral planning is provided by Everplans — The web's leading resource for planning and organizing your life. Create, store and share important documents that your loved ones might need.

Planning your own funeral or memorial service can provide peace-of-mind to you and your family.

By planning your service in advance you can design and specify the exact type of service you'd like, so that your friends and family celebrate you as you wish. And by letting your family know how you'd like your funeral or memorial service to be, they'll have less difficult and complicated decisions to make during a difficult emotional time. To learn more about how and why to plan your funeral or memorial service in advance, click here.

Make decisions about the type of service and events you'd like to have

Decide on the type of service you want to have:

I would like to have only a graveside service or a service at the crematory, followed by burial or cremation

I would like to have a memorial service after the burial or cremation

I would like to have a funeral service in my own home

Decide if you want any other funeral events:

I would like to have a viewing before my funeral

I would like to have a wake before my funeral

I would like to observe my religion's mourning events

Identify personal touches you'd like at the service

Once you have finished pre-planning your funeral you should create an Everplan where you can store these plans and share them with trusted deputies who will carry out your wishes.

P.S. You really should try out your own Everplan.

It's really simple to set up, it's free to try, and it can make a world of difference for your family if something happens to you. Set up your Everplan now.

But when you die... Its lights out... It doesnt matter what they do with your body.

Oh I know. Jus cheaper than going in the ground lol.

Nah, my mom was either suicide or murder. There was no wishes or anything, so at the age of 22 I had to figure everything out myself. Kinda stressful to do within a couple days with no warning and her just up and gone. Then there was my wife, we knew she only had 6 months, so we had some time to go over things. Just wouldnt want to leave everything on someone else to figure out ya know?
