My husband used to be a regular Simpsons viewer, but he can't believe the show is still on the air..
He says the quality of the episodes has been subpar for many years.

I'm not even an occasional viewer.
The program has been around for 28 years, so they must have been doing something right. When long running shows start tinkering with the formula they tend to do away quite quickly.

I read it's losing viewers..
If that's the case, they are winding down.

Around the world there are longer running series, such as Coronation Street (UK, 1960 - still running), Dr Who (UK, 1963 - still running) and Home and Away (Australia, 1988 - still running), but the Simpsons have still had a massively impressing run.
I'm guessing the Simpsons is by far the longest running animated TV series, ever.

All good things must eventually come to an end. And your hubby is right, it stopped being a good show years ago, perhaps decade(s).
