Title: Can you live without the Internet for a Day?
Post by: JOE on September 08, 2017, 02:06:55 PM
...or two?

How about just one day per week?

Have you tried it lately?

Whether it be from your PC, your cellphone, home, Internet cafe, etc.

I guess this thread is along the lines of RW's old thread, "Is the Internet/Technology ruining us?"

Anyways, I came across this thread, which suggested taking a day a week to be Internet-Free.

Save it for a Sunday]

Step away from your touch-screen devices for a more retro, less stressful weekend all round

Having an internet-free day will help you realise how much you unthinkingly use it. When you feel the need to visit your usual go-to sites, find an alternative. Buy a newspaper instead of Googling, meet with a friend and set the world to rights rather than browsing Twitter. At the end of the day, ask yourself, what did you miss? Where did you go or what did you do instead? How many emails did you get and how many were important?

We believe 'the simple things' are all about taking time to live well, to enjoy the now, slow down a little and remember moments that matter. Throughout the magazine, we'll be putting our Sunday Best logo on cakes, things to plan and do and mini-projects for in and around the home. Tell us your #sundaysuggestions of what makes you happy at the weekend - share them on Twitter or snap them on Instagram. We'll share the best ones every Friday.

QuoteI have a confession

The internet makes me nervous. Not the way you might think. I don't fear identity theft or stumbling onto an offensive website or being led astray with misinformation. Rather, the more I use the internet, the more restless I become, the shorter my attention span, and the more challenging I find it to simply sit still. It took me a long time to make the connection. I'm in my 40's, and people say hormonal changes affect all of these things. I thought it was just a sign of age that I went from being someone who read a couple of full-length books every week, to someone who carried the same book around for a year. Then there's that feeling in my stomach – the butterflies that I enjoyed when I was a teenager and saw a cute boy across the junior high school dance floor – but now they flutter all the time. I am always buzzing.

One day, I decided to take a weekend off from the internet altogether. In fact, I gave up tv, too, and I don't have a cell phone, so I got to experience a screen-free, distraction-free weekend. Let me tell you: it was AMAZING. The days are so long! There is time to spare. I finished one book and started another. I got all my cooking done for the week, without feeling any pressure to do so. I spent time outside, soaking up nature, walking slowly, listening to the wind. I was creative – I wrote in my journal, I drew a mandala, I took artistic photos of my neighborhood.

Can Joe live without trolling for a day?

Odinson and Edward from VF for sure..

Possibly Freud too, but I haven't seen him lurking here in months..

There are others I'm sure, but I'm going shopping now, so that's all I have time to think about for now.
