There are also tonnes of streets that are in desperate need of repair, they are crumbling, falling apart and pot holes everywhere....but instead they keep ripping up roads that are fine or have previously been paved 6 months or a year ago, all over again???? This I can not comprehend??? Why?? For Gods sakes...the main road where I live has been ripped up and repaved 3 years in a row!! There was ZERO need to do this!!!

Traffic congestion makes it less liveable for sure. I agree completely about decentralizing offices. I think that would fix a lot of issues with traffic. The bike lane thing was ridiculous.

Yes you are right about the pipes...they dug up the main road where I live a couple summers ago and replaced them...it was so chaotic that year! Machinery and equipment everywhere for months on end....continuous paving by squeeky high pitched machines during the wee hours of the night....(I didnt hear them but it bothered Lo and many of my neighbors)...
...Finally that shit was done and a nice new road was available for the parade of traffic to non stop flowing in the morning so everyone can get to van...and just keep driving at all hours anyway...
...however, the next summer...for no fuckin reason....they dug up the entire street again (no pipes or anything under it getting fixed) and repaved it....and they did a horrible fuckin job....THEN....again this year, same shit....they repaved it again for no reason....this is beyond ridiculous....I can understand the pipe upgrade a few years ago...but to repave it again 2 years in a row was not neccessary.
And speaking of bike lanes....they just recently repaved areas and painted lines for bikes....you should see the streets...bits of bright green bike paths all broken up and no connections....you look at it and question if its supposed to be a bike lane or if its just a suggestion?
And who the hell is gonna ride their bike to work from my area to Vancouver?? Or even locally??? Its fucking raining and freezing here in the winter....can you imagine office women riding their bike to work in rainy freezing temps?? Suit all soaked, masacara running and burning their eyes.....have you seen the way people drive here?? Its a suicide mission!!! Just yesterday I was at a 4 way stop...I was the first to arrive and I STOPPED...then all the other 3 cars from all other direction stops did NOT stop....I watched all 3 of them enter the intersection at the same time and all of them hit their breaks and were yelling at eachother...I shit you not...I see shit like this everyday....mind you, I was hoping they would all crash so I could enjoy a better picture of their ridiculousness...If I only had a dash cam, I could post on here most of the shit I see everyday. Its scary to drive today.

The Burrard St. Bridge bike lane was so incredibly stupid. City planners in Van are dum.

Yes they have those...BUT...they are only in action in later evening....some at majorly huge intersections where there is a lot of foot action along with massive cameras everywhere.
They do have left turning signals up....as it is very much needed in my area...now get this...they are only generally in use after 7pm when there is no traffic. Peak hours these signals are not in use. I have to take back roads and short cuts just so I can get to where Im going cause the signals arent in use and traffic is backed up...
Whats even worse, is the idiot driver in front of all the traffic waiting to turn but wont creep up into the intersection....therefore causing a delay after delay of not moving traffic....this is how accidents are caused because people get pissed off....have you any idea what its like to be stuck behind a moron who wont advance into the intersection and knowing if he doesnt, there is no break in on coming traffic, no one will ever get a chance to turn....whats even worse is being stuck where you are and yoi cant get out of the lane cause your litterally surrounded in vehicles.

I guess this is what they call 'the Bag Ladies'.
The overwhelming majority of the homeless in our city are men, but there's an increasing number that are women.
I never used to see them before. But now they are appearing more and more.
It's really quite sad, because it's a sign that our society is unable or unwilling to take care of its most vulnerable citizens.

Well S'Mel, it could also be a sign of darker days to come.
Yeah, they build build build like there's no tomorrow.
And of course, it's not sustainable. If these people or a portion of them leave, decide to park their money elsewhere, the construction could all come to a grinding halt.
The city politicians/planners are greedy, filling their pockets, all lining up to make a buck.
All in it for the short term.
That's all it's about for them. They don't care about the future or the people of Vancouver.
And the federal government seems far more intent to help out Arab refugees then our own people born in this country. They should help our citizens first, and if there's enough left over, then help the refugees, who should be gettin' the dirt, not the the gold. Instead its many Canadians in need, our youth and seniors who are getting the dirt. Priorities are mixed up here.

Well, my advice to you, is if you're in the construction industry, make as much money as you can while the times are good. Cuz if it slows down, it could come crashing down.
Pocket and Save as much for the lean times as ya can.
I've seen a couple of busts-crashes before in Vancouver.

Actually you're right berry. I noticed when I was walking downtown how closely the buildings are now. All these high rises shut all the sunlight out at street level. So it's quite possible that if u lived there as a shut in or old person, yad never get any sunlight all day long in parts of the city. I've been in other cities where the buildings are just as tall or taller. Yet they don't block the sunlight out like that. And you're right-it's a sign of bad city planning. It's a case of developers and politicians lining their pockets laughing all the way to to the bank creating this nightmare ugh city of the future. Then the dolts will finally wake up in ten years and realize the nightmare they've created. It already is a mess but it'll only get worse.
Our fuckhead mayor wants to knock down the Georgia viaduct without offering any alternate new highways. I believe the provincial and federal governments said no because its an escape route for emergencies and fires. That's the kind of politicians we have. We don't owe them anything. Refugees status shouldn't be an automatic path to citizenship. They should have to wait 10 years to get it and be forced to live in a shithole like Winnipeg, Regina or Fort Mac. Yet they get to live in the posh neighborhoods of Vancouver while they suck the resources which should be allocated to Our Canadian born citizens. This is what I see in Vancouver in a day by day basis.
