The Mrs and I try to get away at least 2 times a year, if not more.
We love Las Vegas, and love road trips around BC.
We are not campers, and prefer real hotels or stay with friends.
We enjoyed our first UK adventure back in May!
Pretty much done all the driving and travel we need to do ... what with living and working in all corners of the USA (Ohio, Florida, Hollywood, Bellingham) ... Filippines (Manilla & Clark Base for 4 yrs) ... Canada ( Ontario, Alberta, ... and now West Coast BC) .. .Lived in Victoria in between.
After living in all those places, and Ontario Mom has passed on a cpl of years ago .. so don't ever need nor want to see an airport and especially the inside of a plane again .. Phew!! .. Love driving, detest flying.
Also travelled throughout Europe and spent long time in UK and Guernsey.
When in Ontario, lots of East and South Coast trips, long Nashville stays, Carolinas, New Orleans, many stops throughout the entire US
Not gamblers at all, nor show types, so have done Vegas only twice reluctantly for major annual Business Conventions when it was their year.
Could sound like travellers, but actually don't visiting places ... but, really liked living and working in some great places
Currently do short / medium trips a lot, BC & WA .. Been everywhere we ever wanted to be, so no inclination to go distance again.

Cool! We've been up to Prince George a dozen times, and into the Okanagan a few times. Whistler 3 times, Victoria 4 or 5 times, Fanny Bay too.
We don't go to a lot of places to be honest. We will go to the river for a week, but then the rest of the time any days off are normally tacked on to a weekend and we spend it on the coast doing a lot of fishing.
Not been far north in BC, but pretty much covered all the south of it driving to and from then living in towns for 2 - 3 months projects .. all over S BC .. Victoria, Vancouver, Kamloops. Fairmont, Castlegar, Qualicum, Fernie, Cranbrook, and everywhere in between.
S Alberta also .. Lived in Lethbridge and did projects in Calgary, Edmonton, Cardston, Medicine Hat, lower Slave area, etc .. Alberta was a while back
We did many projects all along Gulf Coast of Florida way back. Loved it there
Staying on projects in motor home always in different towns was wonderful at the time ... being part of meeting different people and seeing different ways of life. Not "vacation" folk, but loved to live in many places for a few months. Content here now except for short runs.
I dont normally get to take vacations. I've only been to the beach 3 times. Amusement parks maybe 3 times. But I do make sure I go camping a time or two a year, and once a year I take a personal vacation and backpack up into the mountains solo.

We go camping in our rv two to four times per summer..

We've been to Disneyland in California..
My husband has relatives in the Netherlands we've visited..
We lived in Kazakhstan for one year and we took sides trips to Moscow and Saint Petersburg..
I would like to visit Jersualem..
Maybe some islands in Thailand, Philippines and the South Pacific too.
I take two vacations every winter. I've been to Mexico many times, Cuba, Florida too many times to count, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Bahamas, Panama and Costa Rica..
I've gone back to Korea several times and included trips to Japan. I've been to Thailand too.
I would like to go to Brazil and the Southern part of South America(Argentina, Uruguay and Chile).
Any where there's no one is a location I'd love to go, probably Antarctica would be a nice place.
Most of the time I travel one time per year on average, usually I just go back to Hong Kong for a few months for work and visiting, and sometimes fly to other near by places.

Hong Kong has been crowded for a long time..
What I don't like about Hong Kong is the speed at which the middle class is disappearing..
Housing prices have skyrocketed from already high price tags..
Wealthy mainlanders are driving it..
Something needs to be done or the middle class will be forced into poverty.

Unfortunately you couldn't be any more correct, currently fresh university grads in Hong Kong these day will never be able to pay off their mortgage for the rest of their entire lives just for a compact size 750sq ft apartment. The biggest problem is the HongKong government on how they exploit the system, selling property one at a time to the highest bidder and continue to push the property price upwards by holding 2/3 of the land for themselves and only letting 1/3 be used for urban development.

Yep, all the land they own are uninhabited, though most of them are mountains but can still be reconstructed and leveled for more urban development like in Singapore.

Sadly the problem is Hongkong's greedy government also has been taking advantage of the high property prices to make most of their profit, since income taxes only caps at 12% if the income earner has parents or family members to look after, b/c of the low tax system the government look towards selling property to make most of their money. But imo even without selling property I think the government can still remain it's status as one of the richest in the world. Considering they don't have to fund CCP's military or support any other geographical projects outside of HK thanks to their SAR status.
I've lived or worked on every continent except Antarctica. I've vacationed all over the globe.
My favorite place to be is my farm in Saskatchewan. But, the old lady and I get away some place warm every year. We're thinking about Roatan island Honduras after winter drilling season ends.

So you're saying the SAR government needs to make up for the shortfall in revenue by selling property to the highest bidder?

Yea, they mainly make money by selling new land, collecting property taxes, and keep driving up property cost, then they repurchase the old districts, rebuild them and resell them at a higher price, then people buy it and resell it at another higher price. Somehow this bubble just never pops.

Most were 1 or 2 day ventures, Washington state was the first time I flew. Never been out of the country, and lived here in this area all my life.

Incredible choice in dining options.
Many gamble, some don't. Free drinks while gambling!
Lots of shows and attractions.
Outlet shopping, high end fashions...
My advice: avoid the hot summer, can get into the mid 40's Celsius.

Living on a farm here in God's country(Saskatchewan), few places offer the things to do that I can do right here. I have rifles for goshers and badgers. I have an ATV. The old lady has a horse. We grow or raise most of our summer food. It's close to paradise.
But, it gets frickin cold here in the winter and we go to tropical locales every spring after the winter drilling season.

We don't really plan on going back to Vegas though.
We love Vegas! The sights; the sounds; the shows; the shopping; the food! We try to take in a show each trip now. And have enjoyed side tours too.
I can tell.
It's not what the old lady and I want from a holiday. Once you've seen the sights and sounds it gets old. For short trips, I'd rather go to Northern Saskatchewan in the summer camping. The food is just as good.
We are into warm sandy beaches.

We did the week long Alaskan cruise for our honeymoon;
Have done 4 of the short 3 night cruises between Vancouver and Los Angeles;
And this past May a 12 night British Isle cruise to Guernsey, Dublin, Belfast, Glasgow, Loch Ness, Edinburgh and France!

It's unconscionable that the government of Hong Kong would participate in a scheme that pushes so many people into poverty.
Yea it's pretty messed up, and kinda ironic that the greedy cash grabbing government is mainly responsible for letting all this happen.
In your opinion Zetsu, are most people in Hong Kong aware of this?
That's a good question tbh, I believe most realize it, though maybe not as familiar as my brother since he used to be a social worker in a non-profit Christian organization in Hong Kong.

Most of the time I travel one time per year on average, usually I just go back to Hong Kong for a few months for work and visiting, and sometimes fly to other near by places.

I sure do, as long as it's not too congest with people, along with a computer with internet access in the wilderness is a huge bonus, lol.

I will be living in a tropical paradise in six and a half years. I can hardly wait to get the heck out of here.

Sadly what you say is very true, the current government in Hong Kong is just another lap dog of the mainland Chinese government, but it's too late, nor could they prevent it from the beginning. It might not be wise for the locals to keep protesting against the mainland and both governments, considering there's many options for CCP to screw Hongkong over and over again and crush them like bugs when they're in the mood to do so.

Google Vegas nightly resort fee
A resort fee is a daily mandatory additional charge that the hotel separates out from the advertised price. Consumer advocates equate this to paying a second room rate.[4] The average resort fee costs $24.93 per day.[5][6]
A resort fee is collected separately from the advertised room rate. A guest may pay in advance with a credit card for a room online. There he is paying the advertised room rate and all necessary taxes. This guest may assume that is the final price of the hotel. When the guest arrives at a hotel with a resort fee, he will be forced to pay the additional resort fee for his entire stay at the front desk when he checks in.
Sometimes this concept as referred to as drip pricing.[7] One price is advertised out front to lure in a customer but when the customer goes to book there are then mandatory unavoidable fees, taxes and other add-ons that incrementally drip and increase the original advertised price.
The resort fee can be more than the advertised cost of the room.[1]
There is no limit to what the resort fee can be. Two hotels in Florida have resort fees of over $100 per day
Benefit to hotels[edit]
The major benefit to the hotels is the profit. Resort fees brought in $2.47 billion to the hotel industry in 2015.[15]
As trends in how consumers book hotels changed, hotels attempted to recoup losses from customers who did not book directly with the hotel. Online hotel search and booking tools like Expedia, Travelocity and Hotel Tonight took a percentage of a reservation and then passed the reservation on to the hotel.[16]
Expedia owns Hotels.com, Hotwire, Orbitz, Travelocity and Trivago.[17] Priceline owns Booking.com.[18] That means that most search tools that potential customers of US based hotels use one of these companies. All the companies do not have the resort fee included in the price listed when they are search by price.[19]
A hotel loses a certain percentage from every reservation made on one of the sites. Hotels that charge resort fees but are listed on these hotel search and booking sites list only their advertised rate and not their resort fee. That is because the hotel booking site takes a percentage of that advertised rate. When the hotel collects the resort fee at check in, separately from the rate purchased for online, the hotel collects 100% of that profit.

I have spent countless hours chatting with bartenders and staff there. They like me, and they have all been very accommodating with me. In fact, I'm known to most I meet there, as one of the nicest they've met, and I do NOT tip my way into ANYONE'S favourites books...

RV have always been one of my favorites, just makes camping so much better at a whole new level imo. I've been so obsessed with them I've even considered retiring in one when I was a in high school, living in an RV and parking next to hotspots with free wifi. ac_cool
You, me, my son and my aunt have also thought of this lol.
I dun wanna be called a bum living in a trailer, but sometimes you gotta admit it's lots of fun and really tempting. :001_tongue:
There are times as a business owner I envy that kind of simple lifestyle.
Indeed, despite how many working class folks think us business men as people that seldom have to worry about money, but a lot do not realized the sheer complexity and dedication it takes to become a founder of a business organization, it feels like running a race or fighting a war that can never end.
And most who try never succeed..
If they do succeed, they have taken ten years off of their lives with worry and lack of sleep.

I believe it..
There are so many ways the business can fail.
Sometimes people forget, that even owning a business like I do, the profit margins are slim. Very few small businesses have nice profit margins...
Obviously on a large scale, many businesses can and do work well (Wal Mart), but most small businesses are of low profit margins, unless in some highly technical field.

I was an employee at a small business..
I know how hard they work and how they barely make ends meet..
Which is why I oppose governments forcing them to pay higher minimum wages.
