Good for you. Wife is taking off tomorrow. We thawed a brisket and this morning I put the rub on it. Doing a whole brisket this time. We normally cut them in half. Going to start it early in the morning and slow cook it around 10-12 hours. We have friends coming over Saturday and will put out our typical brisket, potato salad and cowboy beans to chow down on. It is going to be good....I will take a few pics and post them.

Supposed to be 49 in the morning but with it being sunny we will get to at least 70 if not higher. Perfect for cooking low and slow outside. Have to start the pit around 6 in the morning and should be able to get the brisket on by 6:15 or so. Going to try to find some green pecan wood in the morning at a wood place close by. Nothing quite like green wood to get a good smoke flavor. Good chance it will be a Bloody Mary morning......

Yes, we too have a spareboard. They cover any uncovered work. They choose their days off 4 times a year. They can go in and pick their next days work up until 3pm, or just be slotted in in seniority order by the depot staff.



One of the perks of spareboard is that they get first crack at overtime.

I had to drive a bus once, only a matter of 500 metres or so. It was cool. Amazingly maneuverable and smooth to control.



I was a police officer and the bus was caught up in a protest or something and the driver was told to leave for his own safety. We had to move the bus to a safe place.



In the end it was much ado about nothing. But the bus was fun!!!

Though I've never had a bloody mary lol. I may of tried a sip LONG ago. Im not much of a beer fan though, especially in the colder months. I like a cold cider beer in the summer. Mostly I like sippin my shine lol.

Gotta like tomato juice if you are going to drink a bloody mary. We use Zing Zang as the mixer. It has all the spices needed but I add extra Worcester, lime, black pepper and Tabasco. Olives and celery as garnish and you are on the way. I like that mixer enough that when we are out of vodka I will drink a virgin mary.....

I'd try it! Lol, I havent had mater juice in a long time, may like it now, but with the ingredients you mentioned I would prolly like it more lol.

We have three spareboards; one for yard assignments, one for road trips and a third one that is a combination of the two.



Employees on a spareboard receive a guaranteed bi-weekly salary whether they work or not. But, they must be available on two hours notice. They can book 24 hours rest after trips or 8 hours after yard switching assignments. There's rarely overtime available for hourly switching jobs and road trips pay by the mile and length of the consist.



I am so glad I am in a road pool now and I know when I am working within a few hours.

Conventional/big bus has just one spareboard. You choose your 2 days off each week/5 sheets per year.



Each day, Prior to 3pm the day before, you can either choose/sign a shift, or be assigned a shift based on your seniority.



 If you let the depot assign you a shift: The most senior driver gets the earliest finish time, and they go thru the list with the newest/most junior driver working the latest finish time.



 If a driver more senior to you chooses to sign/work a later finish time, that bumps you up to the next latest finish time.



We have shifts that finish as early as 10:50am; and a wide variety of finish times thru out the clock to as late as 5:30am the next morning.



On occasion, there are more drivers than work, so they might end up with just a part shift/tripper, or even be able to pass without actually driving.



Drivers working afternoon shifts can  "X" themselves for morning overtime. Drivers working early shifts can leave their name and number on afternoon overtime availability list.

Your spareboards are more predictable than our road trip spareboard. If someone is on the yard assignment board usually you know when you're working. For example, if you're on a 23:59 at Logan you would work midnight to 8 am Monday night/Tuesday morning for five shifts and be off for two days starting Saturday morning. Your shift for the following week could switch to afternoons at the end of your days off.

As far as shelf shine (legal kind), it's my favorite. I've had a few other brands, but Ole Smoky is the best that I've had.

Tomorrow brings  a seasonal Costco shop; lunch out with a family friend;  and decluttering ahead of the festive season.



Saddened to read that a guy I went to high school with passed away.

Have you got your tree and decorations up yet Superchecker?

No longer putting up a tree, not enough room.  Bought a little tree to put on the mantle instead.

Did you move to a smaller place?


No, our place has always been small. Putting up the tree always means moving furniture and squishing everything into the living room.



Plus, no family coming over this year.

You own a condo don't you Superchecker?



Is it only one bedroom, one bath?

1,000 sq foot, 2 bed, 2 bath. Been there 20 years now.
