I am buying as fast as I can, with what I'm allowed to transfer through my online limits, and the exchange limits also.
These low limit transactions are chump change... I wanted to dump $20,000 into BitCoin, but I am limited to $2,000 per day.
Almost there though!
Join me, on the rocket to the moon!
:2505pjr_th:
I take risks, I may just get rewarded.
With data plan now on my phone, I can time my buys, while at work also.
After midnight, in 20 minutes, I can transfer another $2,000 into my exchange account. Will do so...
May wait until until tomorrow to buy, as I hope I can catch a dip in price...
To the fucking moon!
I am also a traditional investor, but I am sick of stagnant returns, and stagnant dividends. A fucking joke, they have become.
A true investor seeks opportunity, and takes the risk. I just wish I would have taken the risk on earlier, but it's better late than never!

I'm in a mining pool and use my earnings to buy other cryptos. BTC is in a bubble and the current developers are the opposite of Satoshi.
Cameron Winklevoss, and Tyler Winklevoss are billionaires through their investment in Bitcoin alone.
Bitcoin may throttle far or it may burst. People who bought in early at pennies or dollars lucked out.
For the moment.
Although Bitcoin is already behind the ball tech wise and its current developers stole the project, kicked the others out, and pushed up fees to an obnoxious level.

They sure did..
We're reluctant to invest anything other than small amounts if we do at all.
I am not convinced crypto currency is good in the long term. Could be another Bre-X.
I want to thank Mel and DD for sharing their knowledge of crypto currencies with us..
I don't if my husband and I will ever take the plunge and invest, but it's good to know something, anything, about it.

I'll assume you're asking if one can buy into bitcoin through a regular stock market exchange? Sort of...
There is for bitcoin: Symbol GBTC> https://grayscale.co/bitcoin-investment-trust/ However, it's more likely better to just buy bitcoin directly through an online exchange.

People who bought it early for a few dollars, are now kicking themselves when they all sold when it hit $100, or $1,000...
I was in around the 200-400 mark to use for buying stuff overseas. Now I look at that stuff and want to laugh and cry.
THAT'S why you can never look back! How many people held? Not many!
Wasn't about holding back then. It was about the concept and ease of use for transferring.
Though I did hold some after the fact.
I'd rather mine it than buy it anyway. I get a coins worth every couple of years. Not bad for 500 bucks.
Velvet does bring an interesting point I'd like to touch on, even though she may be unclear about how this exactly works...
There is a reason I'm loading up now... You see, it has been attempted to bring crypto's into the "regular" stock market before, but regulators have shut down the attempts due to the unstable nature of this "currency."
THIS may be changing, and if it does, what will happen is you'll now open this up to a WIDE base of investors with much wealth, that may have only been used to the old-school trading style of calling up their broker, and making a buy or sell.
If this market has easier access, the value will only rise.

Maybe not for you... The Winklevoss twins did otherwise, and are now billionaires with their bitcoin holdings alone.

Absolutely could be.

Look at crypto more like a Vegas trip... Don't bring any cash down that you're not willing to lose, and all is well. Some can do very well, but the risk is certainly there.

Bitcoin went up almost 20% since I posted this last night...
And it can go down too. It has had major dumps in the past.
Always recovered... And a dump is when you buy more!

You should be hedged across the other performing cryptos.
I gambled that as BitCoin rises to new heights (since it is THE crypto), the holders of other crypto's will sell and reinvest everything into bitcoin.
My prediction seems to have come true.
Bitcoin is still in its infancy with investors (which I am), so it's the "go to" crypto right now.
Remember, worth is all anything someone is willing to pay. Diamonds used to be worthless, until DeBeers convinced people that they should buy them, creating their "Diamonds are Forever" ad campaign. They did this, as they had an entire fucking warehouse full of useless and worthless (at the time) diamonds.
Their ad campaign worked, and I'm sure it's still studied in Ad School...

I want out, big time. And only with smart decisions can I make this happen. And I WILL make this happen.
I have my work here, but eventually I must leave.

Only risk what you can afford to lose.
Diversify.
'To the Moon' should be ignored on crypto.
Store your private keys offline and keep paper backups.
Research each crypto and who was and is on the Dev team, also why they left and where they went.
Read about where each crypto wants to go, their goals, and accomplishments by quarter.
Keep an eye on the number of tokens minted, the cap, and how many are held in reserve. Also, if they are to be used as a crypto version of QE or burnt and when.
For starters.
Up another 10% since last night. If you plebs had listened to Ace, and bought a few days ago, your shit would've went up 40% by now.
But no! Enjoy being poor, you plebs! Enjoy a poverty lifestyle, you poors!
Do you guys understand how quickly it has risen?
It was worth about 2,5k a few months ago..
Its a bubble... You are gonna lose a tonne of money..
Its not a buyers market.
Bitcoin is hotter than ever. Is it time for the average investor to get some skin in the game?
Only if you've got cash to spare, says Mark Cuban, the billionaire investor and Shark Tank host.
"It's still very much a gamble," Cuban said of buying Bitcoin in a recent interview with MONEY. "It could go to $15,000 or zero and maybe both on the same day."
The price of Bitcoin recently shot past $13,000, and experts are split on whether the cryptocurrency is a good investment or not. Several stocks are soaring on the rising fever, and the infamous Winklevoss twins have been minted "Bitcoin billionaires" thanks to its meteoric rise in valuation over the last year. There could be at least 200 Bitcoin billionaires in the world already, and some people are even selling off their own assets and betting on Bitcoin as a longterm strategy for wealth accumulation.
But old-schoolers like Vanguard's Jack Bogle are saying you should avoid Bitcoin speculation "like the plague." Meanwhile, billionaire Thomas Peterffy of the brokerage Interactive Brokers recently warned that a Bitcoin futures market could lead to a "Lehman-brothers style collapse" of the whole financial system.
Cuban says he owns Bitcoin himself, along with another cryptocurrency, Ethereum—but with a net worth of roughly $3.3 billion, and assets like the Dallas Mavericks, he can afford to take some risks. Which is essentially his mantra right now on how regular people should approach Bitcoin.
If it's money you need to depend on and can't afford to lose, don't do it," Cuban said. "If you have money you can gamble with, then it's worth taking a shot."

BITCOIN MINING GUZZLES ENERGY—AND ITS CARBON FOOTPRINT JUST KEEPS GROWING
Today, each bitcoin transaction requires the same amount of energy used to power nine homes in the US for one day. And miners are constantly installing more and faster computers. Already, the aggregate computing power of the bitcoin network is nearly 100,000 times larger than the world's 500 fastest supercomputers combined.
The total energy use of this web of hardware is huge—an estimated 31 terawatt-hours per year. More than 150 individual countries in the world consume less energy annually. And that power-hungry network is currently increasing its energy use every day by about 450 gigawatt-hours, roughly the same amount of electricity the entire country of Haiti uses in a year.
https://www.wired.com/story/bitcoin-mining-guzzles-energyand-its-carbon-footprint-just-keeps-growing/
I do know that a lot of mining is now done in third world countries, where electricity is relatively cheap. It doesn't really pay anymore for many people to consider mining these days.
I just saw on the news, a small operation in suburban Vancouver that mines crypto currencies in their garage..
They had to rent a bigger place because they couldn't get enough electrical power.
As time goes on, bitcoin becomes harder and harder to "mine"... it was purposely made this way.

Mel was successful at being born. There's that.
The thing I've found about people like Mel and Twenty Dollars that feel the need to constantly crow about their achievements is how insecure they are.
I reckon they embellish. Mel probably got 100 dollars worth of BTC from a vending machine and Twenty Dollars spends his days surfing sewage canals in El Salvador.
Nah, I've got $14,000 in already. After midnight, will dump in another $2,000, which is my daily limit.

No doubt they do embellish. But, Fash is right successful folks don't need to tell people every two minutes they are successful. Mel is not as hard to read as that idiot TD.
And they both had healthy inheritances.

Definition of embellish
transitive verb

2 : to heighten the attractiveness of by adding decorative or fanciful details : enhance embellished our account of the trip

At the end of the day, its not even a collectors item.
Exactly. I personally think it's almost technically a Ponzi scheme.
However, the risk I take, will hopefully reward me!
Right now there's a dip in price. I'd buy more right now, but I have to wait until after midnight to add more funds, since I reached my daily funding limit!
Almost... It has no fraud company behind it..
No1 needs bitcoin..
It has no tangible value..
Some1 could whisper away its value.

Neither does fiat.
Fiat has even less tangible value when you consider the power to print more into circulation.
Anything is only worth what people are willing to pay for it, generally speaking.
My investment in bitcoin was a calculated risk. Sure, it could go either way, but most investments do.
However, you know what bitcoin won't do? Leave me with nothing, as my Petrowest shares did. Luckily I only had a couple grand invested in those shares, but I am left now with essentially nothing, and that will not change, as Petrowest went kaput.
Bitcoin cannot go kaput in the same way... It may lose value, but won't disappear.
I have achieved my goal. To own one coin...

This has come to me at great financial risk. However, the rewards could also outpace much of my other investments, and although I am not often a risk taker, I have made an exception in this case.

I am an investor. I seek opportunities that may not make me rich overnight, but I want somewhat solid returns at times, while a little risk involved is fine here and there.

That kwan made me $5,000 so far, in one week.
I don't sell, because I don't need the kwan. I don't need 5,000 kwan.
I buy kwan to hold, as investor, not as chump spender.
I play in dirt, doing job every single day, because I am investor.
If you were smart, you would have gotten a mining contract through a pooled farm instead. Now you're throwing away money at the price instead.
Nice day on the exchanges.
Everything is up, even XRP at 50c+ USD.
BTC is throttling between 16,500-17,000 USD.
I'd hate to be one of those new investors who went all in on BTC only, instead of spreading their exposure.
BTC has been officially been deemed an even bigger bubble than the Tulip Mania of the 17th century. It's passed that mark in relative comparison.

Funny you should mention this, because earlier today I did just that... I diversified my holdings from my original bit coin holding. Why I didn't do this earlier escapes me, since I'm a huge pusher of diversity in holdings, which I ensure with my 'regular' share holdings.
I would have liked to have timed some trades better, but obviously it's a bad idea for me to be piloting a fully loaded truck and trailer through town, while trying to make trades on my phone, so I did what I could when I had the chance.

Easier way to test the waters is to download a wallet for your phone and find a crypto ATM in your area to put a $20 into so you can play around with it and see how sending, receiving, and converting to other cryptos works.
Much safer than putting 2k in and mucking sonething up. There is no way to recover mucked up transactions.

No. An exchange is just a website you'll log into. Nothing to download.
And there is where you will buy and sell. The easiest way for me to fund account was through Interac Online, which is instant in most cases, but there are other ways to fund also. Identity checks were automatic for me using Interac Online, but other methods of funding will require you sending them copy of drivers licence, passport, etc. This is required by law, and all exchanges that I know of have some form of identity check to verify who they're dealing with.
Upon my second Interac transaction, my chequing account was locked, but a quick call to the bank fixed that. Security is everywhere.
Coinsquare claims to have never had a data breach, and it is Canadian, so perhaps easier to fund than a non-Canadian exchange.
At least with my account, I was limited to $300 funding transactions at a time (meaning you can do multiple $300 transactions in a row), $2,000 daily limit, and $10,000 weekly limit, but as mentioned, there are other ways to fund, should you prefer. Transfer fees vary depending on method of transfer, and these can be found on site.
Once funds are transferred (which is instantly with Interac Online), you can trade right away.
Just don't get tempted to do what I did today... With account, you can instantly trade crypto for other crypto, so I thought I could time the markets by moving some shit around.
I could not, and probably lost close to a couple grand, but at this point I'm still a couple grand ahead, so it is what it is. Plus with my work, I don't always have time to fuck around with trading on my phone.
Basically I finalized my holdings with the "Big Three:" BitCoin, LiteCoin, and Ethereum.

The Pason system we use here in the bush is slow. I might have to wait until I am home on December 23 for four days to give it a try. I will have to sign up for Interac Online. I pay for everything online with credit cards.
Ya, Interac online is probably the quickest, easiest way.

Downloading the entire blockchain of THREE cryptos in a short time was no easy feat.

Jaxx, Coinomi, Toast et cetera are software apps or interfaces only. Wouldn't call them 'online'. Exchanges are 'online'. You're entrusting your crypto and keys to an online service and there are great risks in that.
Dl'ng the BC's of cryptos serves no purpose to a crypto holder as cryptos are distributed ledgers and you're just burning data.
And by the way, the 1k gain you get today can and will be the 1-3k or more loss you get following. It's a volatile market. Best to keep your gains and losses to yourself short term wise or people will get tired of the P&D rhetoric and tune out.

Right now would be an interesting time to buy...
I hedged today's downturn of bitcoin, with LiteCoin and Ethereum holdings.
When Bit dumped, I sold Lite and Eth at a slight profit, and loaded up on bit.
Then when bit raised up a bit again, I loaded up on some bit cash.
This is how I avoided any real losses.
BitCoin is at an EXCELLENT price to buy right now.

Bitcoin Cash up 40 plus percent today. It's a far better bitcoin than core at the moment. People are realizing that it's pointless to use core at 20-90 dollar fees unless you buy large and hodl.
I washed my hands of Core the other day. Purged every last satoshi and said good riddance. It's turned into a real scam.
I use Bit Cash as a hedge against Coin...
And it has worked.
Transaction fees are moot, Dinky, since NOBODY buys pizza's with kwan anymore. It is purely an investment vehicle now.
Transaction fees do matter when you make micro trades daily.

Quote
While a "Santa Claus" rally appears to be underway in the stock market, cryptocurrencies just got a visit from the Grinch.
Bitcoin and virtually all of its major rivals saw their prices plunge Friday, as the cryptocurrency bubble appears to be bursting.
Bitcoin prices sank from around $16,000 on Thursday to below $10,900 early Friday morning, before recovering somewhat to $12,000. Since peaking near $20,000 at the start of the week, the world's largest cryptocurrency has lost around 40% of its value.
It's not alone.
Rival Ethereum saw the price of an ether token slip from as high as $793 on Thursday to as low as $491 Friday morning, before bouncing back to around $600. Even with the rebound, the digital currency was still down more than 20% for the day. The same goes for Litecoin (down 20%) and Ripple (down 18%).
What's Causing the Cryptocurrency Crash?
The bullish take: This could be profit-taking among really short-term investors who just recently bet on cryptocurrencies to turn a quick profit.
We see the exit of short-term speculators and we have seen it before," Michael Jackson, partner at venture capital firm Mangrove Capital Partners, told CNBC. "The vast majority of long-term holders of bitcoin are still way in the money and have shown no sign of cashing out."
While it's true that pullbacks can be a healthy thing for market rallies in general — as they drive out buyers with weak conviction, leaving a stronger base of "true believers" — that's not likely to happen here. In fact, you should expect even more volatility and sell-offs going forward.
Why? This week's plunge in most of the major digital currencies coincides with the start of widespread trading in bitcoin futures contracts on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, the world's largest futures exchange.
This means that for the first time, investors can bet on and against bitcoin prices, creating a potential downdraft for bitcoin. (Bitcoin futures on the CME were also down around 15% on Friday).
What's more, the growing popularity of cryptocurrencies in general is attracting a different type of investor.
In the early stages of the cryptocurrency boom, most investors were true believers who either intended to use bitcoin as currency (and therefore had a vested interest in its appreciation) or were buying the currencies for short-term gains (and were also rooting for rising prices).
Now, a wider audience is being drawn in, including institutional investors who stand to profit whether bitcoin prices go up or down.
Just this morning, Bloomberg reported that the investment bank Goldman Sachs plans to set up a cryptocurrency trading desk. Other major banks and hedge funds are likely to follow suit, creating an entirely new class of investors who don't care if prices fall as long as they're on the right side of the trade.
Meanwhile, as the nature of cryptocurrency demand changes, supply is growing. Bitcoin is no longer the only major player in this space. Ethereum, Ripple, Litecoin, IOTA, Cardano, Dash are all gaining traction. More supply thanks to this so-called Alt-coin boom means that even a slight drop off in demand could bring prices down going forward.

In the spring of 2013, price of bitcoin falls from $233 to $67—overnight! That's a 71% drop.
February 2014, the price fell from $867 to $439 (a 49% drop).
June 2017, the currency nudged $3,000—but then lurched back all of a sudden, falling 36% to $1,869 by mid-July.
Climbed close to $5,000 at the start of September 2017 before plunging 37% by September 15.
Coincheck: World's biggest ever digital currency 'theft'
//http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-42845505
One of Japan's largest digital currency exchanges says it has lost some $534m (£380m) worth of virtual assets in a hacking attack on its network.
Coincheck froze deposits and withdrawals for all crypto-currencies except Bitcoin as it assessed its losses in NEM, a lesser-known currency.
It may be unable to reimburse the funds lost on Friday, a representative told Japanese media.
I generally invest long-term, and this means to Hold for months, if not years...
Crypto is somewhat different than your 'standard' bank investments (which I hold also), in the fact that it's your job, and only your job to protect your crypto assets. There is no 'babysitter' here...
I pulled my crypto out of my exchange a month ago or whenever it was, and transferred it to my desktop wallet (which is also encrypted). Now, I own it. This can only be done by downloading the entire blockchain, and thus is really only suitable for desktops and laptops, since it's a HUGE amount of data to download, but it's the only way.
I also have two different physical 'backup' sources located in my condo, should, say, my hard drive fail, and I would have to download the chain again... You can ONLY back this shit up, after downloading the entire chain...
The way blockchain works, is not something for the average investor, unless you are willing to learn.

Nobody dl's the block. That's pointless.

I do.
How else are you going to get the back-up keys, without the block, Dinky?
Through a 'Third Party?'

And you invested a sizeable amount in cryptos!
My shit is in my own wallet. Encrypted, and backed up twice (Physically).
Is there something I did wrong?
If so, I would like to hear about it!
You confuse private keys with mnemonic wallet backups. There is no need to dl a block when you already have your private keys from transactions.
Just stop doing it. It's silly and a waste of data and time.
There are TWO fucking keys needed, and only with the chain can you get those...
I don't know why you would think otherwise...
YOU are supposed to be the smart one, Dinky.
You turn out to be not no smart...
Unless you download the chain, you are using a 'middle man' to handle your key(s)...
You should fucking KNOW this.
I KNOW this...

Um, yes, you have your public and private key, dummy.
Your wallet will reveal both. Nothing to do with the block though. The block only shows public. So when you dl gigs and gigs of the most recent block ledger, you are doing absolutely nothing for yourself.
I can't believe you put in 20k yet you don't understand the basics.
Unless you have the chain, you don't have the holdings...

Kiss that 20k goodbye. If you invest like you understand blockchain, it's toast.
Go back and argue with Mimi, Dinky... She's almost as dumb as you, and could go on all night!
I'm out. I have to work tomorrow.
Bye, poor boy.
