Title: is the IOC being unfair to Russia
Post by: Anonymous on December 06, 2017, 09:15:25 AM
Regarding doping among olympic athletes?

Is it political?

China has probably had as many athletes using performance enhancing drugs as Russia if not more..

The IOC wouldn't dare ban China though.

With only a cursory look at the decision, it does seem unfair..

They would never do that to China.

It's definitely political. As you say Fash, China has had the same if not more, but due to the economical position China holds in the world they probably won't.

But at the same time I'm sure Russia will probably start a massive campaign to have others kicked out because of the same thing. They will probably be successful. We shall see. Fair is fair...

Russia is hated because they reclaimed their version of Pearl Harbor naval base.

We are punishing ourselves with these sanctions and other kinds of petty crap.

You know the international unions sanctioned nazi-Germany too prior to WW2..

Hitler just wiped his ass on all those sanctions.

The stupid potheads at the IOC have just managed to lower the quality in the olympics.

The difference between the Russian doping and others is that there is clear evidence that the Russian doping was State managed.

There is no such evidence for Chinese athletes.

All things related to international sport in China is state managed..

International sport is an opportunity for Chinese hyper nationalism to show off.

I think that is well known and understood...

However, it has to be PROVED, and that is difficult.

As far as Russia goes, their chief physician actually came out and admitted he was working for and on behalf of the government and its sports minister.

No such revelation or admission has been forthcoming from China.

[A different category, but so Olympian]

Ex-Olympics doctor sentenced to 60 years in prison (//http)

A Michigan sports doctor is getting 60 years in prison for possession of child pornography charges, one of three criminal cases against a man who also admits assaulting female gymnasts.

A judge has sentenced Larry Nassar, 54, who worked at Michigan State University and USA Gymnastics, which trains Olympians, to 60 years in federal prison.

Investigators found more than 37,000 images of child porn on Nassar's electronic devices in 2016. He pleaded guilty in July to multiple child pornography charges.

"Underneath this veneer lurked a predator," Assistant U.S. Attorney Sean Lewis said.

Olympians Aly Raisman, McKayla Maroney and Gabby Douglas say they were victims when Nassar worked for USA Gymnastics and accompanied them at workouts or international events.

Nassar is a "monster" who "left scars on my psyche that may never go away," Maroney said in a letter to U.S. District Judge Janet Neff.

I'm just glad that for people to be a doctor these days they're required to go through a very serious psychology test unlike the old days.

That's true, though from what I heard doctors these days dun get to choose which medical department they get to specialize in, but the psychology examination makes the decision for them, not saying it's perfect, but still helps a lot compared to the past.

I'm not so sure...  I think a Doctor can still choose what specialty he goes into, should he decide to become a specialist.

I could be mistaken but iirc students can definitely choose which "macro" specialization to partake in like medicine, psychology, chiropractor, etc, but once they're in, other micro choices and some very sensitive or critical studies I believe are directed by a psychology test.
