It serviced us well...but it might have waited 6 months until after our UK tour...
Replacement is an LG 65" monster that weighs about half of the plasma.
However, when going through the usual shopping for TV experience ("Thats got a better picture". "No, that one over there.") I couldn't help notice an LG TV for 30 grand...and the salesman told us that they had sold one the previous day.
30 grand for a TV???
Well, the HD porn should shine on that beast.
LG's are crap, Sony or Samsung for me.
Samsung is what I like, good picture for the price. Sony you pay for the name, but the picture is good too lol.
And what tv is 30k? I know the 4k use to be high, but now they cheap too.
We have two tv's. One is a Panasonic and the other is an RCA. No complaints with either of them.
The one that just died is a Samsung. Gave us too much grief, really. Image quality was good, though.
Asked the tech who declared our TV dead what is the best replacement and all he said was "Anything but Sony". When I checked Sony out, they were around 20% dearer than anything else with no appreciable difference in performance and quality. Sony used to rule the TV world...not anymore.
The LG look a little clearer and had richer colours. The comparable Samsung was also very good, but $200 more...which tilted us to LG.
Also, according to our consumer organisation, Choice, LG is the stronger performer in terms of reliability and support.
I would have gone with either, but $200 is $200.

30K is $30,000!!!
For a TV!!!
We bought our Samsung LED almost 10 years ago and it's still going strong. I keep expecting it to die. No reason in particular.
Ours was a plasma..its time was up.

We had a forty two inch Panasonic plasma once..
It was reliable, but so is our LG we have now.

Well I know that lol, I mean what made it that high? Some new technology I hadnt heard of yet? Best I knew was 4k LED, with a curved screen, like 70" or something.

My 52" Samsung LCD, damn good picture, still going after 10 years as well (knocks on wood) and its gotten a LOT of use.

I don't like how they change viewing perception. Give me a flat window any day.
Most reviewers heap scorn on curved screens that actually LIMIT viewing rather than enhancing. Here, curved screens are in the bargain bin.
But, to me they dont curve enough. Even before a curved screen came out, I always wanted to see a 180 screen, for gaming. So that one could look left or right without actually having to turn your viewing/directional stick. If it worked the same with a movie... like extra viewing footage to left and right, I would think it could work out.

Kinda like 3D tvs, waste.
Ever see any of the Hobbit movies at the theater, in the double frame rate 3D!? I wish they made ALL 3D like that!
Square 1. Curve has a focal point. If you are exactly at that point, it's great.
Not at that point " actually LIMIT viewing rather than enhancing" is correct

We just got 50 Sony 4k for very competitive price - Never was a Sony cultist, but Love It

For a couple that is okay. If you have guests over watching a game, that won't do.
Actually not necessarily so - the sweet spot is not always reachable on a TV - one has to be on or inside the center of the curve
Also for christmas Santa brought me an LG 29" 21:9 UltraWide Curved LED Monitor (29" Diagonal) - shallow curve

Ratio is 21 X 9
I know. Y'all hate me now
These work as one is well inside the center point of the curve

Not too impressed by curved TVs I've seen so far, We really do like the flat Sony 50 4K we got though

I have a Sony 55" 4K UHD smart TV I bought at Visions. In a condo, I would not want any bigger.
Ya. Condos are often not large enough for the big ones along with other goodies at a practical level
We had to settle for 50" to keep my Throne Chair
No way it goes
4 K will be nice as more 4K material is produced - this Sony re-calculates image and tries to make it close to 4K - I must say clarity is superb

I would not get the biggest TV I can find if it means giving up my leather theater love seat with matching sofa and chair. My living room is not that big.
We live in a large house...plenty of space for larger screen.
Meh, I just buy the cheap ones. Always had good luck with them. Just bought a 4k 55" for $289.00 with free delivery. HD picture is great. I can get a 65" for $539.00 and a 75" for $1199.00. Like I said never had an issue with the cheaper ones and if I did I could replace it several times for the price of a "name brand" that still uses the same parts that mine do.
Odd you should say. When I checked the reviews, some cheap brands performed as well as expensive ones in lab testing. Tended to fall short in reliability and repair costs, but as you say, bin it and buy a new one.

Here's the 65" Samsung that I personally installed on my wall. I can assure you there's room for more, and might just go for more when this screen packs it in. Remember, it's almost impossible to have 'too much' screen. Trust me... Get as big as you can afford.
Sound system? Easily handled with Bluetooth speakers and subs...

As you know Zetsu, I've always favoured letting the market dictate prices. However, the SAR government is making the middle class extinct by allowing non residents to artificially drive up real estate prices.
Singapore's economy is just as free as HK's and they have restrictions on foreign ownership of the city state's limited housing.

The middle class is getting squeezed hard, while the poor at least gets some type of government housing. IMO Hong Kong is kind of over hyped if you ever plan to work and live there. Even as a son of a employer, I can't lie that the fact that Canada is a much better place to work and live in than places like HK. ac_unsure I mean HK is only nice to visit and travel to once in a while, but once ya start living there it's becomes kinda dull quick once ya get used to the city life and the experience of the local culture becomes a norm.

Fash if you don't mind me asking, does your wreck room have any thick blinds or curtains to block out the day light? In Brick's previous post prior to yours he had just mentioned the one of the biggest issue with projectors that even I never realized is they only display well in a very dim to dark environments. Or if you have a spot in the basement it would be a really good location.
Our wreck room has small windows that we can easily cover to keep out the bright sunlight.

Ahh ok, then it shouldn't be a problem as long as they aren't much bigger than most basement windows. Or if possible you can try searching for a projector that has a more powerful punch in lumens just in case if the room is still a bit too bright.

Sunlight won't be a problem, but spending over a thousand dollars right now will.
What?
With all the money you make from The Blue Cashew???

Lol, believe it or not, we have to be careful how we spend.
Despite your fine "honesty" reputation, it is hard to believe

High up in in livingroom is sooo crude / unclassy / CRASS Mel ... yukkk ... no wonder you can't get females to stay
Really... I install every electronic component, from start to finish, so don't you think I would've studied optimal mounting heights before drilling into my walls?
I did study. Rested back on my genuine leather couch, the height I mounted my TV at is considered optimal. Understand that it swivels also (and can slide too), bringing the screen directly in line with the viewer.
How you've managed to combine optimal TV mounting height, with women not liking me, is beyond my willingness to even care.
Can't tell the difference between 60" and 65' really...
