Title: There's an Olympic games on. Does anyone actually care?

Of course, games played in ice and snow aren't big in Australia for some strange reason...but for the most part you'd hardly know an Olympic games is in progress here.



No-one seems to be interested.



Likewise, the last summer Olympic games had very low interest levels.



Are the Olympics declining in status?

Like many institutions of the old world, the Olympics is losing relevance and importance to the average man.



Not before time, in my view. It isn't even about sport... it's about politics and individualism.

I like the ski jumping where they do backflips and stuff, also the snowboarding, maybe downhill racing , I might DVR some of that.  The rest I don't care much about.

I just watched about 5 minutes of some girls and women riding down a snow-covered slop on a skateboard with no wheels.

But then the miracle on ice...and even now, Australians that overcome the odds and triumph when all hope is gone call it "Doing a Bradbury".

We should all care. IT is nice to see that Russia is getting the humiliation of not being able to use their flag for the opening cerimonies. hey have to endure the humiliation of this reminder of how they use drugs to enhance their performance. IT also is wonderful that China isn't using any drugs now to enhance their performance.

Haven't watched a single second if it and the only thing I've heard about is the prevalence of flu, norovirus, dog meat soup, and a figure skater who started popping out of her top. Oh, and that mass amounts of people have tuned out this year.

I watched about 5 minutes of something called "women's half pipe" snowboarding.



The contestants snowboard down a semi circular track, whilst moving up each side to do flips and mid air turns. They get a score.



I've never seen a more absurd "sport". No-one outside the sport would have a clue how the score is applied. If you watch a race, the winner is the first past the finish line. But these "sports" that are judged are a load of bollocks, and not worth watching.

Hosting an Olympiad in an East Asian country during lunar new year is dumb, dumb, dumb. It's hard enough getting to your home town at this time of year without adding hordes of foreign tourists competing for train tickets and space on congested highways.

That amount is more than the $7 to 8 billion that was estimated when Pyeongchang was announced as host in 2011.

The summer Olympics in in 1988 made good use of new infrastructure in Seoul. But, that just isn't the case for Pyeongchang.

Any athletic excellence is a great feat though it is not the ultimate in human experiences. How wonderful to continue the tradition that originated in ancient Greece. I enjoy these Olympic games, summer and winter. It unites peoplekind. Heehee.

Most regular people can't afford such sports.  It's just rich people.  I haven't heard any talk or excitement from anyone about the Olympics...if I didn't see the news, I wouldn't even know it was going on.



There's the use of drugs every year and cheating....rich people competitiveness...isnt it great the death threats the Canadian speed skater got??  Yeah the Olympics are great.



Of course the cost will double to build and promote...putting the country in debt for years on end...the cost of a ticket to get I to a venue is ducking retarded...seriously...$500-$1000??  What random Joe and Jane will fly there to watch some idiots participate in stupid sports?   Yeah no thx....rather go somewhere tropical and fun.

No.  I don't watch any of it.  For summer Olympics I do like watching gymnastics, particularly the floor or beam routines...everything else is boring.



I don't watch any sports in general.    They are all boring.  I will go to a hockey game, but just for the beer and talking, I don't pay attention to the game.

I find this close-mindedness about playing hockey rather puzzling. So many Canadians play it. Don't tell me they are all rich. I"m sure they are not either, but it's a lot easier to play certain sports if children come from a family of means.
