TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- A car loaded with propane tanks ran through the main gate at Travis Air Force Base in northern California on Wednesday night. Military personnel ran up to the burning car that exploded in flame after breaching the security gates.
In video posted on an Air Force forum on Facebook, firefighters are seen attempting to put out the flames.
Law enforcement sources say the car carried propane tanks and the driver deliberately ignited the fire. He died inside the car, which drove off the road into a ditch. There are no reports of shots fired during the incident. The driver has been identified by law enforcement but not been named.
Since he ignited himself, investigators are treating this as an act of terrorism. The FBI has joined the Air Force in the investigation.

I just read a headline about it.
Latest - U.S. officials are looking at terrorism or some sort of suicide event as a possible motive, but the investigation is in its early stages.
It also seems to re-inforce the fact that most terrorists are dumb as donkeys.

A man who was killed in a fiery crash at Travis AFB's main gate has been identified as 51-year-old Hafiz Kazi.
Sources described Kazi as a "nomad" and a "vagabond," who lived in many places.
Authorities extracted a video from his cell phone and are analyzing it to try and see if it could help point to a motive. Sources wouldn't offer any details about the video.
The FBI is holding a press conference Friday at 3:30 p.m. and will be asking the public for help and any information about Kazi.

The FBI simply have not yet seen a provable motive because this person was low profile.
I've long ago learned that when similar such drastic acts (in this crashing the gate with a vehicle filled with propane tanks, gasoline, lighters etc. and this time against an Air Force Base) is performed by a group consisting of a mere 1 % of the US population, there is a common motive / motivation for each such act
Clearly it was to damage a base and or kill base personnel he hated, not to say "hi guys, I'm with you all the way"

That's a large part of the world.
It's not the US ... it's anything that would fight agains islamic extremists ... We had one of them wait for Canadian fliers and shoot at them as they left the base .. . I think they got away or were rescued by cops ... not big news as no one was killed ... but killing was the intent

They had planned to bomb a niteclub with over 1000 people in it using a Mercedes filled with nitrate mixture the night before .. but the trigger mechanism failed - so they rented an SUV and bought a dozen propane tanks .. drove overnight to Glasgow and still did their act (albeit lesser) for allah
Let's hope we don't have to start regulating propane tank purchases... Monitored and Registered every time you need a barbecue tank refilled!
