A STARTLED man has told how he found a bullet lying in a York city-centre street. He said he immediately called police, who came and took it away.
"I have no idea what it was doing there," he said.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said the bullet had been put into safe storage, and CID had confirmed it was not thought to be connected with any incident currently under investigation.
He asked anyone with any information about the bullet and how it came to be in Fossgate to phone the force on 0845 60 60 47.

Wonder if the York Police ever managed to solve this caper?
Looks like one could shut down the entire city of London by sprinkling a few .22 bullets around here and there... :952350:
After my step-father died, I thought I'd get rid of his old, old ammo. Big Zip Lock bag full. So, I bring it to the local RCMP detachment for disposal.
Of course they want my ID, blah blah blah. THEN she wanted to know how many of each caliber there was!
I said, "You gotta be kidding... You want me to dump the bag out, and count and sort it for you?" Then I said, "Maybe it would just be easier if I dumped it in the trash can over there?"
That fixed things right there... "No no, that's OK! We'll take it as it is!" she said. Yeah, I thought so!
