Title: The Mighty Casio F-91W!
Post by: Angry White Male on March 25, 2018, 09:50:37 PM
Half of 4/chan claims the mighty Casio F-91W (MSRP: $19.99) is the ultimate watch!  They may be right, the more that I think about it!

What are your thoughts on the mighty Casio F-91?  Would you rock this timepiece?  Do you rock this timepiece?

Speaking of watches, just grabbed my Seiko 5 Automatic out of the drawer, and discovered that the clasp no longer clips closed properly.  Don't know how the hell that happened!

To be honest though, I've never been a fan of steel-link watch bands.  Might see if I can find a nice leather band to replace it.

Man you dun know how much I love Casio watches, most of the models I find them affordable yet still have an original stylish design without having to copy off other luxury watches like most Chinese products.  IMO the Edifice line are my favorites out of all watches.

I wouldn't mind owning the F-91W either as a staples watch either, I really like the classic retro look to it and wouldn't be worried if I accidently bump it to the desk or any other hard surface.

IMO G-Shocks are pretty darn awesome watches, not to mention their durability and water proofing is no doubt legend.  I still remember when I was a kid I was obsessed with Gshocks but could just never afford one lol, even the cheapest one cost at least $40 USD, eventually my brother gave me his maybe b/c I just keep looking at it all the time.  As time passed and discovered the Edifice models it was like love at first sight, I felt like I've betrayed my loyalty to the Gshock line and as you know why aside from my mental disorder, this is why I'm still single, lol.

I had a Casio field watch which was sturdy but the battery eventually wore out and they don't stay watertight after replacement.

I only buy solar rechargeable watches now.

That really pisses me off...if you buy a 20 BAR watch, it should stay a 20 BAR watch.

It was 10 bar but I never had a problem in saltwater or diving 20 feet until the battery and seal were replaced. I was told upfront that they offered no guarantee for WR.

Took a few months but the seal did eventually pack up like they said it would in water, especially saltwater.

My daily watch is a solar charged Citizen. 11 years and still going strong no matter what gets thrown at it.

Not exactly state of the art, but still tells the time.

I gotta hand it to you Brick for understanding my taste in tea when it comes to watches  ac_cool , and have to admit it's pretty darn tempting, lol.  Can never understand why but I really like the old school, Casio or Seiko over the new smartwatches... I guess having to charge it every few days is really one of the major turn offs, not to mention most smartwatch these days they all seem to look the same.

I have an Apple watch, and charging it every day is a real nuisance. When travelling these days, you will likely have your iPhone, iPad and Apple watch. You're constantly charging. Painful.

That's why I like manual/self-winding watches.

If he can destroy a G Shock, he must be doing something incredibly vigorous.

I concur completely about the charging, before I thought about getting a smartwatch, but with so many devices and having to upgrade every few years is sometimes a hassle for me, I mean we have laptops, smartphones, tablets, smartwatches, camera equipment to choose from, now I'm seriously considering about ditching my tablet and refrain from buying smartwatches and mainly just stick to upgrading my notebook, smartphone to save a bit of money, and maybe buy a new dslr Nikon dx body every 5-6 years.  Lol I just wonder how long could I last doing this, it might not save more money than I hope, but I still guess it's ok if I want to get the best bang for my buck, or maybe just feel more efficient.  ac_unsure

I'm having the same feeling too, unless the watch was on a huge sale or all of a sudden I have a huge urge to exercise and keep track of my health and fitness records, I feel more content using those old school watches while my smartphone can offer and bridge the features of teh smartwatch and my tablet at the same time.

I use the D7100. The only cameras that may encourage me to upgrade are $4000 and up. The 7100 is one of the best, most reliable "pro-am" cameras ever made. Just a few years before it was released, pros would salivate at its specs. Of course, the pro cameras that were released were magnificent machines, but much of their technology trickled down to the 7100 at 1/4 the cost. And in a metal body. I shall never part with it.

I also have a Nikon 1 V2.

I doubt I'll ever own a $4000 camera, think it's possible to buy a entry level Leica for that price.  Like you've mentioned I believe the DX camera line is so far one of the sweet spots where the equilibrium of price meets performance/quality.  ac_cool   I dun want to get a full frame body due to the premium price, lack of zoom and I never do shooting in the dark, but even if I need to for indoors I can always use a external flash, and a tripod while outdoors for sceneries.  Man all this talking about cameras makes me want to dust off my D5300 and go out and shoot some nice pics, lol.  ac_drinks

Man all this talking about cameras makes me want to dust off my D5300 and go out and shoot some nice pics, lol.  ac_drinks

Do you still have your birds and fish past times Zetsu?

I sure do, life would be a lot harder without those little guys.

What kind of birds? Budgies, cockatiels, a larger kind of parrot? I have chickens and a few turkeys on my farm.

That's what most people tell me to get too, currently have a D5300 atm, I like the minature body but the auto focus just isnt' fast enough to snap pictures of my birds and fish, lol hence why a lot of my pics always turns out blurry.  Maybe it is really time to consider about getting the 7100.  BTW Brick which body do you currently use to take your pics?

I use the D7100. The only cameras that may encourage me to upgrade are $4000 and up. The 7100 is one of the best, most reliable "pro-am" cameras ever made. Just a few years before it was released, pros would salivate at its specs. Of course, the pro cameras that were released were magnificent machines, but much of their technology trickled down to the 7100 at 1/4 the cost. And in a metal body. I shall never part with it.

Ahh just a few of the smallest Button quail, one Bobwhite, a pair of California quail, a lonely diamond dove and some finches, though I have to house them in different cages due to there's too many of them.

Wish I have enough room for a super large aviary, it'll be so much easier to maintain with just one large cage but ended up with using rabbit and chinchilla cages for my birds.

Lol I keep hearing from Americans saying quails and pigeons taste pretty tender, lol better not show them those cooking video on the TV, my mom once in Hong Kong was watching some show with a chef cooking some chicken in a pot and my cockatiel saw it too and completely freaked out.

Ooo I always like chickens too, nice and big enough for me to hug unlike my little finches.  I always wanted to build a chicken coop for the quails but kinda worried about snakes and other predators in my neighbourhood.

This time I stayed in Toronto during the winter since my eldest brother and his familiy came over on Lunar new years, and my dad came over too, but will likely be going to HK again in the next 7-8 months, just around before December.

TBH I kinda like the winters of Canada, I understand it sometimes might be freezing to go out for a walk or a chore to shovel the snow off the driveway but I really enjoy the peace of mind and warmth staying indoors while it's snowing or freeze outside, and winter does has it's own beauty, espeically during Christmas day.
