i just finished reading " the great gatsby ", i found the death of gatsby seems criticising the phenomenon of our society where most phony, indifferent and cold-hearted people reveal their dark side right after one dead they used to be a friend of him/her. mr. wolfshiem (gatsby's busniess partner), mr.klipspringer( son of the bitch who rather joins into his friends' activity than attending to gatsby's funeral ), even jordan baker who feels honourred and jaunty of having a secret talk with gatsby, nobody comes to gatsby's funeral. daisy, the most important person of gatsby's life, doesn't even make a call or send a wisp of flowers for gatsby.
i don't mean to be so sentimental like this, but the narration of nick about how he feels after perceiving the snobby entities makes me weep at a transitory moment.

What would you like me to say? You have two threads about the book.
It had the usual exciting themes like greed, jealousy, decadence, treachery and so on. Gave us some insights into the pitfalls of chasing the American dream 90 years ago.

they make me feel uncomfortable. the air becomes intense around me, and i will involuntarily draw myself back from being too close to them.
through their eyes, i can see dedain and pride.
Culturally, there are some things I don't like about Korea like the extreme hierarchical work structure.

I mean it is extremely top-down. Ass kissing is despised in Canada, but in Korea it is expected of good employees. If you are a junior employee bowing to senior employees is an everyday thing. Some Koreans I have met say they don't like it either, but what can they do. It is part of their work culture

junior japanese are expected to show their respect to senior people whether the young groups are under the elder groups at the superior positions or not. however, japanese scarcely have a quality that makes u feel despised and disrespected

in fact, we don't call that region "China" during that era
remember..Korea, until recently, has been occupied by a foreign power for generations...so they feel isolated, "the hermit kingdom" in their thinking and circumspect in their actions and relations to other countries.....they are quite defensive and nationalistic about Korea's place in Asia and the world...justifiably so. Also think about the fact that many many of the products you enjoy today are not made in Japan or China, but Korea...from Samsung, LG, Hyundai, SSangyoung, Daiwoo, Posco, Lotte and dozens of other multinational companies...it is hard to list a set of companies from any other country in the world that have been so successful......in spite of the fact that the country was completely destitute in 1953....just 60 short years ago Korea was 2nd. last in world GDP. Today they are between 8th. and 10th....an amazing achievement...made possible by being ruled by a military dictatorship that knew what it wanted and pushed the country in the right direction....the first democratic government was elected in the 80's..yet if you go there and look, i dare you to find a more modern, open and peaceful country anywhere...my hats off to them. I have nothing but respect for their achievements...and did i mention the women are beautiful.
^^I would also add their mouthwatering cuisine to Korea's list of accomplishments.
Park Chung Hee's leadership was a testament to the superiority of benevolent dictatorship over present North American democracy. Korea's story is no less than a miracle in such a short period of time.
I am not a fan of blind nationalism though. Too many Chinese believe everything the CCP tells without question.

I neither like nor hate them. Since Mao's death they have had some obvious successes that have lifted hundreds of millions out of absolute poverty. However, they are an extension of the dynasties. Truth is, I am not all that crazy about any government anywhere. Government is a necessary evil at best.

Dude, as others have said, speak your mind. Your thoughts and opinions are as valid as anyone else's. With the exception of green homo, we are all adults and we can take it.

remember..Korea, until recently, has been occupied by a foreign power for generations...so they feel isolated, "the hermit kingdom" in their thinking and circumspect in their actions and relations to other countries.....they are quite defensive and nationalistic about Korea's place in Asia and the world...justifiably so.
Korean women are the bomb. Korean hotties were my first experience with Oriental chicks. My ex-wife was Korean, but how can a guy be faithful with so many gorgeous babes around you. They spoil you for white chicks. They renew a man's zest for life. Any guy stuck with some ball breaking thin-lipped white pig needs to dump the slob and get his butt over to Asia while he still has a spirit.
