Thank you for serving faithfully. Both of my parents were Cops, so I've probably experienced more than the average kid did living with them. I had witnessed the stress... the danger... How that job can actually render otherwise 'normal' people into something else.
The best advice they gave me? "Do NOT enter this field of work today." Too many things had changed, and not for the better.
You deal not only with the scum of the Earth, but also with people at their lowest. Vehicular accidents with bodies all over the road, etc. We know it.
Split-second decisions that could either make you a hero, or end your career forever. I know this.
You may not like me, but I give you credit for the career you have managed to fulfill until retirement.
Well Done to be able to handle that as well as you have.
