I wonder if the Australians ever do harbor any animosity for being sent to god damned barren desert island against their will...
No.
Let me tell you why.
1. The word "island". Meaning surrounded by water. Meaning hard to get to. Meaning no illegals.
2. The word "barren". If any military force wanted to invade, they would have to come from the north, and cross the desert to get to the major population centres. Its like one big, flat wall. We even have some nasty critters to help keep our country safe.
3. Even in winter, we can go outside, play sport, bbq and visit the zoo without wearing 17 layers, a ski mask, 3 toques and snow shoes. We never have to shovel our driveways, unfreeze our windscreen wipers, or sit impotently as our car slides uncontrolled into a bus. Ice is used in drinks, not for playing hockey on.
4. We have more beach coastline than any other country.
5. We do not look like emaciated snowmen when undressed. We generally display a nice, toasty brown glow on our skin.
Number 3 doesn't apply to parts of Victoria and Tasmania.

Pretty hard to find a home under 500k unless it's one of those model village shit holes which developers eat up pastures with.
There aren't really any intact traditional Aussie burbs left. The rice cookers, curry munchers, coconuts, salsa slingers, hummus hummers, bongo bashers, septic tanks, pommies, and Eastern European rubbish have all fanned out.

Why don't I see Lebanon. I understood there was many there ... or maybe it was just an isolated area where a lot of trouble happened a while back?

They are represented in Sydney. The map cuts out when you try to zoom in on Sydney for some reason, but if you look close before it cuts out you can mouse over Lebanese areas in Sydney...

It's the same here. Vancouver proper and Richmond were historically the go-to destination for Chinese, but lately they are spreading out big time. I live in an area that was historically pretty damn White (and still is), but lately they have decided that they now want to live in this area...

Not sure of name, but recall beach area scene and islamics, Lebanese I think, acting out because of bikinis etc
And yes, it was a big thing at the time with many people in the end
Lebs are massed in Sydney, with Vietnamese and others in Cabramatta. Sydney has more Chinese than Melbourne, but not much in it. Lots of Chinese in Brisbane as well.

Not quite, mang. Absinthe is an anisette, yes, but it has certain, ...err... botanical properties and will take you places most other cordials never dreamt of.
Also true with Chartreuse, Benedictine and (authentic homemede) Krupnik, but not to the same degree.
One doesn't drink absinthe for the taste, but for the altered state.
Had a period in my life where I usually had a Sambuca after dinner ... served lit and with 3 espresso beans which were nice to munch
The meaning of the word is elderberry ... a bit of ice or water technically brings out the ouzo effect, although I can't say that I noticed it much
Especially nice to have along with an espresso or a good dark roast on the side
One has to like the taste of licorice or it won't work out well

You didn't experience anything other than a alcohol high because the hallucinogenic properties attributed to Absinthe are myth. There is nothing in it that has psychedelic properties and there never was. Real absinthe that is being produced today uses the same recipe as the pre 1915 ban product. It's all hype.
Annise is nothing more than a mild stimulant and "thujone", (worm wood oil), which is attributed to the "altered state" in not a hellucingen either. Thujone is found only in trace amounts in absinthe. If ingested in large enough quantities, thujone acts as a neurotoxin and you will most likely die, but you will do it without seeing monsters or wild colors or even a Peter Max inspired landscape... :laugh3: The only toxic property absinthe has is it's high alcohol content.
Now if you want to really see something,...drink a shit load of jagermeister. Then you will see something you don't want to see...but it's usually ends up being the undigested contents of your stomach.

Either it wasn't the real thing, or you didn't drink quite enough of it.
EDIT I just saw Renee's post. While it's true that Renee knows almost everything that can be known about most topics she posts about, I've read the same stuff about thujone and authentic recipes that she's read. I find it unpersuasive.
All I'm gonna say about that is SOME OF that the people who sat around in Paris drinking real absinthe back in the day were quite knowledgeable about drugs. People like Poe and Coleridge were like the Hunter Thompson of those times. I trust them more than some fuckwits on the internetz who as far as I know never wrote a decent poem in their lives.
Also, to be honest, in 1965 or 6 I made friends with the sexton of a Buddhist temple in a village in the central highlands of South Vietnam, who was my primary weed and opium connection for a while. He and I DRANK some absinthe on a couple of occasions, in the time-honored sugar spoon and tap water manner, and it wasn't about the alcohol even though it was somewhere between 110 - 125 proof.
There are MONSTERS there, and I've seen them. But the chemistry wasn't for me to know, nor for most of us I guess.

Now it's tangerine season and I always bring them from the farm.
I have an orange tree in my backyard that gives oranges almost year round
The effects of eating an orange or a tangerine are great, at least for me.
Remove the peel and eat the whole thing. Tangerines are better IMO, but an orange is just the same. You might want to remove the white skin from the orange and eat only the yellow stuff

People with sensitive stomachs and bowels might get "too loose", but many might benefit from that.
I do it whenever I need, otherwise, guavas and bananas on a daily basis.
You are so lucky living in a warm climate....you can grow fruit year round.

But they are not FREEZING!!!

It's 8 outside. Put a jumper on, Bricktop. You big sook.
I'm wearing a jumper. But, unlike Bendigo, we generally live in a warm and gentle autumn.

I think the boy is falling apart.
You're about 55 years past being a boy.
Well, thank you for reminding us, Captain Obvious.
You, on the other hand, appeared to have avoided maturity altogether. How was that done? Illicit chemicals? Head injury? Amoebic meningitis?
I hope the weather is nice for the next two weekends..
We have outdoor plans.

I was starving by the time I could eat again. I've had that done. I remember eating blue jello for dinner the night before, and having to drink that awful crap they make you drink. It made me throw up... and my ass too lol.

The worst part is the prep. I slept though the procedure like a baby, didn't feel a thing. But the prep sucked big time.

No, here we're supposed to get them done at age 50. No bad results, nothing wrong. I get to do it again when I'm 60.

Last thing I remember was seeing a lil old lady near my backside as I was passing out lol. Wake up and Im being wheeled out in a wheelchair with a sheet in my hand of the pictures lol.
I was there for stomach issues in my mid 20s. Found out I have IBS and Diverticulosis (sp?)

My older son who is 20 had IBS issues last year, so he had a colonoscopy for that too. It came back fine, but of course he still has pain issues, He takes something called Linzess, it works well for him.

Linzess must be something new. Back when I had it done, the doc told me there was no medicine that worked for men, but was some for women that worked.
I can tell you all the things I avoid (for the most part) that helped me.
Stress ( :Ghelyon: helps)
Cow meat (they say red meat, but deer is fine)
Dairy (goes back to the cows, Im 99% certain its to do with the crap they give the cows)
Grease (mostly from cow)
Caffeine
Dark drinks (coffee, tea, cola, bourbon)
Eating too much at once
Too much sugar
Im sure there are other things, but those are the main ones as far as the IBS.
Also what helps, is laying on your back when in pain. My mom used a heat pad.

48 is hardly freezin', thats good sleepin' weather. Perfect camping sleeping weather at that! I've been camping up in the mountains and it gets down in the 30s. Gotta stay in the sleeping bag or by the fire then lol.
If outside, yeah I would need a light jacket for 48 lol.... and a tshirt.
There should be a dangerous weather alert. Happily today the temp will at least get to 20C and we can go outside briefly without freezing. I have to mow the lawn. How do you mow frozen grass?

Exactly.
You can walk in it, drive in it and even play sport in it. You don't need to shovel it because it goes away on its own.
Not like that stupid snow.
I love snow. My Jeep loves snow.
I think if I ever mover near Seattle, thats one thing I'll like, decent temperatures year round, and snow is a short drive away, same with the beach, and the rainforest.

The problem with moving to West coast places like Seattle or Vancouver is that you actually have to live there.

Im still up in the air about if I should move there or not. I've had a lot on my mind lately.

Who said anything about shoveling lol. I have boots that go up to my knees, and a Jeep, no need for no stinkin' shovel! 2 feet or less and Im golden. More than that, everything closes anyway. Hell stuff starts closing at half a foot or so, while Im riding around with a chain pulling people out ditches

I get snow around November 1 that lasts until mid to late April.

I found a brilliant use for snow last year, when in the alps.
Find some nice clean snow, and put it in whisky!!!

Yeah fuck that lol. Thats TOO cold too lol. I cant take the cold like I use to. I can tolerate it to a degree, but once that wind starts blowing Im done. I also like my sunlight, easier to stay warmer. My brother says it gets dark earlier there in Seattle in the winter, but more light in the summer.

Not at all. The correct way to drink Scotch is to add a tablespoon of water to "break the spirit" and release the flavours and aromas.
"Adding a drop of water to a young whiskey, on the other hand, can help to open up the smells and taste of the spirit."
Not all whiskies...and I don't know about your bourbons, but especially with a 12 year old blend...

He's right because it's further North than Virgina..
We get more sunlight than Seattle in the summer.
Sunlight?
You don't know about sunlight in the northern hemisphere. We get sunlight for weeks on end here in summer.
But now we freeze. 17C today.

Think he said it stays light until 10pm. Here at peak, its like 9-9:15, and starts rising around 5:30am. Think he said 6am there. But he said dark at 3pm in the winter, that sucks.

Here in the Summer, it varies on rain. Might be a pop up thunderstorm, or could stay dry for a month, or rain for a week or 2 straight. Varies all the time. Very hard to plan any kind of outdoor activities. When it rains here, it normally pours.

Northern parts of this country get 20 hours or better of sunlight in the summer.
