I've never watched this show...I saw a clip on Youtube. I don't think its shown in Australia. There is also a similar, if not identical format in the US.
They seem to be a flow on from the old Jerry Springer fiasco.
Take people from low socio-economic situations and humiliate them for the entertainment of the masses. It is nauseatingly exploitative, irresponsible and damaging to the victims...those ensnared in these "reality" torment circuses on the premise that they are there to "help" people.
Its not the producers, presenters or participants that are to be most reviled.
It is the morons that WATCH this crap and thus condone and encourage their manifestation.
Humiliating people on mass media platforms should be abolished. That includes the "Next Top Model" franchises, various competitions that pit people against each other by eliminating the inadequate on air for entertainment purposes, and perhaps talent quests that show utterly poor yet desperate contestants embarrassing themselves in front of millions of viewers.
Why do these freaks even agree to be on these trash shows? Surely they must know what they're getting into?
I can only assume they are offered pieces of silver to sell their dignity...as miniscule as it is.
That, plus all their expenses are paid. A train fare and night in a Hotel. To them its a brief interlude into Paradise before returning to their hovels after their 15 minutes is up.

I'll tell you how I feel about MOST ALL shows - They suck and I don't watch them .. . find most embarrassing and in fact saddening as examples of what humans think up and or watch
We have a small list of about 3 regulars we would ever watch plus every now and then find the odd Super Channel 4 - 5 parters that are pure genius .. usually Irish or UK or French done in english ... but none of them last long ... recently Kiri, Lock (fantastic thriller & Irish actors) Appletree Yard etc. .. mainly 4 parters only
And so many of these "fictional" series have a political bias in them. "Appletree Yard" was a disgraceful attack on males by a feminist writer.
Maybe I mixed it up, but I watched it all and did not see that in it - We found several short term ones around that time and I'm not clear on it ... do remember guy got jailed and she got off because they could not prove "she knew that he intended to kill". I agree that the ending was strange
Kiri and Lock were fantastic works of art ... the ongoing Berlin Station not too shabby but between seasons .... an ongoing Brit cop show Line of Duty was good, but between seasons now. All good shows were not regular network productions .. Mr Mercedes is an intense psychodrama thriller on now on SC I think
Oh, The Americans we have followed from the gitgo years ago .. one of few long term shows we watch

I knew someone who did that show circuit. It was very lucrative for the whole group of them. Have some drinks, fling shit at family on camera, get paid.

Many were in fact used by trainee actors, in the knowledge of the producers. Some of the far fetched ones were acted out by students.
It always was. All reality shows are not reality and are scripted.
And actors, yes. Most "characters are not who they pretend to be ... just look at them as lowest level sitcoms, scripted and characters played by actors
I don't think Geraldo getting his nose smashed in by a skinhead throwing a chair at him was scripted!
I think the older Springer type shows may not have been as scripted, but I think those days are done. Too many lawsuits, perhaps?

Taiwan has similar type of variety game shows too as we follow Japanese popular culture.
