..... oh, and let us not forget what happens to the "flag" itself AFTER the anthem...the "flag" that is NOT displayed properly on a staff...CANNOT physically be displayed properly and never HAS been... in compliance with US flag code.  Do you think there's a special room someplace where the 250 volunteers it takes to hold that thing up off the ground actually FOLD it according to code and place it reverently on a shelf?

Most people that I talked to, including non Americans don't like the knee takers because politics doesn't belong on the field in sports.  Many others don't agree the  message of the knee takers that America is a "waycist country" where every white cop wants to shoot a black person, that is a myth created by the media and other  SJWs.  And they don't feel like having it shoved in their face on Sundays when they want to relax and escape.  But these players are free to express that idea as long as they don't do it on the field (BTW the police aren't even allowed to express what they think of black lives matter, even when its off duty, as many have been fired for it).



the NFL has been around for a hundred years without being politicized. It seems to me it was working fine the way it was.  why do liberals want to politicize everything, especially things that should have nothing to do with politics?

I'm pretty old.  But that was before my time.  I would just make a blanket statement, politics don't belong in sports.   BTW how would the left like it if during the game a bunch of NFL players carried around signs saying "abortion is murder" or "Blue lives matter?"  they would probably make the same argument as I am now, no?

I think the NFL makes more than enough money, they don't need taxpayer money whatever form it takes.



BTW While excessive patriotism can be bad, a little of it makes a country have a sense of self worth.  I don't agree with the new left idea that ALL patriotism is bad and must destroyed.  Just like a person, a country needs a sense of self worth and confidence.  Otherwise they will open themselves up to takeover as Europe is now doing with Islam.

I agree, they sure don't need taxpayer money although that's how they build their damn stadiums and rent those ridiculous oversize flags.  At any rate, regardless what they SHOULD do they are in the Paid Patriotism business.  



Besides that, if a country gets its sense of self worth from sitting on its ass drinking beer and watching professional jocks play sports...be it American football or the kind played most everywhere else...that's some bullshit too IMO.  Why can't a country get its sense of self worth by finding ways its people can live well, work in respectable jobs, not shoot each other, and stop fucking up the planet?

A sense of patriotism exists because America is one of the best places to live on the planet.  Much of it because of the western ideals it was built on.  That is the reason people take pride in it and should (Just as Canadians, Europeans, Australians should take pride in their countries as well [As should the japanese although they are eastern]    



These ideals led to a place where most people DO live well, many DO work respectable jobs and MOST don't shoot each other (BTW its mostly democrat constituents who shoot each other)   Most of those people "sitting on their ass drinking beer and watching professional jocks play sports" worked hard all week and would like to escape somewhere outside the troubles of the word.  But instead comes the politicized black lives matter myth shoved in their faces.   They don't like it, why should they?  They wanted to watch a game, not get preached to by overpaid liberal asshats who wouldn't even have their job if it weren't for the country they're knocking.

It is vital in our society that we preserve the ever dwindling freedom to express our views, whether or not they are agreeable to the population at large. It is why, for example, I will stand by Scouse for him to speak plainly even though I don't always agree, and that I also lauded Romero for standing up for his beliefs, even though they contradicted my own most of the time.



If these guys wish to make a political stand, who cares? It is more important for us ALL to live in a society where they CAN, rather than get butt hurt because we disagree.



Stifling freedom of speech and expression damages a society far more than people expressing that freedom of speech will ever do. And how often does history provide examples of "patriotism" being a tool of repression of that right?



They have an issue. Let them raise that issue. Agree, or disagree. Then get on with the game.

As much as I dislike black lives matter rhetoric I would not want to silence it.  But these football players aren't being denied free speech, they can say whatever they want.  They just can't do it on the field during gametime.  



(Again I renew my question) if players went around carrying signs that say "black lives matter is full of crap" during the game would the left object?  



OTOH The real free speech, that really was taken away, was the way several cops were fired, suspended and/or reprimanded  for criticising black lives matter and the NFL kneetakers (most while not even on the job.)  Those people truly had their speech taken away, unlike NFL players, who can say whatever they want, just not on the field at gametime.

Here is an analogy with a question attached--



one day a McDonald's employee, before saying welcome to mcdonalds to a customer,  says "blue lives matter" and salutes.



The news covers it and soon a lot of McDonald's employees, not a majority, but many start doing the same.



But then the report comes-- in sales are down people are complaining, many are advocating a boycott.  What should McDonalds do?

In the US the poor have medicaid.  colleges offer scholarships, (I know full well because my son attends northwestern on several scholarships.  We wouldn't be able to afford it without them). As far as picking up? I don't know what Herr Bottiger is talking about.



BTW a lot of liberals in the US advocate for higher taxes and then try to get out of paying them as much as possible.  Several celebs and lib pols have been caught.  That seems a lot more like hypocrisy than patriotism

Canada and Australia willingly accept the cost of universal health care and education. Yet we don't fly flags and pat ourselves on the back for being born in either country.



The US has no universal health care as I understand it, and education fee debt is in the billions. I think I'd rather we show our loyalty to our nation by supporting the good things it does, rather than pretend.

Roseanne Barr was also doing this on her own time. the football kneelers do their stuff when they are on the field.  Nobody has ever said they couldn't tweet their black lives matter garbage on their own time.

Also it is uncertain that barr's behavior would have cost ABC any money, It is a known fact that the NFL kneelers cost the NFL a lot of money.

The NFL kneelers did their thing for a year.  Roseanne Barr was fired in one day.



Also lets not forget its not just Roseanne barr, she is just the most recent scalp.   Its also the absolutely Stalinist treatment the left gave Tommy Robinson just days ago putting him in a gulag for over a year for his speech transgression.  Certainly no football players anywhere are being locked away in prison for kneeling.

I don't know about Canada, but in the US most people are pretty ignorant about what "rights" to self-expression pro athletes actually have, as well as the legal nuances of what "free speech" actually is.  In the case of NFL kneelers, the league's position is that "we get to tell you how to put on the show" and there's some settled law around that...so the players' association doesn't seem to have a way around the new rule without going to court.  But on a parallel track, there is also a lot of settled law around a 1921 SCOTUS decision that has not yet been mixed into this dispute (and probably contradicts it,) so who knows what might come later.



Barr's comment was patently racist and she herself said in her apology "Please don't try to defend what I said."  I don't personally think it warranted her show getting canceled (which also affects the livelihoods of a couple of hundred other people) but ABC probably had other reasons which they won't disclose.  She's always been mentally unstable, and people don't like having a lot of assets tied up in mentally unstable people.
