I dunno, it seems like FBI agents used to have a bit more decorum than this.
An off-duty FBI agent allegedly accidentally shot a man in the leg early Saturday after the agent's gun fell from his holster on the dance floor of Mile High Spirits, according to a Denver police news release.

That is careless.
It wasn't the act of the gun hitting the floor that caused it to discharge (modern firearms are designed in such a way as to prevent discharging if dropped)... The agent seems to have pulled the trigger when he went to pick it up.
Agent was probably drunk, but even that is no excuse. To pull a trigger requires a fair bit of force...
My take? The agent is just an idiot that probably shouldn't be permitted to carry a duty weapon. Clearly he doesn't know how to handle one. Luckily nobody was killed...
I agree with your take. But we spend a lot of dough on FBI agents and supposedly train the shit out of them, because there is no such thing as an unarmed FBI agent, ON or OFF duty. We used to come a lot closer to getting what we paid for. This is pretty disgusting IMO.
Completely unacceptable from a trained agent, to not be able to pick up a gun without shooting it. A fucking five year old could handle a gun better...

He will. This, Broward and some other items .. seems the FBI has gone all to sht the few years and needs a makeover top to bottom.
From my point of view it appears to have been rotting at and near the top for a long while now .. and of course that ultimately results in downward rot

I read a female sherriff accidentally shot herself in the leg at a shooting range. Apparently she was the second law enforcement official to do that in as many weeks.
