It's how yer coffee water gets from the bottom to the top.  No mechanical energy required.  Completely thermal in operation.



Water gets heated and bubbles/boils, moving up the tube.  No moving parts other than a one way check valve that's usually incorporated to stop the water from falling back down.



Wonder how many people ever think of things like this?
