Several are saying that NBC says : The shooting suspect's name is JARROD RAMOS. 38 years old. He was identified by multiple law enforcement officials to NBC News.

He had sued the paper in 2012 for defamation. Case was tossed by a judge.

Didn't find confirmation on their website

Not disputing it, but I'll wait for more before accepting that

For what it's worth, CBS says

A Twitter account matching Ramos name with a location of Laurel, Maryland, includes years of tweets railing against Capital Gazette and includes details of a yearslong legal dispute with the company.

According to an unreported 2015 opinion filed in the Maryland Court of Special Appeals, Ramos pleaded guilty to criminal harassment in July 2011. Five days later, an article about the case appeared in The Capital, one of Capital Gazette's publications. The story detailed accusations by a woman who said Ramos harassed her online and off for months, calling her employer and trying to get her fired. The woman eventually went to the police and Ramos pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of harassment in 2011.

The Twitter account that matches Ramos' name began tweeting about Capital Gazette several months after the conviction.

In July 2012, Ramos filed suit against Capital Gazette for defamation, according to the 2015 court filing. The complaint was just four paragraphs long, but Ramos filed a longer 22-page claim several months later.

In 2012, a judge dismissed the lawsuit on the basis that "there is absolutely not one piece of evidence, or an assertion by you that the statement [in the article] was false."

He carried no identification and had damaged his finger tips in an apparent effort to thwart identification by law enforcement, sources said.

Authorities resorted to using facial recognition software and comparing his face to databases of passports and driver's license photos.

The girl he was harassing told police he was the type to be a mass shooter a number of years ago, and Newspaper management notified police around 2013 that he was a danger and they looked into obtaining a restraining order for him on the premises.

The red flags were there.

yeah right.  The media are working 24/7 to raise the hate level to 11 on Trump and creating an atmosphere designed to provoke violence against him, and the people associated with him, but somehow the media are the victims?  Oh please :oeudC:

Leftists often use projection to justify their actions.  This is a prime example.

I myself am a little apprehensive about how conservatives who control the Oval Office, House, Senate, and soon to be the Supreme Court might act and I've never thought highly of our modern versions of Democracy because they've lost many of the limitations meant to prevent mob rule.

But to be a fly on the wall at this moment is an eye opener! I knew progressives and socialists (arguably very similar in nature) were do as I say, not as I do types, but this just takes the cake. What they're advocating is at odds with the traditions and sentiments of free will, of representative government, of decency and respect for differing views, values, and manner of living.

They're having none of it. The deplorable's in flyover states and even along the coasts are considered ignorant to them. They know better than everyone else. Despite the vote for Trump, and majorities in both houses.

None of that matters.

It's sickening yet riveting.

Those are of course the facts and the obvious logical conclusion based on the facts.  While the media, who are supposed to be objective and concerned with facts, completely disregarded them to jump to a conclusion completely unsupported by the known evidence.  OTOH when James Hodgkinson, Bernie Sanders volunteer, with a hit list in his pocket, shot up a baseball field full of Republicans the media tried to deny all they could it had anything to do with hating trump and republicans.

It just goes to show the media have blatantly chosen up sides and they care nothing about what journalists are supposed to care about.  They have =decided that good journalism doesn't matter; that they are just a wing of the democrat party and liberal activists.   The goal of which is to destroy Trump any way they can, even if it means blatant lying and making things up.

I know a couple libertarians via the web, and under normal circumstances they would be of the mindset "we don't have a dog in this fight, a plague on both your houses" but now they have taken up sides.  the left is so angry about the results of the election they are threatening to destroy things that libertarians cherish as well.  Whereas non leftists and conservatives are not.

the left in the US has become extreme and violent and they are running roughshod over values necessary for a representative democracy, free speech chief among them.  Maybe in a parallel universe somewhere the right is doing it.  BUT HERE its the left.  Long gone are the old school liberals (in some ways I count myself as one of them) who said they value free speech and a free exchange of ideas and may the best group win.  Now they have gone full bore totalitarian.  There is almost no effort put into truthful persuasion, the attitude is Do it their way or they will smear you, ruin you, take away your job, threaten your family, your workers, maybe even kill you. they are trying to rule by angry mob behavior, silencing people, intimidation and bullying instead of making legitimate arguments.

Hillary Clinton was absolutely right when she said "anyone not respectng the results of an election is a threat to democracy" she just didn't know she was talking about herself and her people.

Reuters editor apologizes, could be disciplined after blaming Capital Gazette shooting on Trump (//http)

A top editor at Reuters apologized on Thursday night after blaming President Trump for the deadly Capital Gazette shooting in a now-deleted tweet that was sent during a "state of emotional distress," but he might still be disciplined by the international news service.

Reuters Breakingviews : Editor Rob Cox admitted that he "responded emotionally and inappropriately" after being called out for jumping to conclusions prior to the facts emerging. Police said the suspected gunman, eventually identified as Jarrod W. Ramos, targeted the newspaper after a lengthy feud regarding a 2012 defamation lawsuit.

"This is what happens when @realDonaldTrump calls journalists the enemy of the people. Blood is on your hands, Mr. President. Save your thoughts and prayers for your empty soul," Cox wrote in the deleted tweet, according to TheWrap.

Cox apologized in a series of four tweets once it became clear that Ramos' motive predated Trump entering the world of politics.

that's good that Reuters did that.  Apparently there is still someone out there who cares about real journalism.  Unfortunately in most media outlets that number is very few, if any, and rapidly shrinking.

--

BTW speaking of Hillary, here's what she said regarding Trump haters and their disgusting behavior.

HILLARY REFUSES TO CONDEMN THE LEFT BECOMING 'UNCIVIL' — CALLS FOR 'STRENGTH' TO RESIST TRUMP

http://dailycaller.com/2018/06/29/hillary-uncivil-trump-strength

QuoteFailed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton rejected calls of civility in a recent interview, calling for "strength and resolve" to resist President Trump.

The Guardian reports that when asked about some on the left becoming "uncivil" recently, she responded:

"'Oh, give me a break,' she erupts, eyes widening into indignation. 'Give me a break! What is more uncivil and cruel than taking children away? It should be met with resolve and strength. And if some of that comes across as a little uncivil, well, children's lives are at stake; their futures are at stake. That is that ridiculous concept of bothsideism.'"

Clinton also mocked people who call for civility in political discourse, imitating, "Well, you know, somebody made an insulting, profane remark about President Trump, and he separated 2,300 children from their families, that's both sides, and we should stop being uncivil — oh, and, by the way, he should stop separating children."

(Even though obama separated some families as well, and thousands of Americans are separated from their children when they are convicted of crimes in the US )

BTW Trump issued an EO to keep families united at the border, but have the Trump haters stopped being uncivil at all?  Hell no.

Woman who says Capital Gazette shooting suspect harassed her warned police he would be 'next mass shooter' (//http)

Jayne Miller, a reporter with Baltimore's WBAL-TV, said Thursday she spoke to a woman who said Ramos stalked, harassed and sued her years before the Capital Gazette murder spree. She said Ramos became "fixated" on her to the point where she became frightened enough to move out of state.

"He's a f---ing nut job," the woman said, according to Miller. The unidentified woman told Miller she had warned a former police official years ago that Ramos "will be your next mass shooter."

Police held a final press conference on the shooting on Friday and revealed the Capital Gazette met with lawyers and police in 2013 to discuss if they should press charges against Ramos, who had posted threats on social media aimed at the paper. However, Anne Arundel County Chief Timothy Altomare said the newspaper ultimately declined to pursue charges over concerns it would "exacerbate an already flammable situation."

Quote from: "Wazzzup"that's good that Reuters did that.  Apparently there is still someone out there who cares about real journalism.  Unfortunately in most media outlets that number is very few, if any, and rapidly shrinking.

Problem is that the damage is already done and the drama they had a hand in creating will produce more of the same except with direct relation to the commentary.

Apology irrelevant. Justified but still worthless. Like crocodile tears.

Mass shooters don't just desire to hurt individuals. They pick scenarios like gun free zones to damage society at large. Killing is easy. Killing strategically to cause social upheaval is a grander thing in the mind of the messed up.

This is all lose lose for everyone unless partisans all develop a stiff upper lip and go on with business despite whatever a lone nut decides to do. And we as societies need to get over our paranoia about self defence. It's necessary and always has been in civilized cultures.

The best advice I can give to anyone in life, is try not to make enemies.  Real enemies.

I do my best to not piss people off, and attempt to get along with everyone, at least at a very basic level, which is the most you can hope for with some people.

Look at it this way...  When a shooter busts in and selects certain targets, I would not be a target.  I get along well enough with people to know that.

However, if it was a total random shoot?  Duck for cover!

Doesn't work like that. It's about targeted persons then numbers then suicide. In a lot of cases, there are no targeted persons. Just a numbers drive. Like a video game.

I figured I'd just let you all run with this for a couple of days.  As I expected, it took less than 2 pages for the BC consensus to come out as "the media's fault."

And not even a mention of Yiannopolous's dog whistle earlier in the week or Trump's most recent dog whistle earlier in the month.

Nor anything about Ramos's subtle but deep fascination with alt-right rhetoric.

And it's too much to expect any references to the hidden history of US regime de-stabilizations in various Latin American countries throughout the decades, which often featured attacks on newspapers.  Hell, no one in the US is talking about that playbook either.

I completely forgot to mention, since it's not about the press but about ICE activities, that the president also dog-whistled for his base to go after Rep. Maxine Walters, resulting in death threats against a sitting member of congress ... about which the president maintains a studied silence, just as he waves off media questions about what he really thinks about the Capital paper murders.

But back to those murders, did anyone notice that the Fox organization (thru Hannity) blamed them on Maxine Walters within minutes of the story breaking?  You can't make this stuff up.

Here's what happened recently that Wazzzup shared with us.

7 Examples from the Last Two Weeks That Show How Dangerous and Insane (trumphaters) Have Become

https://pjmedia.com/trending/7-examples ... ve-become/

7. New York Mayoral Candidate Cynthia Nixon Calls for Us to Get Rid of ICE

6. Protesters Harass Republicans in Public

Stephen Miller was harassed in a restaurant by a protester. And the D.C. chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America screamed at Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen until she left a restaurant. Protesters also gathered outside of Nielsen's house screaming: "No justice, no sleep." Screaming protesters also harassed and spit on Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi at a Mr. Rogers documentary of all places. Liberals seemed to overwhelmingly approve of all this harassment.

5. Sarah Huckabee Sanders Gets Kicked out of The Red Hen (and then the owner of the red hen and her mob ran across the street and harassed Sanders family at another restaurant)

4. Maxine Waters Calls for Public Harassment of Trump Officials

3. Ice Agents Are Doxxed

2. Haley Hinds Is Falsely Accused

1. Peter Fonda Issues Threats Against Trump's Family

After making these comments, Fonda's Twitter account was not suspended. The movie he has coming out was not pulled. For the most part, he received praise from other liberals for his comments.

I never thought Peaches would condone the Trump haters calls for harassment and violence. Now that you have shown your true colours, any credibility you had is now history.

I don't know where to start here, but I'll start by saying that I've reached the point, as have a lot of Americans and other world citizens, where it no longer makes any sense to refrain from calling Trump what he is, or to speak civilly of him, or to put up with his base who are not reachable through reasoned logical dialogue.  I have avoided political posts here and political discussions of all sorts, although I do read a little.  I've managed over the past month or so to avoid offending too many people here, but frankly it's a tough go for short dough.

Sorry but the actions of the president's opponents are not the topic I'm replying to, and I don't think they've gone too far at all.  The president's opponents, which is to say over seventy percent of the country, are just starting to get rowdy with him.  His supporters have copied nothing, and it is they who have brought the violence and hate into the political arena with his encouragement.  These things don't need links.  Unless your only source of US news is Fox, you have a two year track record which has been carefully archived and annotated by those who deplore him, and the information isn't hard to find.

Quote from: "Wazzzup" ... I, at least, blamed media members for lying and saying Trump inspired the shooting when that obviously was completely unsupported by any known facts.

So you didn't blame media for the shooting but you blame them for "lying" when they describe his actual words and deeds?  Don't get me wrong, I can't and don't claim that he "inspired" the shooting but there's two years of his rhetoric that certainly helped set the stage.  Who was the last would-be despot who kept harping on the press being the Enemy of the People?  It's kind of a "tell."

I wanted Peaches to come back and I told the owner so. I want someone to counter my fiscally conservative rants. Plain and simple.

I"m sorry to have disappointed you in that respect, but as I said a month or two ago I'm probably not in your arena where economics is concerned and I consider myself a fiscal libertarian for the most part.

Quote from: "Peaches"I completely forgot to mention, since it's not about the press but about ICE activities, that the president also dog-whistled for his base to go after Rep.

I am appalled that you deflect and indirectly defend the Ernst Rohm tactics of Trump haters like Maxine Waters.

I aint surprised at all. Peaches is a progtard. Progtards hate Trump. And the end justifies the means.

Speaking of that extremist cunt, Mad Max Waters, she is facing censure.

https://sonsoflibertymedia.com/mad-maxine-waters-facing-censure-consequences-of-inciting-violence-against-trump-cabinet/

Actions have consequences, which is a truth Maxine "Mad Max" Waters is about to discover. After "Mad Max" appeared at a "Keep Families Together" rally on Saturday and called for harassment and violence against all Trump administration cabinet members if seen in public, several GOP lawmakers and a former White House press secretary have called for the House to censure "Mad Max." The censure measure was accompanied by a request calling for Waters to resign.

The Daily Caller reported:

Arizona Rep. Andy Biggs on Monday introduced a measure that would censure Rep. Maxine Waters and ask her to resign for inciting people to publicly confront Trump administration officials.

Biggs told The Hill that Waters' comments do "not become somebody who's in Congress" and warrant disciplinary action.

"So we just introduced it, we have some cosponsors, but what she did was to basically incite people to come after and attack members of the president's cabinet," the Arizona Republican told The Hill. "And also spread that out to more people."

Quote from: "peaches"Sorry but the actions of the president's opponents are not the topic I'm replying to, and I don't think they've gone too far at all.  The president's opponents, which is to say over seventy percent of the country, are just starting to get rowdy with him.
Its not over seventy percent of the country, Rasmussen has Trumps approval in the 45% to 50% range which is higher than Obama had at this point in his presidency.

Do you really think Assassination threats from celebrities, numerous beatings, shooting up baseball fields, riots, threatening people's children, calls to harass people so they can't go anywhere,  haven't gone too far?  wow

Quote from: "peaches"His supporters have copied nothing, and it is they who have brought the violence and hate into the political arena with his encouragement.
That's not correct at all based on the facts.  there may have been a small handful of trump people (if even that many) who did violent things, but the overwhelming amount of threats and violence has come from the left, and not just from lone kooks, but celebrities, elected officials, liberal editorialists, college professors. I would have to fill up ten posts to cover it all. its stunning, I've never seen anything like it in my lifetime

Quote from: "peaches"So you didn't blame media for the shooting but you blame them for "lying" when they describe his actual words and deeds?
I blamed them for attributing the motive of the shooter to being influenced by what trump said, when there is no evidence whatsoever of that being the case. (BTW I don't agree with trump in calling the media the enemy of the people. OTOH they do deserve a great deal of criticism for being ridiculously biased and constantly making things up)

Quote from: "Peaches"Don't get me wrong, I can't and don't claim that he "inspired" the shooting but there's two years of his rhetoric that certainly helped set the stage.
Lets compare--multiple leftist celebrities and VIPS have advocated trump's assassination, --madonna, kathy griffin, snoop dogg, Sean Penn, Johnny Depp, Charlie Sheen, The entire NYC production of Julius Caesar in the park, Democratic state Sen. Maria Chappelle-Nadal,  Mickey Rourke (hitting trump with a baseball bat), Jim Carrey (beating trump with a golf club) Robert De Niro (Punching trump), not to mention threats against Trumps children and grandchildren (peter fonda among others)

Other than Milo (who should be shunned for it), no one on the trump side has called for the media to be harmed. So once again we see the left is far more irresponsible with their rhetoric than Trump and his supporters.

Quote from: "peaches"I think it's pretty funny when honkies try to lecture a 79 year old African American woman about the travails of not getting served in a restaurant operated by people who don't like you, as if she doesn't already have decades of experience.
Well then she ought to know how unfair that is, and not do it to others, even evil honkeys, LOL

BTW Soulbro is not a honkey, so maybe he's allowed to have an opinion, I'll get my progressive caste pyramid and check to see. LOL

Quote from: "peaches"Sorry but I don't need links to talk about my own opinion, and I don't have to link things that are widely known to be documented.  You like links, look them up yourownself.
widely known yes, but outside of what is TRULY widely known--This is not the way debate is supposed to work.  persons making claims need to provide evidence to back those claims, others are under no burden to find evidence to support someone else's claims.  Also while it is not a rule,  I agree with Christopher Hitchens that "claims made without evidence can be dismissed without evidence"

We (at least those of us who believe it possible to learn from history) learned from the events of the 1930s that in dealing with authoritarian types who incite their followers to violence, the politics of appeasement only lead to the death camps and the ovens.

As for the president's family, it is historically and presently a crime family that ought to be prosecuted under the RICO statute.  Those of us who care about America didn't pay the Trumps a lot of mind when Cheeto was selling blenders on reality TV, but now that he is lining his and their pockets from the public treasury, unchecked by a rogue congress, some of us have decided to come to the party.

EDIT to add:  moreover, it's a curious thing the way rightards are so concerned now about incivility from the left, following eight years of forbearance by Obama and his family in the still-unending barrage of racist hatred and threats they endured.

I believe that is slightly higher than Justine. Justine has raised taxes on over eighty per cent of Canadians, brought in job killing regulations that have sent eighty billion dollars of investment and 110, 000 thousand good paying jobs overseas, and thrown out the Charter.

authoritarian types who incite their followers to violence-- that's a perfect description of today's left in America (just read the list of celebs and democrat vips who have called for trumps assassination-madonna, kathy griffin, snoop dogg, Sean Penn, Johnny Depp, Charlie Sheen, The entire NYC production of Julius Caesar in the park, Democratic state Sen. Maria Chappelle-Nadal,  Mickey Rourke (hitting trump with a baseball bat), Jim Carrey (beating trump with a golf club) Robert De Niro (Punching trump).

What celeb or person on the mainstream right ever called for the assassination of a democrat president?  no one that I've ever heard of.

Quote from: "peaches" EDIT to add:  moreover, it's a curious thing the way rightards are so concerned now about incivility from the left, following eight years of forbearance by Obama and his family in the still-unending barrage of racist hatred and threats they endured.
Did conservative celebs call for Obama's assassination? no  Did the right riot when Obama was elected?  no,  Did packs of people opposed to Obama go around beating his supporters?  No.  Did anyone from the right shoot up a baseball field with democrats on it? No. Did any member of congress say that Obama's cabinet and other subordinates should be forced to never do anything in public? No.  Did anyone on the mainstream right say Obama's kids should be put in cages with pedophiles? no

but these are all the things the left has done with regard to Trump.

The question I have is-

does Peaches know that the left is behaving 10 to a 100 times worse in America, but doesn't want to admit it? or

does peaches actually believe that the American right is inciting people in huge numbers and the left is not?

Either way the facts and evidence couldn't be more contradictory to these beliefs.

They just did change their tune.  Maxine went out and said that trump's subordinates should have nowhere to go.  Then she had to stay in because she got some of her own medicine (although she is probably lying)  and the left is howling victim over it.

BOISE, Idaho -- A man who was recently asked to leave a Boise apartment complex is suspected of going on a stabbing rampage there that injured nine people, including six children, authorities said Sunday. Four of the victims have life-threatening injuries.

Timmy Kinner, 30, of Los Angeles, was charged with nine counts of aggravated battery and six counts of injury to a child, CBS affiliate KBOI-TV reports.

I'm not a mainstream person.  My political heroes include people such as Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Paine, Samuel Adams, Frederick Douglass, John Brown, Smedley Butler, and others.  I can only fart in the general direction of those posters who disapprove of my polity without having examined it or calmly discussed it with me.

"Extremism in defense of Liberty is no vice; moderation in pursuit of Justice is no virtue."

"God forbid we should be twenty years without such a rebellion."

"Power concedes nothing without a demand...it never has and it never will."

"If there is no struggle, there is no progress."

"The tree of Liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants."

Etc.
