Title: People over profit
Post by: Anonymous on July 22, 2018, 08:41:58 AM
After a 53 year run, Seattle's Pike Place Fish Market is sold to employees instead of highest bidder

How do you know they had better offers or any other serious offers. How do you know the employees weren't already stake holders in the market.

I am not trying to ruin a feel good headline here. Just injecting some reality into it.

It says it was sold to long time employees instead of highest bidder, but that could be and probably is very misleading. I like to see employees get first kick at the can and this could save the owner money. But, it is the Dailykos. It is highly editorialized and includes "what a rare and beautiful choice, to choose people over profit, especially in these days of stagnant wages and Trump's corporate-friendly tax cuts". Disingenuous leftist partisan prattle. ac_boring

Why are you so sensitive to KOS as a source yet immune to all the Breitbart shit that gets posted here?

It's a private sale, so speculation and editorializing is natural and should be expected.  Seattle doesn't have the equivalent of SFGATE where one might get more gossip.

The editorializing was totally expected from a group blog like Dailykos.

Yet, certain facts about the sale are not in dispute no matter who reports them.

And the fact that you have not replied to my reasonable question about Breitbart is noted.

I gotta agree with Jockey here, they didn't mentioned anything about the highest offer...

As Seoul pointed out the source is a group blog..

Take what you read with a grain of salt as it's meant to be.

That reads to me as a management buy-out. Hardly uncommon, and hardly "people over profit".

More reading might be helpful before you trot out your MBA sheepskin.  The Pike Place Market is a quite unusual and perhaps unique entity, and this particular fish market (among others that do business there) is probably too small to have much mid management.

Doink, the ownership and management of an American fishmarket means much more to you that it ever will to me.

You go right ahead and make of it what you will.

To me, it looks like a management buyout. If you wish to propose it as an glowing example of socialism over capitalism, go right ahead. I presume this new collective will, of course, be giving their produce away rather than generate satanic profits.

Nice dismount.  I'll give it a 6.2

Hey, I'm quite capable of withdrawing from a fight I have no stake in, let alone one that is a troll rather than any legitimate attempt at discourse.

Knock yourself out, corky.
