Why spend money on housing, food and clothing when you can spend it on taxes?
That's more than was spent on housing, food and clothing combined.
"Many Canadians will be surprised to learn that taxes—and not life's basic necessities, including housing—is the biggest household expense," said Charles Lammam, co-author of the Canadian Consumer Tax Index.
According to the study, the average Canadian family earned $85,883 in 2017 and paid $37,058 in total taxes.
The average amount spent on housing, food and clothing combined was $30,597.
"Taxes help fund important public services that Canadians rely on, but the issue is the amount of taxes governments take compared to what Canadians get in return," Lammam said.
"With 43% of their income going to taxes, Canadians might ask whether they're getting the best value for their tax dollars."
Do you think you're paying an appropriate amount of taxes for what you get in return?

Is it worth it?

Too much government stealing too much money to provide services they  CLAIM people want, rather than ACTUALLY what people want.
How many people want to spend money on the Arts. How much "scientific" research actually delivers a net benefit? How many university courses are a valid benefit to the whole of society? How many government departments do we really need...at both federal and state level?
How much do we feel we should give in foreign aid to countries like India and Pakistan...both armed with nuclear weapons developed whilst being subsidised by rich western countries?
They take and spend our money without consent and approval. This is the core problem with western governments...they believe they are entitled.

This is really nothing but 1st degree robbery, but then I might be a bit bias being born and coming from a city where people pay an average to only around 8% tax and caps at 15%.

Of course not..
My husband and I actually paid a lot more than that in taxes last year..
At the very most, nobody should be paying a nickel more than twenty five per cent for the services they receive or provide.

There shouldn't be any services or the least amount as humanly possible. Services are election tools to score the votes of the uneducated and weak willed long enough to get into office and kick the debt can down the road until the road runs out.

Public schools, roads, airports, hospitals, teachers, and medical professionals are necessary..
But, even they should not be exempt from the cutbacks the private sector has faced.

Thats insane! If almost half my income was taken in taxes, I would only make $13,000 a year. And thats not enough to live on at all, hell I barely make it as it is.
Time for a tea party! lol

Native Indians = One billion per year.
CBC News = One billion per year.
Refugee Costs = Hundreds of millions per year.
These are just a small example of huge costs that will only rise.

Necessary but privately funded. Not publicly.

I  don't mind paying a reasonable fee for essential services..
But, families paying more for taxes than food, shelter and clothing is amoral.

It's not gonna get any better.  It's just gonna get worse.

Where does the money go. Remember Attiwapiskat?  Lots of money spent with not much to show for it.
A lot of reserves in Canada are tax wastelands and should be shut down. Some have their shit together.

I had to look that one up...that's so isolated!
I agree with you.  They should be shut down.  I remember hearing how the government wanted to audit their books to see where the money is going but they refused.  I think we all know where the money is going.
I'm tired of the crying of the white man.  Yes, some horrible things were done in the past...and to many races....but ffs...get it together and move on!  Some of the smarter ones have left the rez and got a job.

You could give the Indians a trillion dollars, and build them all mansions...  In less than 10 years time, they'd de-construct the entire area into a fucking ghetto.
I don't know why we even keep trying with them.
