To make it relatively easy, here is a formula that is sometimes used to explain or predict bullet performance on game.
Energy (in foot pounds) x Sectional Density (taken from reloading manuals) x cross-sectional area of bullet (in square inches) = Killing Power Score. (Round off to one decimal place) the higher the number the better the chances of a clean kill.
E x SD x CS = KPS
Examples using numbers from my Hornady reloading manual 10th edition, Kindle..
270 Winchester (130 grain at 3150 fps) - 35.0 KPS
.30-06 Springfield (180 grain at 2700 fps) - 49.2 KPS
AND....
.45-70 Government (405 grain at 1330 fps) - 55.0 KPS
Unfortunately this is only a theoretical guide....by far the determining factor in bringing down any kind of game is bullet placement.
Now as for the Marlin guide gun...if it is a newer rifle, post 2009, I would seriously caution against buying it. It's a "remlin" (Marlin/Remington) and could have some serious quality control issues. Find yourself a used older model, you'll be happier.
I know this might be a lot for your tiny brain to absorb and it requires you to do some research and math

As far as potential quality issues, I went over it thoroughly with a magnifying glass before purchase, as I am familiar with some complaints about the newer Remlins, but can find no flaws on this particular gun as of yet, and I'm pretty fucking thorough and do expect everything to be damn near 100% right.
Now I just have to get a case and a shoulder strap.

This particular firearm actually serves quite a narrow purpose. It is really designed simply for one thing: Defense from large predators that live in our wilds.
It doesn't excel at much else, and wouldn't typically be bought for any other purpose.
It's a bush gun. Something you may take with you if you wanna get yer bush on. You wouldn't need something like this in Australia, as you don't have there what we have here.

The third most important factor is probably the physical and mental state of the game animal in question at the moment it is shot. The formula above takes into account NONE of those factors. But overall the numbers you come up with do tend to mirror (more often than not) real world performance under typical conditions at 100 to 200 yards.
Now as for the Marlin guide gun...if it is a newer rifle, post 2009, I would seriously caution against buying it. It's a "remlin" (Marlin/Remington) and could have some serious quality control issues. Find yourself a used older model, you'll be happier.

Will take it for a run at the range next week (weekends are a fucking zoo there), to ensure function and make sure sights are sighted. Will give the bore a quick clean before I go, and then do a full strip and clean afterwards.
Been meaning to add a decent lever-action to my arsenal, and this one brings back the feel of my stepfathers old Winchester 30-30 lever, which of course he ended up giving to his biological kid...

Very nice, lots of luck with it, use it in "good health". That means keep the foreign objects out of your ass...
Just a word of advice...you might want to consider removing the rear sight and installing a receiver mounted ghost ring, or apature sight. I recommend a Skinner express sight. You'll be impressed just how fast they come up and line up with your eye. They're ideal for a short range brush rifle like that.
BTW, is that cannon ported?....If not, a little snot like you better be holding on real tight when you touch off one of those big buffalo killers....

Firearm used was an older 12 gauge of mine at the time, with a fairly solid butt-plate, firing Magnum slugs.
This is actually a pretty brutal combo for recoil, and I've witnessed the results... A few well-bruised shoulders. My buddy at the time was a big guy... 6' 2", and like 230# (you would NOT want to fuck with him in a dark alley), surprisingly showed quite a bit of bruising and discomfort. I cannot say for sure his firing technique wasn't partly to blame either... He's not a gun guy.
Smaller, more toned guys like myself have no problem with the recoil. I believe that it's just easier for our shoulders to get pushed back during recoil, easier... We can more easily 'absorb' and 'move' with the recoil, without as much pain or bruising.

Only a good cop, with a good intent would say no to guns and wish to seek and end to this madness, why I know this is b/c in fact my brother is like Bricktop too and I fully know my brother very well, he wanted to join the Toronto Metro Police but got accepted into correctional services instead, and he too also hates guns and do not wish to carry one despite sometimes there are situations where it's needed he would still choose not to if he could. I'm not a hunter, but if I was I could name a dozen chamberings that are better suited for hunting than the .45-70.

However, you are wrong about the .45-70 destroying meat! Since it is a relatively slow projectile, surprisingly it doesn't ruin much more meat than other more popular hunting cartridges! However, that wouldn't really be an issue for a person packing one just for bush defense...
No doubt there are many more desirable cartridges available strictly for hunting. However, what the .45-70 does excel at is bush defense in North America, which is why the guns that shoot the .45-70 are quite often more compact, lever-action guns, as this combo is desirable for that purpose.
No doubt a hunter wanting a common and less expensive package would probably be better suited with a nice bolt-action in something like 30-06 or .308.

A .45-70 lever-action does excel at what it still does best... As a defensive bush gun cartridge useful in some US States, and Canada. It is not a top hunting choice anywhere, and neither is a lever action repeater for hunting for that matter!
However, the lever-action is a favourite action of the defense bush gun, since it allows quick follow-up shots from a relatively compact gun. Lever-actions excel at this, as they are generally smaller, lighter, and easier to pack around. And any gun can 'jam'... Using good quality proper ammo, in a quality maintained gun, there should be no jams.
Obviously the military won't adapt this round or particular gun for their needs, since their needs are of a different scope entirely. This round, and the lever-guns that chamber it have a relatively narrow scope of use in which they excel at.
Remember, I'm not a hunter, so I don't need a rifle that excels at hunting any specific game. Nonetheless, with the right loads, the .45-70 can easily take down any medium to large North American game with ease at closer range, should you need to hunt to eat. It won't destroy as much meat as you think it will in larger game, according to what I've read from people that actually do hunt with this cartridge.
And Odie, it's obvious one shouldn't use a .45-70 round to hunt small game, so that shouldn't even be an issue! Get a .22 for yer squirrel hunt! The rounds are cheap!

On the other hand, as an example, Stanley Kubrick made a movie called "A Clockwork Orange" that featured violence as a part of the human psyche that is difficult to eradicate.
American's also tend to portray violence as a romanticised part of its culture. "The Godfather", for example, implied that it was based on the reality of organised crime, in which the vile butchers that are part of that organisation come across almost as heroes.
I think Australia's most violent movies were the "Mad Max" trilogy, where the context was more science fiction that reality.

Its just supply and demand. America just happens to make more movies than anybody else, many of them are violent because violence sells tickets.
As far as inspiring violence in viewers. I can possibly see the point that in SOME people, seeing a violent movie may aid in making them want to commit violence. But the idea that only americans watching these movies are inspired to violence but other people watching the same moves are not, seems pretty far fetched to me.
Occasionally when you bash America you may have a point, but this is not one of those times.

Well again its the demographics of chicago. In white neighborhoods violent crime is very infrequent. Almost all of the shootings are in black and to a smaller extent Hispanic neighborhoods. Most of the murder in black areas is gangs fighting over turf or shooting each other for revenge. I don't think movies has much to do with it, maybe a very very small amount. Whites see these same moves and don't shoot each other. I needed to purchase some heavy hitting rounds.
I'm not a loader, and found HSM Bear Loads... Hard cast, and loaded up to pressures on the higher side of what Marlin 1895's are designed to handle... I will assume this is a Renee Approved load!
On the left is a standard jacketed lead 300 grain round. On the right is a 430 grain hard-cast lead alloy round. One is fine for deer, but I don't hunt...
Hard-cast round is loaded up close to maxi pressures... Is this Renee approved? I think so!

That's true I can't think of a time when a black kid or Hispanic kid shot up a school. It may have happened but its predominantly whites doing it.
I think the mass shootings is a different phenomenon than ordinary street crime. Availability of guns probably has something to do with . maybe a very slight bit of video games and movies. But I think the main factors are-- someone is mentally ill, usually suicidally depressed and furious at the world. So rather than quietly just commit suicide they want to take others out with them.. I think many like the Las vegas guy have a perverse desire to become famous. Then couple that with the copycat factor, the more they see stuff like this happening in the news the more they are inspired to do the same.

I spent some time today wandering around Cabela's in Habibsford, which was a pleasant enough experience apart from some obese gimp in an electric mobility scooter that decided to follow me around no matter where the fuck I went... I had to escape into the fishing section just to lose him. When I went back to the ammo isles, guess who came rolling up right on my ass? Pass on that. The "Call of Duty" Kindergarten Killer games are running out of steam. People are tired of trying to get some progress while playing against 12 year olds who spend entire days in Team Deathmatch. And its become very boring.
Trying to make some progress in "Dying Light". Its too hard in a dumb, non rational way. "Mafia 3" is woeful.
And I HATE any game that includes boss fights. That's just a cheap and lazy technique by developers to extend game hours.

I use to late at night back when I got off at 2-4am from delivering pizzas. Was nothing on tv, so I played online games. I played Wow for a year, but before that it was Dark Age of Camelot for 4 years, which was a damn good game. I had 2 characters maxed out to the limit on everything. The damage caster was Aforce Tareckonwith and the tank was Nottoday Nortomorrow, and his shield was practically a door lol.
