I am registered there, but I don't post that often.
I myself am an atheist. God knows how hard THAT can be.
Believing only isn't good enough,... you have to be Christ-like. That isn't so easy.
I believe in God and spirituality. I dont believe in the church tho.

After their abhorrant history, who does?
The church is the body of Christ, it's not something you believe in..
It's where believers fellowship.
great! Finally some believers here !!!
Thanks!!!
I believe in God, but I haven't been able to make it to church as often as I'd like, due to my work schedule...
I go to a lot of AA meetings... that's a great substitute for church...

If that's the way of it, I feel that the "holy leaders" have abused the body of Christ.
The Catholic church itself is an abomination.
Some church goers are cool people and actually want to help others...but those are hard to find.

I do believe in God.
I don't believe in us humans, though
We're too fucked up as a group
Some of us might make the cut, but it's all on a individual basis
And I also think that God makes things too hard sometimes, without giving a good explanation about it

I think the bible is a book that has to be read with a lot of caution
I do think that sensible, human spirituality with a good dose of philosophy and other things are better than the bible
I was raised catholic, but then started reading Kardecist Spiritism because they offered better answers
But then, it all became kind of a depressing clusterfuck of eternal boredom
I can't believe in something I haven't witnessed, experienced, or seen. Not to say that I refute the existence of a Creator. It's just that I haven't had the opportunity to have a one on one with he, she, or whatever.
I don't know what happens when we die. I have faith in that.

True that.
I believe that we are all born with a basic concept of right or wrong and our family and community help that along, or make it worse down the line.
But the idea that we subscribe to ancient fiction, around the fire storytelling and whatnot, eventually solidified into a gospel or societal mandates is daft.
Equally bizarre is how every religion suggests it knows the truth, bar Buddhism to some extent, yet have killed, maimed, robbed, and raped in their histories.
If there is an afterlife, I expect to be judged and also expect to not make the cut. I'm ok with that. I just don't see the point of fixating over the rewards or lack of for the unknown when I'd rather just be the best person I can because when such things happen, they seem naturally right.
Nobody knows what happens when we're ashes or dust. At best, people with near death experiences recall things relevant to their belief systems while alive.

Not sure.
However, atheism when taken to its logical extreme led to some very horrific results.
An extreme belief in social Darwinism led to catastrophes like world wars, mass slaughters by communist & fascist dictatorships & carnivorous capitalism in the last centuries. Hitler, Tojo, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot.
Seems When one doesn't believe in anything, they don't believe in human life either.
People have to be careful about taking anything to a logical extreme
Its not worth it.
There are limits to science.
It doesn't have an answer or a solution for everything.
I've heard this argument before from people who are unable to think clearly, that atheism = "not believing in anything." This is patently false. Atheism is the lack of belief in traditional conceptions of God.
Morality is not exclusively religious in nature. Often, quite the contrary is true: a greater number of abhorrent deeds have been committed in the name of religion or God than have ever been commited by secular agencies.
I find it telling, also, that those who would ask me if I believe in God are usually unable to provide me with a definition of "God" worth believing in. They fall back on the mythologies of their creed for an answer or on unquestioned dogmas for certainties but cannot ever convince me that belief in things unseen is an appropriate use of our natural faculties.
I'm an atheist. I do not believe in God.
I believe Joe is a nincompoop, though.

I've heard people make this argument many times..
So called religion was and is a product of the society at any given time..
Slavery was accepted by the church and secular society at one time and today same sex marriage is has near universal acceptance..
The church has an influence on society, but society has a bigger influence on the church.
Quote from: "Fashionista"

Hence my atheism.
Supernatural entities were posited at a time in our cultural development when natural phenomena were poorly understood.
I wouldn't have a problem, Fash, with what you like to call "so called religion" if it didn't interfere with our further cultural development. For instance, by not trying to control the content of academic textbooks or by not inflaming the passion of mindless zealots who then fly planes into buildings for the greater glory of a God we are forever exhorted to believe in.
Religion is dangerous.
God is dangerous.
No, I don't believe in God.

As am I.
Some people still claim 'spiritual' beliefs, but they are actually Agnostics.
Atheism is frowned upon by almost every religion in existence... I was once told that Muslims view Jews in higher regard than they do Atheists, so I KNOW I'm doing my job well!
I often don't discuss religion, as I try to respect the choices that others make. If their choices do NOT affect others, I have no fight with them. Religious threads being one of those subjects that will always end with, if left to run their course, just like this: "It DOESN'T exist. You are wrong! "He DOES exist, I am right!" "Show me proof he EXISTS!" "SHOW me proof he does NOT exist!"
And on and on and on...
The best belief system to encompass is the one where you try to be a good person, and then you won't need a 'backup plan' from ANY belief system you may have, to 'forgive your sins'...
That said, I see some local Christian Churches let out (I was baptised as Lutheran, but that means nothing to me), and I see some DAMN FINE ladies! I'm talking 'bout blonde/blue Whiteness, and some legs that the local Churches should CLEARLY tell them to cover up a little better with longer dresses... Short dresses give me impure thoughts.

We get the picture. Same routine every Sunday. No Saturday night date. Throw cold water on your face in the morning. Put dressing gown on. Parking / lurking directly across the street from church doors.
I'm guessin you know the exit time for each church in your area and make the rounds.
And don't feel obligated to provide more. We don't need to know the specifics of what you are doing in the mousetang
There's tons of Churches all around here. I've noticed these Churches are typically not very 'multicultural,' since whitey goes to white people church, and chinese go to chinese people church.
I should really go to church. There's a good chance I could meet a fine looking blonde. I'll just pretend to be a good Christian.

While atrocities & mass slaughter occurred throughout human history, the key difference between pre and post darwin thought was the totality which social darwinism took over to the extent that it coldly & completely dehumanized our world.
While religion wasnt perfect, at least it recognized the human attributes of 'inferior ' races. Early Europeans may have wiped out millions of Native Americans but at least there was still a belief from higher ups in the Church that aboriginal peoples were human, they had souls and they could be 'saved'. So while horrible things were done to them, at least they were not entirely wiped out.
And Christianity did play a major role in the abolition of slavery in the United States following the US Civil War.
However after the introduction of Darwin's theory of Natural Selection, it was used to completely dehumanize other races and wipe them out. After all, since there's no God & they are just animals, why not just wipe them all out? Don't even bother to save any or spare them since they are not gods children and they are subhuman. Ie, the European colonization of Africa & Hitler's extermination of Jews with the aim of killing them all. Or Communist Russia's view that it was OK to kill millions of their own people, or Mao's social darwinist influenced view as well as Pol Pot's in Cambodia that it was also acceptable to wipe out millions of their own nation.
Both fascism & communism were derived from social darwinism. Unbridled capitalism as weel.
Anyways heres a video clip on the origins of social darwinism and how Darwin himself was influenced by darker thoughts due to personal tragedies in his own life. Darwin lost a child or too & he thought it was an indicator how life wasnt fair & that it was Nature not God which determined the irder of things.
https://youtu.be/biRPAbxQ2Ag
But his own tragedies would become those of millions in the 20th century and in ours as well.
The Bible says, "the whole world is laying in the power of the wicked one"...John 12:31; 1 John 5:19
start from there!

I'm gonna put the stud back into bible study...
Joe,
As usual, you're talking right through your toupee.
The Church condoned and encouraged the subjugation and cultural genocide of "savage peoples" as well as the appropriation of their lands because it was politically expedient for it to do so. It's also for this reason the Vatican had no qualms in helping the Nazis rid the world of what it deemed "Christ-killers."
It took the ascendancy of a social-scientific mindset (from the mid-18th century onward) to bring to light the many fallacies entertained, and injustices perpetrated, by those of a religious bent. Belief in supernatural agencies and reliance upon quaint mythologies took a backseat to reason and observation. This allowed all human beings to be treated as such, contra the dictates of religious authorities.
Your brand of muddle-headed nincompoopery does a disservice to the dissemination of intelligence, reason, and knowledge.
Finally, your reliance on ad hominem arguments in support of your position is a total flame-out. You keep shooting yourself in the foot. If you want to attack Darwin's ideas, attack his ideas; the events in his personal life have no bearing whatsoever on the soundness or validity of his arguments.
As an aside: Darwin's thesis pertained to the survival and distribution of animal species. This whole "Social Darwinism" thing has nothing to do with Natural Selection and even less with Darwin. It's on a par with that other bugbear venerated by the ignorant, so-called "Cultural Marxism."
Get yourself straightened out, Joe. Either become a Roman Catholic, as you've been wanting to do for years now, or don't. Stop talking like a priest masquerading as an idiot.

Rebutting an article written by a columnist for an independent newspaper with alt-right hysterics penned by an anonymous Neo-Nazi living under Tucker Carlson's online roof is nowhere near "equally authoritative," Leo. Moses went up to the Mountain (of Bullshit), The Daily Caller, when his articles were "de-published" from The Spectator upon discovery of the author's ties to anti-semitic conspiracy theories and white supremacy groups.
It may be that you're not Joe, but that remains to be seen. I'll be convinced when you stop using Joe-like tactics in an argument.
And, should you care to rebut the actual points made in the article I linked to, rather than resort to ad hominems meant to conceal the fact that you have no solid ground to stand on, I'll join you in the debate. In the meantime, I'll make myself a cuppa and go read something interesting.

Dear boy...I have neither desire nor intent to rebut the ramblings of a "columnist" for a LEFTIST propaganda rag than I have to discuss post natal depression with Joe.
I care not a whit what "columnists" or "journalists" say, and I'm surprised that you do. They are scribes doing what they are paid to do; make money for the owners of their particular bullshit delivery system. Journalists opinions are worth less than the paper they are printed on, because unlike you and I who thrust and parry for the joy of a cerebral slugfest, journalists are in it for the money. They no longer report news; they try to BE the news.
If you rely on a "columnist" to form your beliefs, then it is a sad deterioration from the contentious controverter of days passed. Getting sedate in your dotage, old chap?
By all means, weild your sagacious sword through the auspices of objective and erudite academics, but bother me not with the subjective ruminations of prejudice and subversion.

Nah, Leo. Unbelievable as it may sound, I don't miss the good old days. I derived no pleasure from smashing you to a pulp.
Blurt, I never denied that the Church was guilty of abuses.
I think I acknowledged that in my previous post.
What I pointed out is how the use if scientific theories were also used to justify genocide, and in fact these so-called scientists were even worse than the worst religious zealots who came before them. Without any hindrance or guilt that there might be a God those in power went on this extermination ramapage the likes the world had never seen before. And it wasnt just humans, but our environment and other animal species too. Thats a large reason why not just the human world is a mess but the natural world these self annointed social scientists have destroyed as well.
As for yourself, social systems influenced by Darwin were devised in the last century to place members of LGBTQ community and wipe them out. Thats what Hitler did. Along with Jews and gypsies he forced many in your community to wear a triangle, only it was pink, where they were placed in concentration camps to be gassed or starved to death.

So you perhaps more than anyone here, should pay hommage and respect to those who fought & died in the previous world war to preserve your right merely to exist, ifya know what I mean Blurt. Blurt is a man in his 50's that is transitioning into a woman. Right now he still has his penis, but is currently growing his tits out by way of massive hormonal therapy.
While Blurt was always somewhat 'dramatic,' I have concluded that the hormonal therapy is wreaking havok on him as of late. I am not an expert on man-to-woman hormone treatment, so I do not know if this is just a temporary phase, or will be a more permanent personality adjustment.
That said, Blurt is OK. Should cut him some slack while he's transitioning.

To be honest, Blurt has probably brought me more joy than any other poster has, and I'll explain why:
Just picturing some husky dude with a bad wig, mean five o'clock shadow, cheap dress from the Forever 21 bargain rack, deep man voice, saggy hormone-induced tits... helping the homeless. You have to picture that... Now, I know if I were homeless, hopes shattered and living in despair, how could you NOT have your day somewhat brightened with such an interaction? Just make sure you get a competent surgeon! The last thing you want is a third-world 'Surgeon' from a third-world dump performing this procedure for a great price, only to find that you're now left with an infected, festering, dripping, oozing hole where the penis once was!

That settles it! I'm gonna transition along with Blurt and Herman... since it's all taxpayer funded, what have we got to lose?

You're just after her money, S'mel.
Admit it.
That's why you made up that story about being 3.7% Ashkenazi Jewish.
And on another thread you said it was just 3%.
So you're just upping the number in order to eek every 10th of a percent outta cc's bank account, eh.
Thats surely the mark of a true con artist, man.
I had two different DNA tests done, Joe! One found 3.7% superior Ashkenazi Jew genes in there, while the other it was something like 2.0% Jew, so I'll just use 3.0% as an averaged figure!
But either way, I still don't think CC would share 3.0% of her shekels with me... Us Jews are pretty tight with the cash, even amongst our own!
I mean, you know how copper wire was invented, right? Two Jews fighting over a penny.

Obviously, your dick.

Cas,
I'm not as tight-assed as you think I am (and no doubt the Syrian-obssessed Nazi would agree with this assessment given his inability to interpret things metaphorically); I have my zany, whirlygigged moments.
I'll give you a Cliff Notes bio (and see how many different kinds of nuts object):
- French-Canadian, born in Ontario, raised in Quebec, bilingual
- Came of age in the late 70's
- First memories are of being "wrongly gendered" (from about the age of 3)
- University degree: Religious Studies (Asian Traditions), Minor in Western Philosophy
- Spent much time in Europe, India, and the Caribbean, but would love to travel to Asian countries and to Australia (avoiding Adelaide, if possible)
- Moderate left political leanings without falling into extremist traps
- Refuse and refute agenda-driven thinking
- Staunchly individualistic with a great appreciation for human diversity
- Spent the last 20 years working in the fields of social outreach, community organization, and housing support
- Write lots, read lots, draw lots, play music lots -- can hold my own with a hammer and nails
- Modded, Co-Adminned, and Adminned online communities since 2004
- Killer taste in women's fashion
- Too sexy for my bodies.
There you have it, Caskur. Pleased to meet you.

Well you really thumb your nose up at people under the guise of democratic rights and freedoms that are granted to you in Canada. You hide behind these freedoms like a misbehaving child hiding behind a woman's skirt. Like these female mods in all these forums who coddle & mother you like a baby. In other nations like Brazil large groups of young men go on the warpath of homo or trans hunting. They hunt your types down, either beating them up or killing them.

Oh, Joe.
I was going to wait until you sober up before replying but I figured, what the hell, sobriety isn't apt to improve your grammar and syntax so here goes nothing.
I "thumb my nose up" at no one (and, if you're having trouble telling the difference between "thumbing one's nose" and "turning up one's nose" at someone, PM me and I'll explain it to you). I certainly don't ever do so while hiding behind democratic rights and freedoms. I stand in plain view. Also, I'll have you know that those rights and freedoms you speak of are "granted" to everyone, not just "my type," nor just "your type."
And I understand far better than you do, Joe, for having spent my entire life dealing with people who think me unworthy of those rights and freedoms, just how precious and fragile they are. I'll even point that your constant bashing of the U.S. in these matters signals your utter ignorance of the import of these freedoms to our neighbours to the south, on the one hand, and to your disgraceful contempt for American citizens, on the other.
See, Joe, what you fail to understand--and it's a continual failure on your part--is that human rights and freedoms are one side of the coin, duties and responsibilities to your fellow citizens (and to your fellow human beings, if you're in a cosmopolitan mood) being the other. Regardless of creed, sex, ethnic background, sexual orientation, income level, social or political affiliation, and, yes, gender identity.
I've devoted most of my professionnal life helping "your type," Joe, just because I see you as my neighbour, worthy of the same rights and freedoms as everyone else, and to be held to the same duties and responsibilities as everyone else.
What have you done for me, Joe? I mean, other than gleefully entertain the desiderata of my own demise and of those you think are my "type"?
My "type" is grabbing your hand and pulling your "type" out of the tarpits of mental illness even as you let fly death wishes my way.
So don't turn up your nose at me and talk down to me of rights and responsibilities until such time as you gain a clearer understanding of who is your neighbour and who isn't. (And if you think there's still someone on God's green earth who isn't, you have much more learning to do, my friend.)
Mel! How goes? You still alive? Ran out of shells, did you? :001_tongue:
Jesus Christ on a bicycle, Blurto...that's around 20 minutes of your life wasted trying to reason with a knuckle dragging troglodyte who's generally concept of existence is equivalent to that of a tardigrade. And a rather less intelligent tardigrade at that.
You're trying to convince a man who drives imaginary celebrities in an imaginary limousine to an imaginary movie location the principles of a compassionate human society. You may was well try to teach a budgerigar to sing "Bohemian Rhapsody" all the way through...including the guitar bridge.

Both my Tatas are in need of a bra. I already have a bra but it was designed for a Parisienne. It won't fit my Tatas.

That's wonderful RDL, I hope you had a nice time..
I'm off until January 2, but we had an informal lunch and gift exchange among the ladies in the office on Friday, December 14..
They will have a formal Christmas luncheon this Friday, but I won't be there.
I will be making a Christmas meal at home and bringing it to all the men at my husband's shop.
