Title: Bought home a ball python today...
Post by: Berry Sweet on September 23, 2018, 01:22:14 AM
...went to the reptile expo in abbotsford today....promised I wouldn't bring anything home....

...the point was for the kid to explore and educate herself...I was shocked while being there, she was extremely well informed about all reptiles....she has been reading on the web and watching countless videos about reptile care...I'm so proud of her....

...she really wanted a cat, I really dint want one...last one clawed my couch :(  I ha e been taking her after work to volunteer at the shelter for a week, and she fell in love with all the cats...and one particular one...ugh....so the deal was I get the snake and drop the cat...she agreed...thank God!

So now we have a snake.  We are also in the process of adopting another beardy from the shelter....I have all the equipment just desperately trying to find a 50g tank.

That sums up my exciting Saturday!

Welfare mommies really shouldn't be bringing home exotic pets...  Sorry.

Chuck...yes, I did live on welfare at one point, but eventually I went back to work.  My kid is old enough to be home alone amongst other things.  I'd be so bored if I wasnt working.

They're an Australian native. How do you come by them in Canada?

Quote from: "Chuck Bronson"You can't even take proper care of your fucking kid, so the LAST fucking thing you need to bring home are some exotic pets that need a fair amount of attention.

You should talk....you've never raised a kid...its harder than taking care of an animal.  At this point im over qualified.

From what I researched they are from Africa.  I'm sure you can purchase them just about anywhere in the world.  People breed them.

I know you would.  I do like cats.  I just dont want something that is needy and needs attention.  Reptiles work for me.  And I do love the aquarium life!   I love setting it up and making it look super cool.

My new place, the living room is quite large so I've divided it into two..  one space is the couch and TV and the other side is my TV stand with the tanks.

I hope for her sake & her child she's just making it up.

A python attack five years ago killed two children after it escaped from a pet shop in New Brunswick Canada:

Other than for zoos those things should be banned for the public good.

BT this is one reason I favor the ownership of at least one small handgun for home use.

To protect its inhabitants in the event that they are attacked in cases like that.

If I lived next door to someone with a python I'd wanna have a gun for self defense

Yes.  The start up might be expensive with all the equipment, but I already have it all.  They only eat 1x week.

In the wild yes...but as a pet, you buy them frozen, thaw and then feed.   Sometimes the rodent will bite and harm the snake and then they wont want to eat it...causing more damage...so frozen and thawed is best.

I owned a Colombian Redtailed Boa got him when he was the size of my baby finger , feed him live pinkies to start(baby mice/rat) then tried frozen bought everything from my friend who bred snakes, spiders, hissing cockroaches, other strange insects, frogs,lizards,monitors...etc, even had some Komodos (babies)

had to switch Clyde from frozen to live(which I'd stun to avoid injury to Clyde) because he got depressed and ignored frozen or spit it out(which it extremely unhealthy)

Pythons can get pretty big and have big teeth I know my Snek got to around 10 feet..

Snek handling wasn't for me though ,so I ended up giving him away...

and congrats on the new edition Berry

Well, I traded the python last week for a gecko.  I liked the snake but it didnt want frozen anymore...it wanted live food...I'm very uncomfortable about that.  So I traded with a friend.  The kid lived her gecko and her kids loved my snake...so it was a good trade!

This one is older and is a nice plump one.  Very cute.  No more animals for now.

There is a gecko that looks like a leaf and blends right I to nature...I really like those.  I wouldnt mind one for myself.  I had my kids bday at an animal santuary where they got to have hands on tour with a guide...I was going to get that gecko they had there while I was there, but it got adopted out :( the bday was success tho!  The kid got to go in with the huge tortoises and feed them! She loves tortoises! You can only do this atbut he santuary if you have a party and are the birthday girl...so this was well worth it...she was so happy she was crying!
