The Canadian justice system has freed serial killers, child murderers, mass shooters, cop killers, cannibals and even terrorists — all against the desperate pleas of victim's families
Canadian public opinion has been galvanized this week by the news that Terri-Lynne McClintic, one of the murderers of eight-year-old Tori Stafford, has been transferred to a low-security "healing lodge" after only eight years in federal prison.
Canadians would be right to suspect that this is something that happens relatively often. A Canadian given a "life sentence" for first-degree murder can expect to get out of jail in only 22.4 years, according to 2002 numbers from Corrections Service Canada. The Canadian justice system has freed serial killers, child murderers, mass shooters, cop killers, cannibals and even terrorists. Just as in the case of the transfer of McClintic, these releases have almost always occurred despite the fervent appeals of victims' families.

That's a lot of cold blooded murderers living among us.

very unfortunate, most murders and other violent crimes are committed by recidivist criminals who were let out before they should have been. Stuff like this gives bad guys more opportunity to prey on people, and they will.

Tori Stafford's killer claims to have a little Native Indian blood, so she could finish out her sentence in a no security Native healing house for women.

To any of these losers. They may only have 1-5% native blood and they want all the full benefits of being native. They need to stop giving these people status cards and superior rights. It's disgusting.

My main point in posting this was that "murderers in general" are getting off way too lightly
Agreed the native thing stinks, but that is not the main point of the article containing a very long but far from complete list
Point being that many if not most or even all Canadian murderers are getting off easy - and that seems very bad to me as their victims did not get off easy .... and in fact received capital punishment
Letting murderers out must be a special kind of hell for family and fiends of victims. They do not deserve this

This thread has kind of went off topic..
I knew a few killers were were getting sentences too short(Karla Homolka), but I didn't know so many were getting their sentences reduced..
And it is a slap in the face to their victims families.

I wonder how many early released murderers have committed violent crimes after being set free.
Unfortunately the stats below don't specifically answer the question, but they do show the recidivism rate in general, which is pretty stunning IMO.
The US Bureau of Justice study found that inmates released from state prisons have a five-year recidivism rate of 76.6%--more than 3 out of 4 will be caught re-offending.
Another, National Institute of Justice, found about 68 percent of 405,000 prisoners released in 30 states in 2005 were arrested for a new crime within three years of their release from prison, and 77 percent were arrested within five years.
someone who murders another person is probably even more likely to commit another crime, probably a violent one. letting any number of them out to prey on others, it is a virtual certainty many of them will harm someone again.

True. Most important is that for so many, rehab / change cannot happen. Many simply are what they are

How can they be so sure they will continue to take their psychotropic medication?

Trudeau bails on vote to denounce child killer - Wouldn't Even Vote at all
"Trudeau stood in the House of Commons and said he would not denounce the special treatment being awarded to child killer Terri-Lynne McClintic.
MPs were asked to vote on a Conservative motion denouncing the fact that McClintic has been moved from a secure prison facility to a healing lodge with no fence and with children present.
Trudeau couldn't do it. In fact, when the time came for MPs to vote, Trudeau bailed.
He didn't stay and stand for the vote, he voted on the bill immediately before this and left, so no record of his cowardice is on file."

If you ask how much his national carbon tax is you are a denier. If you ask if he will reimburse provinces for the costs of illegal border crossings, you are a racist. And if you ask him to reconsider special treatment given to a kiddie killer, you are an ambulance chaser. This is the real politics of division that Justine will fight the next election on.
Not have time to check if this one is on the list - in any regard it's worth noting
Quintuple killer Matthew de Grood may be granted limited freedom (//https)
Quintuple killer Matthew de Grood is to be transferred to Edmonton where he may be granted supervised visits to the community or placement in a halfway house, the Alberta Review Board has ruled.
In an 11-page ruling, the board determined it would be in the best interest of public safety to have de Grood transferred to Alberta Hospital Edmonton from the Southern Alberta Forensic Psychiatry Centre in Calgary.
The move is in part a result of the "toxic" atmosphere de Grood faces in Calgary, including the anger of the victims' families and public backlash.
In May 2016, de Grood was found not criminally responsible by reason of a mental disorder in the April 15, 2014, deaths of five young adults at a house party.
De Grood fatally stabbed Joshua Hunter, Kaitlin Perras, Jordan Segura, Lawrence Hong and Zackariah Rathwell.
The board says that while de Grood "remains a significant threat to the public were he to relapse into a full psychotic state," doctors can increase his freedoms.
"In the opinion of the board, transferring de Grood to AHE to continue his treatment is the best way of protecting the safety of the public while imposing the least onerous order upon him," the board said in its ruling.
It said doctors at Alberta Hospital can grant de Grood increased freedom with escorted visits to Edmonton and surrounding communities accompanied by a responsible adult.
At their discretion, doctors can also permit de Grood "residence in 24-hour supervised approved accommodation in the City of Edmonton and area," the board said.
[WTF??]

First Nations Don't Want Child Killer On Their Land
Child killer Terri-lynne Mcclintic isn't welcome at the healing lodge that sits on Nekaneet First Nation land, band members say.
Mcclintic's transfer from a medium-security prison in Ontario to the Okimaw Ochi Healing Lodge in Saskatchewan has triggered national outrage.
And local band members are furious as well that they were not consulted and only recently learned the child killer was nearby.
There are no fences at the healing lodge and over the years, there have been a number of escapes.
"When you have cases like this that are this horrendous it is a safety concern for everybody because we have children in our community and I know that there are some mothers out there in our community that are absolutely concerned for their children," band member Cherish Francis told CKOM News Talk Radio.
The Woodstock murderer — who may not even be Indigenous — was convicted in the brutal first-degree kidnapping and sex slaying of Tori Stafford in 2009.
Tori was just eight years old. Mcclintic was sentenced to life with no parole for 25 years.
But even after a jailhouse assault in 2016, Mcclintic got the green light after just eight years to be sent to a healing lodge last December.
Francis — who is a spokeswoman for the band — added that members are furious they weren't consulted.
She also said she was worried that the Ontario child killer could derail the work the healing lodges do.
The true purpose is to reduce the high incarceration rate of Indigenous people, she said.
McClintic's brother says 'she's no more Indigenous than I am green from the planet Mars'
The brother of convicted child-killer Terri-Lynne McClintic says the only reason his sister is in a healing lodge is because she manipulated the corrections system.
"She is no more Indigenous than I am green from the planet Mars," he said in an exclusive interview with Global News.
McClintic's brother said his sister is trying to make her life easier while serving her sentence for the brutal murder of eight-year-old Tori Stafford in 2009, and that he believes she should be removed from Saskatchewan's Okimaw Ohci Healing Lodge and sent to a narrow cell in a maximum security prison.
"With what I know about Terri-Lynne, Terri-Lynne is taking a bed away from somebody that could benefit from it."
