The Guest Nest / Anyone ever get a PS4 repaired?
November 12, 2021, 07:57:47 PM
Didn't know where to post this so I put it here...

I've got a PS4 that I've had for about seven years and never had a problem with it, then this morning I'm playing and it shuts off and the tv it's connected to also shut off. Thought it was the surge protector so I replaced it, started playing again and after about ten minutes the same thing happens. This time the PS4 goes off, the tv goes off, and a stereo plugged into a different wall outlet shut off.

Okay at this point I'm starting to sweat thinking how much electrical repairs cost. So I unhooked the PS4 and hooked up my old PS3 and I've been gaming for two hours without any problem. So it seems the PS4 is shorting out or sending a surge or something.

From what I've read getting a new power supply put in is about 150 bucks so I'm wondering if anyone ever had a console repaired... did it work, how long before it broke again or anything... or maybe I should make a fancy paperweight out of it and get a PS5... hmm, Christmas is coming up at that...

Alec Baldwin fired a prop gun on a set in New Mexico on Thursday, accidentally killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and wounding director Joel Souza.

The incident occurred on the set of "Rust," an independent feature that was filming at the Bonanza Creek Ranch, a popular production location south of Santa Fe.

Hutchins, 42, was transported by helicopter to University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque, where she died. Souza, 48, was taken by ambulance to Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center in Santa Fe, where he is undergoing treatment for his injuries, according to the Santa Fe County Sheriff's office.

The Sheriff's office said in a statement that Hutchins and Souza "were shot when a prop firearm was discharged by Alec Baldwin, 68, producer and actor."

The Flea Trap / Happy Autumnal Equinox!

Today marks the first day of astronomical fall for 2021.

The fall equinox will happen today, Sept. 22, at 2:21 p.m. CDT. That marks the minute when the sun will be directly above the equator, making day and night nearly equal in length across the world, according to NASA.

The Sun shines almost equally on the Northern and Southern hemispheres only during the fall and spring equinoxes, according to NASA.

In the Northern Hemisphere the days ahead will be marked by later sunrises and earlier sunsets. The opposite will be true south of the equator.

She's cashing in on her 15 minutes of flame.

The woman in the iconic "Disaster Girl" meme is capitalizing on her internet fame 16 years later — by selling the original photo for a mind-boggling $473,000.

"Disaster Girl" is now a non-fungible token (NFT), a unique digital signature, which allowed it to be sold like a piece of art.

"I'm a part of history," said Zoe Roth, now 21, who first ignited the World Wide Web at 4 years old after she was photographed smirking devilishly outside a burning building.

The Flea Trap / To quench your thirst this Easter...

Spring is in the air and Easter is just a week and a half away, which means we are well past due for an insane new Peeps flavor—but this year, they're making a splash in soda form.

In the most unlikely collaboration since Ed Sheeran and Andrea Bocelli, Peeps has partnered with Pepsi to create Marshmallow Cola, which comes in a three-pack of cute little 7.5-oz. cans. Sadly, these won't be available on grocery store shelves this year, but fans can enter the sweepstakes to win some by hashtagging "#HangingWithMyPEEPS" on their social media photos.

More specifically, the prompt tells you to share photos enjoying your favorite springtime activities—"in a safe, socially distant manner," of course.

CINCINNATI, Ohio — On Saturday, Cincinnati Customs and Border Patrol officers seized 44 pounds of corn flakes coated with cocaine, a shipment which could have a street value of up to $2.8 million.

According to a news release Friday, CBP Narcotic Detector Dog Bico was working freight from Peru coming into Cincinnati when he alerted officers to a large shipment of cereal bound for a Hong Kong residence.

That's not Frosted Flakes—CBP K9 "Bico" sniffed out 44lbs of cocaine in a shipment of cereal originating from South America.

Officers opened the box and discovered the cereal contained white powder, and the flakes were coated with a "grayish substance." Upon testing the flakes and powder, CBP officers found the "frosted" flakes contained cocaine.

Cincinnati Port Director Richard Gillespie said smugglers will hide narcotics in "anything imaginable," even in cereal.

The Flea Trap / Think of your ex this Valentine's Day

Ever felt like ripping your ex's head off? Well now you can. Sorta.

For just $5, the San Antonio Zoo will name a cockroach after your former significant other and feed it to a bird, reptile or mammal. It's part of the zoo's "Cry Me a Cockroach" event on Valentine's Day. And if your ex-boo was an especially snaky one, pay $20 more to have zoo keepers feed a frozen rat to a reptile instead.

For those not into critters, the zoo offers a $5 herbivore option that consists of romaine lettuce, cabbage and other leafy greens that can be fed to vegetarian animals.

The best part of the deal? You don't have to be at the zoo to watch your ex-turned-pest get eaten up. San Antonio Zoo plans to stream the feedings on Facebook Live. You'll even receive a certificate to share on social media. If you're feeling brave enough, post it and tag that unlucky someone.

Jilted lovers have until Feb. 13 at 6 p.m. ET to register on the zoo's website. Only first names will be displayed during the event. The money raised from the "Cry Me A Cockroach" event will go towards expanding the zoo's jaguar habitat with a connected overhead catwalk.

Walt Patrick slowly rolls a giant wooden spool-shaped cradle back and forth. Inside, a human body is gradually being turned into compost, one of the first licensed "natural organic reductions" to be performed in the entire country.

"This is simply another option at a time when people feel they have no options," Patrick said. "You know, death has intervened and changed your life forever. How can you do something at least to make it the way you want?"

Patrick is the senior steward at Herland Forest, a natural burial cemetery and nonprofit research center located north of the Columbia River Gorge in Klickitat County, Washington. Natural organic reduction (NOR) has given them a second way to return bodies to the land.

In 2019, Gov. Jay Inslee signed legislation making Washington the first state to approve composting as an alternative to burying or cremating human remains. Advocates say composting is a greener alternative to cremation because it uses less energy. It's also the only legal way for Washingtonians to be laid to rest on their own property, albeit in the form of mulch.

The new law took effect in 2020.
