Back in the day when you wanted to know what people really thought you would go to the Yahoo message boards. Anyone could make an account using any name they wanted with no verification e-mail needed. Fly through the boards posting whatever you want without worrying about mods or censors. People were brutally honest with their opinions. I remember scrolling the boards on 9-11 and reading people's reactions as it happened live and let me tell you they were NOT politically correct.

Then news sites started shutting down their forums because they were afraid someone would get mad at someone else and something would happen and the web site would then be sued into oblivion. Or if they did keep their forum you'd need an e-mail verification and the place would be crawling with mods. More and more people started getting banned for stating opinions which were unpopular at the time. Most social media still does it today.

The old forums I knew, Cosmic Outpost, Troll Valhalla, Bad Yahoo, the Cindybin board, and ( hang my head in shame ) The Dana Crew mostly sprung up from Yahoo posters who started their own forums to keep the discussions going. It went well for a while but then fights would break out and people would leave.

Just human nature I guess.

Dammit now I forgot what I was rambling about. Maybe I shouldn't have taken that bong hit.  :Ghelyon:

For shitz and gigglez. The US crashed a spy plane on Hainan Island in 2001 I believe. It sent the whole of China into a nationalistic frenzy. It's Beijing's turn to have some fun, but with balloons.

Yeah really it's probably all just a troll. I bet it's an old balloon they were going to trash and then thought "Hey let's fly it over the US and freak 'em all out"

Right now the SOTU speech is coming on so I'm digging through my DVD collection to find something to watch.

Why would China bother with a balloon when they most likely have a few dozen spy satellites in orbit already? Doesn't make sense.

Forums where people get together and chat aren't too common anymore... probably everyone went to Twitter or Facebook... some places like the Steam Forums still get lots of traffic because it's dedicated to video gaming but yeah general chat forums are on the way out...

Hey I know let's write a game where Seamajor is the final boss throwing lib catch phrases at you while you pummel him with the Common Sense Gun and when he goes down you get the choice to waste him or turn him into a conservative or something :)

Start off really light to see if you have a bad reaction to it and slowly increase the dose if everything's okay. That stuff had me throwing up for three hours.

Canadian groundhog Fred la Marmotte died before he could predict the arrival of the spring season on Groundhog Day on Thursday.

Fred, 9, was found dead overnight by Roberto Blondin, the organizer of the annual la Jour de Fred event — or Fred's day — in Val-d'Espoir, Quebec, Reuters reported.

According to The Guardian, Fred showed "no vital signs" after Blondin tried to wake him, local media reported. Blondin said Fred may have died last year while in hibernation, per Reuters. "In life, the only thing that's certain is that nothing is certain," Blondin said, according to the outlet. "Well, this year it's true. It's sadly true. I announce to you that Fred is dead."

The event went on without Fred, as Blondin gave a stuffed toy version of a groundhog to a child standing in the sun to honor the tradition.

A shadow was cast, forecasting that spring will be delayed and that winter will be prolonged for another six weeks.

Lisa Loring, the actress best known for portraying Wednesday Addams in "The Addams Family," has died, her family confirmed to Variety on Sunday night.

She died following a stroke, Variety reported. She was 64 years old.

Loring starred in the original version of the series starting in 1964, when she was only 6 years old. She stayed on for both seasons before the show went off the air.

Her iconic character Wednesday, known for her moody demeanor and long pigtails, has had a resurgence in popularity in recent months since the release of Netflix's "Wednesday." In the new series, Jenna Ortega plays a teenage Wednesday Addams. One scene of her dancing in the show has gone viral.

To choreograph the dance, Ortega said she drew inspiration from Loring's portrayal of Wednesday, who had her own signature dance moves.
