Quote from: "Yeah Right"Thanks Herms.  Got it.  Sorry for being slow on the uptake.

Fash, what was your opinion on the guys at the forum?  Did you think they were right or wrong or somewhere in between.  I never saw your take.

I've been trying to scroll through my brain to remember all the asians I have seen in the media.  Not much in the way of news stories unless its something to do with China, Japan, Korea etc.

I guess then there's movies and TV.  I don't remember that much.  And what I do remember I don't think it showed Asian guys as sexually undesirable.  Although I could be wrong.

Generally the stereotype by word of mouth is that Asians are usually nice and good at school.  One of my best friends in high school was a japanese American, he fit that to a tee.

It's complicated Yeah Right..

There are definitely stereotypes of East Asian males in the USA and being popular with women is usually not one of them..

American media does little to change that stereotype either..

That being said, there are lots of young East Asian males who have girlfriends who are East Asian, Caucasian, Latin American and so on..

The young men on the old Asian American forums that scapegoated women like me for selling out in almost all cases do not have girlfriends and they are bitter about it..

I know it's not unique to our community, but blaming the media brings a different angle to it..

I should add, that I am friends with one of those young men that used to call me whitewashed and a sell out wh**e of the white man..

He has a white girlfriend now....the irony.

Ah, the angst of young men.

Donald Trump risks China rift with Taiwan call

First US-Taiwanese presidential contact since diplomatic relations were cut in 1979

Donald Trump risks opening up a major diplomatic dispute with China before he has even been inaugurated after speaking on the telephone on Friday with Tsai Ing-wen, the president of Taiwan.

The call, confirmed by four people, is believed to be the first between a US president or president-elect and a leader of Taiwan since diplomatic relations between the two were cut in 1979.

Although it is not clear if the Trump transition team intended the conversation to signal a broader change in US policy towards Taiwan, the call is likely to infuriate Beijing which regards the island as a renegade province.

The US has adopted the so-called One China policy since 1972 after the Nixon-Mao meetings and in 1978 President Jimmy Carter formally recognised Beijing as the sole government of China, with the US embassy closing in Taipei the year after.

The Trump team did not initially respond to multiple requests for comment but, after the Financial Times first published news of the call, confirmed that the president-elect had spoken with Ms Tsai and "noted the close economic, political, and security ties" between Taiwan and the United States

Taiwan is a de facto nation.

It would be de jure too, but China bullies the world into denying that Taiwan is a country.

Quote from: "Angry White Male"...stop crying about Trump winning the election?

I voted for Harper, and Trudeau won.  I don't think I cried for too long, as that's how voting works in a democracy.

Hey, I lean left on a few issues also...  Nonetheless, I cannot, and will not, align myself with these adult crybabies.

Now, don't get me wrong...  I know quite well that life isn't fair, and some people are idiots.  We see this around the forums, and we see this in the 'real world' also.

Now, as a Canadian, it surprises me as to how many individuals World-Wide that aren't even US citizens, are putting forth as much effort as they are to "protest" his win...  Do these people have unlimited "free time" to do nothing but worry about Trump, even though he's not even Prez yet?  It seems that way...

I could easily stereotype the people that are still crying...  I won't.  We know who they are, and what they do.

So, I'll set up a simple poll instead...

People that hate Trump will never accept him as their president. People in Toronto who protest his victory have no right to complain as they did not vote in the American election.

Of all the people who declared their candidacy for POTUS, Trump was not even close to being my choice. But, now that he is the president, I hope he is pragmatic and makes good decisions for the nation. If approves KXL, he is good for Canada. If he makes big changes to NAFTA, not so much. Let's hope he is prudent and puts sense ahead of ideology.

The guy that puts the paper bag over her head before he fucks her.

Now there's an image I can live without.

3 things you need to fuck that hag; a bag, a six pack, and low self esteem.

A six pack? Some of us can still see after a six pack.

That's cuz you're fat and fat people need more drinks to get drunk...

Who is this new fat lady. Out of work since the circus no longer employs freaks?

Good times Gord.

Speaking of good times, remember Jimmy LaSalvia threatening legal action because I was using his name as my handle. I tell friends and family about that one every chance I get. ac_toofunny

Quote from: "iron horse jockey"I know what you mean. I remember the first time I met a couple from Winnipeg on a trip to Caribbean. Instant and long conversation, than dinner and an excursion together.

I have a feeling when I retire and leave Canada, I will miss this city that I wanted so badly to leave.

There are a lot of retired Peggers out in BC and warmer climes. I bet they cannot go a one day without mentioning the Peg no matter how long they have been gone.

Quote from: "RW"I had a rhizotomy.  They stuck a giant needle in my face and used a laser to kill parts of the trigeminal nerve.  Half my face is numb now but I don't have any pain.

I got back Monday from a business trip to China. I met up with some Canadian expats. The one that I had an immediate friendly connection with was a fellow Pegger. We drank Tsingtao until the bar closed talking any and all things Winnipeg. At no time do I realize how much this city is part of who I am as when I am away from her.

This city has it's problems, but the people that live here have a connection that I have not seen in any other city in the country. Once a Winnipegger always a Pegger.
