Quote from: "Angry White Male"I'm not sure what you're asking here.

I can have my company retain my pay for the year, which I may do.

I can also pay myself in dividends, which are taxed differently.

I simply don't have to employ a number of cranky employees to make my business work.

Your labour costs are what I was getting at. In your previous post, it seemed you were saying your labour costs were lower than a Subway franchisee. I see now how you do it. You do not have employees.

Quote from: "Angry White Male"The profit margin is about half of what owning a Subway provides...

However, I can offset this margin due to the fact that I don't have to hire a bunch of minimum wage cranky people...

That, and since I have no family or life, I can do much of the "business aspect" work myself, instead of paying others to do it for me.

I don't get that. Your labour costs will be significantly than a Subway franchisee. How does that offset low profit margins?

I am a business owner myself.

Quote from: "JOE"...they never used to interest me.

However, I tried some out this summer, and I thought...hey, not bad!

They're stylish, luxurious, comfortable...and fast!

Plus they have the cachet of status and prestige.

Yeah...I can imagine driving one through town, down by the beach with the wind blowin' through my hair....

That'd be the life I tell ya!

So, any sports car lovers here? Have ya owned any?

What are your favorites? Which in you opinion are overrated?

What are the downsides of owning one?

Discuss....

I prefer luxury vehicles myself. What did you test drive?

Quote from: "Angry White Male"From running a quasi-one man show, to properly incorporating and running a business is more effort than most people could handle.

Luckily I have enough brain power to do so, and most importantly...  The financial capital to make it a possibility.

VERY important things to remember...

You are in th4e trucking business? Very competitive from what I have heard and a lot of headaches. Good luck, you will need it.

It is called cultural differences.

How different?

Academic expectations are often different..

How time is managed outside of school hours is frequently different too..

Interactions with friends are controlled too..

I had no concept of a sleep over when I was a young girl.

This is the correct thread.  :laugh3:

I know you got it in the wrong thread the first time. It was true in my house.

I had a Japanese girlfriend and teamate in HS. She played a decent second base. I used to bust her chops all the time by saying if her parents ever made her miss a game because she got less than an "A", the rest of us white girls would give her a "blanket party". ac_biggrin

I wonder what life would have been like if I had been raised by my Japanese grandmother? ac_umm

A healthier diet perhaps.

Very few people know how to speak upside-down.  :icon_wink:

It's not even offered as a second language in my children's school.

That is the fault of your NDP government. :laugh3:

Quote from: "shin"By first time, I mean the first time you rebelled against your parents or guardian? What did you think I meant?  ac_biggrin

My Mother told me harshly to do something when I was an adolescent. I forget what I said back to my Mother, but it seemed like a bright idea at the time. I do remember she slapped me right across the face for it. I learned not to talk back that day.

My Mother was the more strict disciplinarian of the two parents. The only time my Father ever disciplined me was grounding for a week, and he let me go outside after 4 days in. When I was about 10, Mom told me I was allowed to play in the courtyard, but under no circumstances should I cross the street. One day some of the neighborhood kids convinced me that I should go bike riding with them. We went several miles down a busy street. When I got back, she was waiting for me with a belt in hand. She told me to take off my pants and she gave me the whipping of the century.

Other than those precious first time learning experiences with testing the waters, I was a well-behaved kid.

I forget if I asked you guys this, but how do you feel about disciplining a child below the age of 13? Do you think time outs are sufficient, do you opt for grounding, or is a spanking in order in some circumstances?

The biggest even that stands for me in my youth, was coming out to my parents. My dad had a hard time getting over that one, if he ever did. That was thirty years ago. No doubt it would be easier today.

As for actual rebellion, I did all the usual things. I stayed out too late on school nights, I came home drunk when I was fifteen, I took my mom's car after being forbidden to do so. Temporary removal of privileges was always the punishment. That included no spending money.

Who knows how far he would have taken this had Churchill not changed his handle and apologized.

No apologies were necessary.  He just wanted it removed.

Oh OK. I thought he demanded both. I agree with CC, he sounds like a drama queen.

Could be.

Quote from: "Churchill"I am sorry for using your name and image. I never intended to trick anyone into thinking I was the real you. Your name was just a handle I chose.

To be frank, I never heard of Jimmy LaSalvia before..

But, I gathered it was not your real name and I accept you were not impersonating him..

But, we have to be careful about these things..

Obviously Jimmy LasSalvia did not see it as a harmless use of his name as a handle.

I sent a message to him. I hope he accepts my apology and forgets the whole thing.

I was in Calgary in May on business. My hotel seemed fairly busy. The parking lot was near full.
