So an episode of CHiPs comes on that was filmed during the oil embargo of '79... the opening scene shows long lines of cars waiting to pull up to the pump and all the drivers yelling at each other and here comes Ponch and Baker on their bikes. They check out the scene and Baker says "I don't know about you but I think these gas prices are sky-high!"

Then the camera pulls back showing the sign and the gas is 89 cents.

I gotta quit watching tv   :2505pjr_th:

I'm watching the Gilligan's Island binge on what used to be the Decades channel. Mary Ann is running around in shorts and I'm thinking about chicken thighs for dinner.

Was the first one replaced with the same model radiator? If so it sounds like a design defect and there may be a class action settlement going on somewhere.

Walmart has removed a recycling-themed shirt from sale after a viral Twitter post pointed out a vulgar acronym hidden within the design.

The shirt featured large lettering reading "RE" on the left, with the words "cycle," "use," "new" and "think" written in smaller lettering on the right. The intended takeaway, apparently, was for onlookers to interpret the message as four distinct words: "recycle," "reuse," "renew" and "rethink."

But the lettering on the right side of the shirt, when read vertically, spelled out an inappropriate four-letter word.

"I need this shirt before Walmart realizes what they have done," wrote the Twitter user in a now-viral post containing an image of the shirt. "Find the hidden word."

I was poking through the Internet Archives and found a bunch of old DOS games so I grabbed Doom and a bunch of wads and am happily reliving my youth.

They got a lot of neat stuff there - https://archive.org/">https://archive.org/

Al Jaffee, a cartoonist who folded in when the trend in magazine publishing was to fold out, thereby creating one of Mad magazine's most recognizable and enduring features, died on Monday in Manhattan. He was 102.

His death, at a hospital, was caused by multi-system organ failure, his granddaughter Fani Thomson said.

It was in 1964 that Mr. Jaffee created the Mad Fold-In, an illustration-with-text feature on the inside of the magazine's back cover that seemed at first glance to deliver a straightforward message. When the page was folded in thirds, however, both illustration and text were transformed into something entirely different and unexpected, often with a liberal-leaning or authority-defying message.

"It was supposed to be really a one-shot," he said in a 1993 interview with The Kansas City Star. "But because of the overwhelming demand of three or four of my relatives, it went on to a second time, and on and on."

That "on and on" turned into a career that included other memorable contributions to Mad, like a "Snappy Answers to Stupid Questions" feature, and that in 2007 won him cartooning's top honor, the Reuben Award, putting him in the company of Charles M. Schulz, Mort Walker, Gary Larson, Matt Groening and other luminaries of the trade.

Ugandan president calls on Africa to 'save the world from homosexuality'

The Ugandan president, Yoweri Museveni, has called on African leaders to reject "the promotion of homosexuality", suggesting he will sign into law a controversial anti-LGBTQ+ bill, which was passed by parliament last month.

The bill, which imposes the death penalty for "aggravated homosexuality" and life imprisonment for "recruitment, promotion and funding" of same-sex "activities", has been widely criticised internationally, with the UN high commissioner for human rights urging the president not to sign it.

Speaking on Sunday, Museveni said homosexuality was "a big threat and danger to the procreation of human race [sic]".

He said: "Africa should provide the lead to save the world from this degeneration and decadence, which is really very dangerous for humanity. If people of opposite sex stop appreciating one another then how will the human race be propagated?"
