Joanne Linville, of 'Star Trek' and 'Twilight Zone' fame, dead at 93

">

Joanne Linville, a prolific actress best known for playing a Romulan commander in an episode of "Star Trek," died Sunday. She was 93.

Her passing was confirmed by Variety.

Linville, a California native, appeared in dozens of popular television shows in her decades-long career, including "The Twilight Zone," "Columbo," "Kojak," "Dynasty," "Charlie's Angels," "L.A. Law," "Gunsmoke," "The Streets of San Francisco," "Hawaii Five-0," "Route 66," "Barnaby Jones" and "Alfred Hitchcock Presents." She also worked in films including the 1976 version of "A Star Is Born," starring Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson, and the 1973 spy movie "Scorpio" with Burt Lancaster.

But she is often remembered for playing a powerful Romulan commander in the Sept. 27, 1968, "Star Trek" episode "The Enterprise Incident," in which her character faces off with Capt. James T. Kirk (William Shatner) and romances usually unfeeling Vulcan first officer Spock (Leonard Nimoy).

Bailey's courtroom victories also included an acquittal for a figure in the My Lai massacre during the Vietnam War and a successful appeal for Sam Sheppard, a Cleveland doctor convicted of murdering his wife.

Bailey was born in Waltham, Massachusetts in 1933. He attended Harvard for two years before joining the Navy, then switching to the Marines and becoming a fighter pilot.

After his military service, he went to law school at Boston University while running an investigative company for attorneys.

She's cashing in on her 15 minutes of flame.

The woman in the iconic "Disaster Girl" meme is capitalizing on her internet fame 16 years later — by selling the original photo for a mind-boggling $473,000.

"Disaster Girl" is now a non-fungible token (NFT), a unique digital signature, which allowed it to be sold like a piece of art.

"I'm a part of history," said Zoe Roth, now 21, who first ignited the World Wide Web at 4 years old after she was photographed smirking devilishly outside a burning building.

Apollo 11 astronaut Michael Collins, who piloted the ship from which Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin left to make their historic first steps on the moon in 1969, died Wednesday of cancer, his family said. He was 90.

Collins was part of the three-man Apollo 11 crew that effectively ended the space race between the United States and Russia and fulfilled President John F. Kennedy's challenge to reach the moon by the end of the 1960s.

Though he traveled some 238,000 miles to the moon and came within 69 miles, Collins never set foot on the lunar surface like his crewmates Aldrin and Armstrong, who died in 2012. None of the men flew in space after the Apollo 11 mission.

Former Vice President Walter Mondale dead at 93

">

Walter Frederick "Fritz" Mondale, who served as vice president under then-President Jimmy Carter before waging his own unsuccessful White House bid in 1984, has died, according to a family spokesperson. He was 93.

Mondale died at home in downtown Minneapolis surrounded by family, spokesperson Kathy Tunheim said.

"It is with profound sadness that we share news that our beloved dad passed away today in Minneapolis, Minnesota," Mondale's family said in a statement. "As proud as we were of him leading the presidential ticket for Democrats in 1984, we know that our father's public policy legacy is so much more than that."

In an email to former staffers obtained by CNN on Monday, Mondale acknowledged in a moving message that his "time has come."

Bernie Madoff, the former investment adviser with powerful connections who was convicted of running one of the largest Ponzi schemes in U.S. history has died in prison. He was 82.

In February 2020, CNBC reported that Madoff's lawyer asked that he be released from prison on compassionate grounds. In that filing, his lawyer claimed that Madoff has "18 months to live" and was suffering from cardiovascular disease and hypertension.

"I'm terminally ill," Madoff told The Washington Post in February 2020. "There's no cure for my type of disease. So, you know, I've served. I've served 11 years already, and, quite frankly, I've suffered through it."

Madoff pleaded guilty to 11 crimes in 2009 relating to a Ponzi scheme that swindled thousands of investors out of billions of dollars. He was sentenced to 150 years in prison.

According to the Associated Press, Madoff was a former chairman of Nasdaq, and his facade of a "Midas touch" attracted high-profile clients like director Stephen Spielberg, actor Kevin Bacon and baseball Hall-of-Famer Sandy Koufax — some of whom never recovered the funds they gave to Madoff.

Prince Philip and Dolly Parton die at the same time and find themselves at the Pearly Gates. Saint Peter says "We only have room for one more today. Each of you show me something and I'll decide who gets let in."

Dolly Parton removed her top and showed Saint Peter the two biggest boobies he had ever seen. "Very nice" says Saint Peter.

Prince Philip then walks over to a toilet, takes a huge shit, and then flushes it away.

"You win", Saint Peter says to Prince Philip. "You may go inside."

"Wait a minute", says Dolly Parton. "How did that get him inside instead of me?"

Saint Peter says "A royal flush beats a pair no matter how large they may be."
