You are correct.  The truck burst into flames upon impact with the concrete wall of the overpass.  His charred corpse is under the tarp.

Happened at 03:00.  We figure he was possibly double-shifting the truck (working both a day and night job, which is NOT allowed) and simply fell asleep at the wheel, drifting off the highway in the worst spot he could.  Luckily at that time of the morning traffic is light, and he didn't take anyone else out with him.

Operating heavy while tired can have fatal consequences. Big problem on the railway too.

The driver is one crispy critter under that tarp, since truck caught fire once it hit the overpass concrete wall.

Judging by the impact, he would have been dead before any fire took hold.



If not, his demise would have been brutally insufferable.

The impact blew debris right onto the top of the overpass, so the forces involved were strong.  That said, I guess only an autopsy could determine if he was dead before fire...

My bet is he was mercifully dead on impact. What would that be...around 6 tonnes, hitting at what looks like 90km/h on impact. Instant death.

Empty truck would weigh around 12,000 kilo, and empty pony trailer would weigh 5,000 kilo.



Speed limit there is 100 km/h.  He didn't travel far in grass median before impact, so yeah...  I bet around 80 to 90 km/h at impact would probably be about right.
