Quote from: "Bricktop"Just a hypothesis, but if memory serves things were a little more vibrant here when we had a more diverse cross section of opinions and socio-political views. We've become homogenised to some extent because those with alternate views to the majority move away for various reasons.

When we had some intelligent debates, it was interesting and engaging. Most of the members now hold a consistent view on many things, and those that don't are not really motivated to engage in debate.

We perhaps need to open the doors a little wider and offer a more open forum where disparate views are welcomed.

Just a thought...

I'm in total agreement Bricktop..

We have Peaches here and Blurt, but I would like more diversity.

Diversity is fine, but what about the forum cancers. I am talking about dick heads like old virgin Joe who wants this place shut down or Twenty IQ points.

Bricktop

I think I'm referring to diversity of intelligent discourse, not a diversity of intellectual capacity. There are some out there with a brain who are quite capable of throwing out alternative opinions using reason and logic. But because we are clearly hostile to their personal beliefs, there is no incentive to join in. We are widely accepted as a right of centre political forum.

I don't think that will change any time soon. Any left of centre views are usually shot down...and I own up to having my finger on the trigger as often as anyone.

But the consequence is a sense of unanimity...and where's the fun in that?

This is why I left VF. I liked debating with leftists like mimi, but Scouse and Seamajor don't know how to do  that.

I would welcome opposing view points.

There is some truth to that. But, some of the so called leftists have been drive by trolls.

There is no fun in that. But, maybe leftists don't want to post here. Maybe they don't want to be the lone dissenting voice. Perhaps Peaches would post more if there was a fellow leftist.

All I know with certainty, is that I would welcome a reasoned left wing poster who did not engage in discussion killing name calling.

The place is stale..

I dont mean the people are stale... But the discussion is a bit stale because we are all like minded.

Bricktop

I know.

Because of our reputation, trolls will target us with fake contrariness.

But it would make for a more dynamic and spirited, and thus "interesting", forum.

Odinson

We used to have posters like Romero (the fuckwit) who bravely defended his distorted/false view of the world.

That is indisputable.

Romero left all forums and was planning on it for a while..

He never wanted us to leave mmb.

I still post occasionally on another forum. There are leftists there. If I get to know one, I will invite them here. Perhaps Peaches will invite a fellow leftist here.

Yes, I'm aware of that.

Bricktop

Some may come to test the water, but when confronted by our rather militant position will probably not remain.

We will only attract alternative thinkers by being less rambunctious towards them.

We used to have a centre left poster(eagle) that was not a troll..

I used to be a centre left poster..

Seoul has been saying the same thing to me privately for years..

He has always wanted people to challenge his fiscally conservative views..

I would welcome the spirited debates they would bring. But, maybe I am being too aggressive and hostile in my positions without even being aware of it.
