My wife will be vaccinated next week. She's a nurse.

That is the number one Christmas gift this year. As a frontline worker, she needs it.

As of today, 29,067 people in Canada have been vaccinated while 1,0008, 025 people in the USA have received a COVID vaccine.

They are 10 times our population but they are vaccinating at more than 37 times the rate we are.

Pfizer just announced a deal to sell an extra 100 million doses to the U.S., doses that were open to any country before this deal. The Trump administration had at first passed on taking delivery of these doses but now it seems Canada could have had some of them and didn't secure the deal.

Asked about this Wednesday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke of the number of doses his government has purchased, the seven different vaccine manufacturers Canada has signed deals with, but he didn't address whether Canada could have received more vaccine doses sooner.

I've been critical of the Trudeau government for coming to the table late to try to secure vaccines. Their original plan to secure a vaccine with China fell apart in the spring and they seemed to wait for months before springing into action.

I will not be going to my second home, Florida, this year. I'm not as concerned about getting vaccinated as other people because I may have antibodies. But, this will be a long winter without my annual Florida golf trip.

Florida their best shot?

Canadian snowbirds in Florida might get both better weather and faster COVID-19 vaccinations than those back home, Gov. Ron DeSantis said.

At a news conference Tuesday, DeSantis said the state would prioritize the elderly over essential workers for the vaccinations.

Speaking in Villages, Fla., DeSantis said: "If you're a 22-year-old working in food services — say, a supermarket — you would have preference over a 74-year-old grandmother. I don't think that is the direction we want to go," he said. "We are not going to put young, healthy workers ahead of our elderly, vulnerable population."

DeSantis was asked if full-time Floridians would have access to shots ahead of winter residents and he offered a "we'll see."

Florida has more than three million people over the age of 70.

While it's believed fewer Canadians than usual have flown south due to COVID-19 travel restrictions, a large number of them are in the state.

Different provinces have different plans about when seniors will be immunized. Some have already started immunizing the elderly.

I wonder if there side effects for other artificial enhancements besides facial fillers.

A COVID-19 Vaccine Has Caused Side Effects for People With Cosmetic Facial Fillers

One of the two COVID-19 vaccines approved for use in the United States caused facial swelling for people with cosmetic facial fillers.

According to information presented during this month's meeting of a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) panel on Moderna's COVID-19 vaccine, two of four serious adverse events related to the vaccine in a phase 3 clinical trial happened to patients with the fillers, which are gel-like substances injected beneath the skin to help create a smoother and/or fuller appearance in the face.

One trial participant received the injection two weeks prior to getting vaccinated. The other received it six months prior to the shot. Both experienced facial swelling. The swelling was related to the vaccine, according to Moderna and an investigator.

"It is possible the localized swelling in these cases is due to an inflammatory reaction from interaction between the immune response after vaccination and the dermal filler. This phenomenon has been reported after natural infection (e.g., after an influenza-like illness)," the administration said in its briefing document to the Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee.

Dr. Shirley Chi, a dermatologist, told ABC 7 that the reaction to the vaccine was immunological.

"Your immune system which causes inflammation is revved up when you get a vaccine, that's how it's supposed to work. So it makes sense that you would see an immune response in certain areas where they see some substance that is not a naturally occurring substance in your body," she said.

Chi is recommending people who have the fillers still get the vaccine, since both patients who experienced swelling were treated for the side effect.

If a person has antibodies, do they still need to get vaccinated?

Anonymous

I know people at CP that have caught the virus and recovered. I will pass on this information to them.

If a person has antibodies, do they still need to get vaccinated?

I assume that would be a factor of the quantity of antibodies present. There has been little said on this as antibody tests disappeared into a black hole since May

It was only by digging that I found testing is even available - and available testing is quite recent  & not made a public or newsy thing .. dunno why?  Seems pretty important to me :confused1:

Certainly after the appropriate time period, an antibody test after vaccination (or getting it) would very be important to me ... even repeated every few months as verification I was safe

I remember reading that most people who recovered from COVID only had antibodies for a short time.
