COVID-19 vaccine efficacy plummets after 6 months: Study

The effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccines dropped dramatically after six months, according to a large study. The new study of U.S. military veterans found that vaccine efficacy against COVID-19 infection plummeted as much as 73% in six months.

The study – published in the journal Science – found that protection from COVID-19 infection provided by the three vaccines approved in the U.S. fell from 87.9% in February to 48.1% in October.

The study examined data from the Veterans Health Administration of 498,148 fully vaccinated veterans. Moderna's two-dose COVID-19 vaccine went from being 89% effective in March to 58% effective in September. The Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine had an 87% efficacy against coronavirus in March and dropped to only 45% in September. In the same six-month period, the Johnson & Johnson vaccine plummeted from 86% effectiveness to a mere 13%.

Ya, I'm hearing that - Not sure how legit yet. There is a strong and growing discredit movement, Blaze among it, so we'll see how it shakes out

The UK link similar was not from a sound site at all

I searched and found a Reuters page saying they wane after a few months, but nothing like that Blaze article & about where we kenew all along - no mention of the drama Blaze displays

Meantime data as above will counter it soundly .. clearly they are still making a huge difference including among older who were shot long ago

Children under 12 now make up the largest number of new COVID-19 infections as health officials say vaccinations for the age group are still weeks away.

Infections in that age group surpassed those of all other age groups for the first time in the fourth wave of the pandemic, Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) officials revealed Friday.

"It's not an unexpected pattern given the high level of vaccination in the other age groups," said Dr. Theresa Tam during a news conference.

"I think the key is that, in general, (with this age group) they have milder illnesses, but there are occasional or rare aspects of severe outcomes. But very rarely do they result in death."

People Under 30 Should Get Pfizer Vaccine Instead of Moderna: French Health Authority

Moderna Inc. on Tuesday sought conditional marketing authorization with the European Medicines Agency for use of its COVID-19 vaccine in children aged 6 to 11, coming as French authorities said people under age 30 shouldn't receive the shot.

"This marks our first submission for the use of our vaccine in this age group," said Stephane Bancel, Chief Executive of Moderna, adding the firm will submit the data to other regulatory agencies around the world.

But on Tuesday, the French National Authority for Health (HAS) announced that people under the age of 30 should receive Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine instead of Moderna's shot when possible, citing concerns that Moderna's vaccine carried a higher risk for heart issues. They stressed the risk of developing the heart condition is "very rare," according to a translated statement posted on the agency's website.

Alberta rolling out new COVID-19 treatment in phases; Hinshaw warns it's no substitute for vaccines

"Sotrovimab is a new drug that was developed specifically for treating patients with COVID-19 who have mild to moderate COVID-19 symptoms," Dr. Deena Hinshaw told reporters at a news conference in which she provided an update on the province's pandemic response.

"It is the first treatment to be offered to outpatients in Alberta. For maximum effectiveness, it must be administered within five days from when the symptoms begin.

"But let me stress that sotrovimab is not a replacement for COVID-19 vaccines. Albertans are still strongly encouraged to be vaccinated against the virus as vaccines are the most effective method to prevent the serious outcomes from the disease.

In a statement issued to Global News, AHS said the treatment is currently only being offered to people who are 65 or older and who have not received any doses of a COVID-19 vaccine. It is also being offered to people who have received a solid organ transplant or stem cell transplant, "regardless of vaccination status."

The monoclonal antibody treatment was approved by Health Canada in late July. AHS' website notes that "Health Canada has authorized the sale of this drug based on limited clinical testing in humans and/or quality information."

"Sotrovimab is reported to have the potential to prevent one hospital admission for every 20 patients who receive treatment," the health authority says.

"The treatment is being rolled out across the province in a phased approach, starting with those at the highest risk of severe outcomes like hospitalization," Hinshaw said.

This should not be surprising and will in time become the norm for all of us here - Vaccine effectiveness does decrease over time

BC is now offering 3rd shots officially currently for those over 70 and / or those with comorbidities and it is hard to not see that "passports" will at some point require 3rd shot[

UK is first along with Israel as they were first to start mass vaccinations

https://www.theepochtimes.com/brits-will-need-3-jabs-to-be-considered-fully-vaccinated-uk-prime-minister-johnson_4105147.html">Brits Will Need 3 Jabs to Be Considered 'Fully Vaccinated': UK Prime Minister Johnson

People will need to have COVID-19 booster shots on top of the original two doses to be considered "fully vaccinated" in the UK, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Monday.

At a Downing Street press briefing, Johnson said the concept of what constitutes "full vaccination" will need to be adjusted.

"On boosters, it's very clear that getting three jabs—getting your booster—will become an important fact and it will make life easier for you in all sorts of ways, and we will have to adjust our concept of what constitutes a full vaccination to take account of that," he said.

"As we can see from what's happening, the two jabs sadly do start to wane, so we've got to be responsible and we've got to reflect that fact in the way we measure what constitutes full vaccination."

Johnson said the government will be making plans to add the booster to the digital COVID-19 passport issued by the National Health Service.

The prime minister urged people to get the booster jab as soon as they are eligible. "It would be an utter tragedy if, after everything we have been through, people who had done the right thing by getting double vaccinated ended up becoming seriously ill or even losing their lives because they allowed their immunity to wane," he said.

Earlier on Monday, the UK government accepted the advice from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) to extend the booster vaccine programme to include people aged 40 to 49.

Health Secretary Sajid Javid said: "We know immunity to COVID-19 begins to wane after six months and new data published today shows a third dose boosts protection against symptomatic infection to more than 90 percent—this highlights just how important it is that everyone eligible gets their top-up jabs as soon as possible."

Not all infectious disease experts want boosters for the general population.

COVID-19 vaccine boosters for all adults is a 'slippery slope,' expert warns

An infectious disease expert has voiced his disapproval of COVID-19 vaccine boosters becoming available for all adults in Canada.

Dr. Neil Rau, who is also an assistant professor of medicine at the University of Toronto, said on The Roy Green Show on Sunday that Canada has to be "pragmatic" when it comes to how we distribute the boosters.

He argued that the current vaccine offers one to three months of preventing transmission of the virus before the "immunity starts to wane," therefore one booster wouldn't prevent spread for too long of a time.

"You can't have a situation where people aren't current every three months," he said. "You have to be pragmatic here."

He also was skeptical about revaccinating the entire population with a booster of the vaccine that's directed at the same "classic" variant of COVID-19.
