The province's top doctor has said he expects Omicron will become dominant within weeks.

More lockdowns soon methinks ... :yuk:

That would depend on if the new variant is filling hospitals and ICU's. But, they may decide to be proactive rather than reactive.

Britain recorded it's first death from the Omicron variant....there are no details about the age and health of the deceased individual..

The USA reached 800,000 COVID related deaths.

The head of Ontario's Science Advisory Table is urging people to stop their "wishful thinking" when it comes to the Omicron coronavirus variant, adding that any suggestion that the COVID-19 variant causes milder illness is a "myth."

"This is historical. This is unprecedented. This week Omicron will become the dominant variant in the province... People cannot imagine the sheer scale of what we are talking about here. It is really challenging," Dr. Peter Jüni, the head of the province's Science Advisory Table, said Monday morning.

"There is a myth out there that it's mild. We need to address this myth now."

Jüni said some believe that early data from South Africa indicates that the variant of concern causes milder illness but he was quick to point out some major differences between South Africa and Ontario.

"First of all, in South Africa, we only have about seven per cent of the population who are completely non-immune. All of those other people have either experienced infection, or vaccination, or both. We have about 30 per cent of the adults there who are immunological super humans because they actually were infected plus received two doses of the vaccine," he said.

"When you think about our situation, we have about 20 per cent of the population completely non-immune and we only have very few people, 10 per cent, who received their third dose or two doses and an infection. That's the difference we are talking about."

Jüni added that the median age in South Africa is about 27, compared to 44 in Ontario.

"Age is the most important risk factor," he said. "So we need forget about wishful thinking here with mild disease. We simply don't know."

[I have alluded to this "mild" thing before ... It was too early to know and especially here  - but there is some hope as he says "We simply don't know."]

At first glance it is. When one thinks on it, even since govt change (which has made things far worse) the savvy whites are very few and the totally uneducated and totally unaware are many. I'm guessin many similar situations of most everyone getting it exist in many very poor countries

Even worse, in those areas repeat  infection is common ... natural is not forever

I wish they would do more study and let us know on natural as we are in the dark on it - Seems they ignore it completely .. which is a great disservice to those who have been infected

And I'm guessin published case numbers are meaningless in these parts of the world as they have no way to know what they are

I really hope the data will show it's milder than other variants.

Alberta reported 202 cases of COVID today, 288 yesterday and 373 on Saturday..

There were three deaths over the past three days..

Alberta labs have also detected seven new cases of the omicron variant, the newest variant of concern..

The province now has identified 30 cases in total, 21 of them in the Calgary health zone.

Manitoba had 478 cases today.....their ICU's are reaching capacity..

Almost thirty one per cent of new cases in Ontario are Omicron.

Omicron is a great variant....

It's still too early to know with any certainty anything about it.

Frood

The South African doctors who have been treating it are very optimistic....based on the mildness.

That's the hope..

We'll know more a month from now.

Ok.... though Delta is a mild too, maybe not as mild, but authorities have yet to admit it was a positive. Omicron has been circulating for a long time too.... and presenting as sniffles or in rare cases, common rashes from already present viruses like herpes or Molluscum contagiosum.

How quick they scream danger.... how slow they admit otherwise.

....for booster(s) sake.

 3. Omicron has been circulating for a long time too.

4.  presenting as sniffles or in rare cases, common rashes from already present viruses like herpes or Molluscum contagiosum.

Of course.

Now responsibly support the 4 items you said above ... all 4 like a big boy

Now STFU until you responsibly support what you said above

Talk is cheap - Walk it

Yet you omitted the rest of what I said.... namely, that the jab junkies are so protective of their jab status symbols, they slow walk any good news 1st with Delta and 2nd with Omicron...

(And end doubling down on further boosters...)

If my talk is cheap, despite watching South African news and interviews with the doctors who initially alerted the world about a new variant after treating people for it, your talk has no value whatsoever.

...and such a variant would come from the subcontinent where medical care is spotty at best and the populace is largely distrustful of any vaccines due to the Gates Foundation and WHO doling out risky stuff for decades.

In a population that defies medical interventions for viruses, the viruses either die off or weaken down the line....much like influenza did.

...so we should thank Africa and their leaders.... (however many leaders are still alive despite speaking out and suddenly dying in weird circumstances.)
