More good news.

Canada inks deals with Pfizer, Moderna for coronavirus vaccine candidates

The Canadian government has signed new deals with pharmaceutical firms Pfizer and Moderna to secure millions of doses in 2021 of the coronavirus vaccine candidates each company is currently developing.

Procurement Minister Anita Anand made the announcement on Wednesday morning after Pfizer tweeted news of its deal — which is a joint partnership with German biotech firm Biontech — shortly before markets opened earlier that day.

"We are increasingly focused on the next stage of our recovery, including preparing Canada for mass vaccinations," said Anand in a press conference, stressing the need to diversify supply chains.

Pfizer also last month inked a deal with the U.S. government to supply the first 100 million doses of the vaccine it is developing in December.

That is a year from now.

I would guess they will work with companies and US scientists to bring Canadian approval to  same time as US approval

The urgency is such that things are being done quite different from past procedures - with everyone working together like never before

there are several other irons in the fire with other companies also

I thought we'd have a treatment by now, perhaps an existing one.

I hope we have millions of doses of a vaccine in 2021.

Dr. Fauci predicts drugmakers will likely produce 1 billion COVID-19 vaccines by the end of 2021

Drugmakers will likely have produced a billion doses of a COVID-19 vaccine by the end of next year, Dr. Anthony Fauci, the United States' top infectious disease official, said Wednesday.

"We are likely going to have maybe tens of million of doses in the early part of [next] year. But as we get into 2021, the manufacturers tell us that they will have hundreds of millions and likely a billion doses by the end of 2021," Fauci said in an interview with Reuters.

That is fantastic. Where does it stand as far as clinical testing and regulatory approval?

Believe a few groups of 80-150 have used it around the world. 100 percent effective, 6 percent mild side effects like headache, sore throat, etc...

...apparently frontline doctors are quietly dosing themselves as a prophylactic.

Doxycycline, Ivermectin, and Zinc....all used for decades...

I have never heard of ivermectin. Apparently, the FDA has approved it as a treatment.

Asymptomatic people can spread COVID-19

Even Asymptomatic People Carry the Coronavirus in High Amounts

Researchers in South Korea found that roughly 30 percent of those infected never develop symptoms yet probably spread the virus.

A new study in South Korea, published Thursday in JAMA Internal Medicine, offers more definitive proof that people without symptoms carry just as much virus in their nose, throat and lungs as those with symptoms, and for almost as long.

"It's important data, that's for sure," said Benjamin Cowling, an epidemiologist at the University of Hong Kong who was not involved in the work. "And it does confirm what we've suspected for a long time — that asymptomatic cases can transmit infection."

Discussions about asymptomatic spread have been dogged by confusion about people who are "pre-symptomatic" — meaning they eventually become visibly ill — versus the truly asymptomatic, who appear healthy throughout the course of their infection.

The new study is among the first to clearly distinguish between these two groups.

That was suspected but now is confirmed

Next up, can someone in incubation period infect others .. and if so, at what point in time?

A question. Does a person in incubation period test positive .. and if so, at what point in time?
