The Justice Department and other executive branch agencieshttps://www.foxnews.com/politics/feds-block-china-owned-telecom-service-from-operating-in-us">recommended Thursday that the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) revoke and terminate China Telecom Corp.'s authorizations to provide international telecommunication services to and from the U.S.

"Today, more than ever, the life of the nation and its people runs on our telecommunications networks," said John C. Demers, assistant attorney general for national security.

"The security of our government and professional communications, as well as of our most private data, depends on our use of trusted partners from nations that share our values and our aspirations for humanity," Demers said in a statement.

The Justice Department reviewed China Telecom's authorizations and determined the company had failed to comply with the terms of an existing agreement with the department. China Telecom is a subsidiary of the People's Republic of China state-owned telecommunications company.

In its recommendation, the executive branch agencies cited "increased knowledge of the PRC's role in malicious cyber activity targeting the United States" and "concerns that China Telecom is vulnerable to exploitation, influence, and control by the PRC government."

The FCC last May voted unanimously to deny another Chinese state-owned telecommunications company, China Mobile Ltd., the right to provide service in the U.S., saying the Chinese government could use the company to conduct espionage on the U.S. government. It said then it was "looking" at China Telecom's license.

Oh, Sigh ....

China Telecom denied the allegations.  "The company has always been extremely cooperative and transparent with regulators," spokesman Ge Yu told Fox News. "In many instances, we have gone beyond what has been requested to demonstrate how our business operates and serves our customers following the highest international standards. We look forward to sharing additional details to support our position and addressing any concerns."

In 2019 the Trump administration sanctioned Chinese telecom giant Huawei. The administration in February said it had proof Huawei had been spying on its customers for years.

Good article cc.

Not about this, but about China's unscrupulous methods, companies that relocated production from their home countries to China were forced to surrender their technology..

China acquired all of Taiwan's advanced technology through bullying, same with Japan and the USA.

Lowering the federal corporate tax rate brought in more federal revenue as companies repatriated cash. VP Pence suggested that companies that repatriate production would receive a total capital cost tax write off. The only reason that companies relocated to China was to take advantage of low wages. Foreign companies could not mass produce for the Chinese market. Now that wages are rising fast China is losing it's competitive advantage.

The West must repatriate our production lines, especially in critical medical and pharma supply industries. Now, the left will say it's a giveaway to big corporations making billions. But, let's never lose sight of the dangerous position being dependent on China for vital supplies has put us in. Not, to mention all the jobs that were lost.

Can we actually see manufacturing leaving China and returning to the USA for good? We have enjoyed how "cheap" products are when they are made in China. What's going to happen? We will be paying more for the same products when they are made in the USA? Can we afford that?

We sold our soul. It's more than time to buy it back. The West itself has made China into its master .. and gave away jobs that are so critical to survival much less living properly

Well, actually I didn't. I have always gone to great lengths to identify and stay away from China goods .. on  principle

It was easier for me as I have always bought only things I really need

Have always seen free trade as eventual suicide .. which is what it proved to be.

Once soul is sold, there's not much left .. whether country or individual.

I dunno what's going to happen from here on .. my country's leadership has always been  China-soft ... 1/2 of US is, EU is so maybe little will change .. and the world will continue to make China more and more dominant

It will change in major communication software .. clearly China misuses it to its advantage

There are way too many North American businesses that manufacture products in China. The labour cost in China is cheap. Make big money and have little ants work for you.

Labour is not that cheap anymore. Ditch China. Bring supply chains home.

but over here nobody wants to work for minimum wage at some factory. They will have to ship thousands of Chinese, Filippinos, and Mexicans over. Essential travel.

Have you ever heard of productivity. I remember reading a thread on VF a few years ago where Richard Kuklinski could not figure out why Costco is able to pay higher wages than Walmart. It's quite simple actually. Costco employees are about fifty per cent more productive than their Walmart counterparts.

This applies to manufacturing too. Chinese manufacturing employees are not as productive as their North American counterparts and not nearly as productive as Japanese and German manufacturing employees. So, if we repatriate production lines, the difference in productivity would offset the wage differential. Do you get what I am laying down VG?

I don't know how true that is. The Chinese working in factories have no choice but to work like sheeps. Over here people would bitch for working overtime. Over there a 15 hour shift is norm.

Are Chinese workers really not as productive? Workers are like robots on a soldier line. Would North American companies really want to move manufacturing here and pay people 6 times more per hour? Health benefits and paid sick days.

It's absolutely true. No offense TVG, but you don't understand what productivity is. Productivity is the rate of output per unit of input. Hundreds of employees working long hours performing a single repetitive task is not productivity. Fewer workers performing more tasks and achieving the same or higher levels of output is productivity.

Four years ago, China's labour costs were only 4% cheaper than those in the U.S. when productivity is factored in, according to Oxford Economics. Today, with rising wages in China, and increased productivity is factored wages are equal, if not slightly higher wages in China.

That's because wages in China have risen much faster than increases in productivity. Coupled with a strengthening yuan, Chinese labor costs have grown dramatically. Meanwhile, huge productivity improvements in the U.S. have helped keep labor costs down.

Interestingly, countries with lower number of hours worked have higher productivity. China is not on here, but if it was, it would be below the bottom countries. Chinese manufacturing is a low productivity per worker model.

A rising currency, too many employees performing too few tasks, better productivity in the West, and rapidly rising wages means production in China is not a money saver that it used to be.

Damn, that was a hell of a cunting. I don't think you meant to give old Vancouver Guy a cunting, but that is what you did. Arguing with you about economic matters is like taking on ceec about islam. Best bring your A game or not show up at all.

I don't find the top 4 surprising

I always knew Canadians were nowhere close to US and many others for productivity ... but it seems I did not know by how much

WOW  .. who would want to start a world product company in Canada

OK, not much you can buy from Canada but US is pretty efficient and competitive

As I recall, always was that way before China got its hooks into things ... and Mexico
