Richard Horton's pro-China and anti-U.S. remarks were used in a Facebook ad sponsored by CGTN, the Chinese state-controlled TV network.

Chinese Regime Controls ASEAN Countries Via Mekong River's 'Water Faucet,'



The Chinese regime is using the Mekong River, the most important water system in Southeast Asia, to control half of the ten member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), an expert said.



The Mekong River originates on China's Tibetan Plateau and flows through six countries. In early 2021, it once again experienced a serious drop in water levels, causing widespread international concerns. The Mekong River Commission, an international organization, issued a statement on Feb. 12, saying that the Mekong River water levels have fallen to "worrying levels."



In fact, for more than a decade since 2010, water crises have often erupted on the Mekong River.



A Chinese hydrologist tells The Epoch Times that one of the reasons behind this is that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has taken control of the "water tap" of the Mekong, and that the Mekong River has become a political bargaining chip for the CCP to use in controlling half of the ten countries of ASEAN.



During a recent exclusive interview with The Epoch Times, German-based hydrology expert Wang Weiluo said that ever since 2010, the Mekong River has been experiencing frequent water crises. But for the CCP, the Mekong River is no longer simply an issue of water resource utilization, but more of political and diplomatic leverage.



With the control of the Mekong's "water faucet," the CCP has gained the political leverage to control half of the ASEAN countries. The hegemonic behavior of the CCP in the Mekong River Basin has also drawn the attention of the United States and Japan, making the Mekong River a new geopolitical hotspot.



According to Wang, using the Mekong River as a political bargaining chip is harmful to both other countries and the CCP itself. The large and small dams built on the Lancang River, the upper reach of the Mekong River inside China, not only pose a direct threat to the 70 million people whose livelihoods depend on the Mekong River, but also to the Chinese people in the Lancang River basin. The CCP's predatory water development has also resulted in a waste of resources.

A highly classified war game the United States Air Force (USAF) conducted in Fall 2020 ended with Chinese missiles pounding American bases while China invaded Taiwan, Yahoo News reported Wednesday.





The war simulation started with China mounting a biological attack against U.S. bases and warships in the Indo-Pacific region, Yahoo News reported. China then used a military exercise as cover to invade Taiwan and launch missiles against U.S. bases and naval forces.



This simulation is one in a series of war games where the U.S. loses, according to Air Force Lt. Gen. S. Clinton Hinote.



"More than a decade ago, our war games indicated that the Chinese were doing a good job of investing in military capabilities that would make our preferred model of expeditionary warfare, where we push forces forward and operate out of relatively safe bases and sanctuaries, increasingly difficult," Hinote told Yahoo News.



"The trend in our war games was not just that we were losing, but we were losing faster," he added.



"Whenever we war-gamed a Taiwan scenario over the years, our Blue Team routinely got its ass handed to it, because in that scenario time is a precious commodity and it plays to China's strength in terms of proximity and capabilities," senior RAND Corporation analyst David Ochmanek told the outlet.

US Military Official: 'China and Russia May Be Collaborating' South of US Border



A U.S. military official on Tuesday said Russia and the Chinese regime "may be collaborating" south of the U.S.-Mexico border—namely, Venezuela.



U.S. Southern Command chief Navy Admiral Craig Faller said China and transnational criminal organizations are "the two biggest threats" that U.S. forces in the SOUTHCOM, or United States Southern Command, area face.



"China is the greatest long-term strategic threat to the security in the 21st century, the Chinese Communist Party's insidious, and corrosive and corrupt influences at work globally and in this region," Faller said in a news conference.



Faller listed actions the Chinese regime has taken in the SOUTHCOM area of command in recent months.



"Some examples include their pursuit of multiple port deals, loans for political leverage, vaccine diplomacy that undermines sovereignty, state surveillance I.T., and the exploitation of resources such as illegal, unregulated, and unreported fishing," he said, adding that the regime has outpaced the United States in vaccine diplomacy and is working to create economic networks and develop infrastructure.



The regime is "engaged in this hemisphere to further their interests in economic dominance," the official said, referring to the Western Hemisphere that includes North and South America.



"We see and are looking with our fellow combatant commanders at areas where China and Russia may be collaborating," Faller noted. "That is a particular focus of ours and is a concern where and when we see it."



Russia and China, he said, are apparently converging their interests in Venezuela, as the two countries attempt to court the support of socialist strongman Nicolas Maduro. China and Russia don't have a formal alliance but have increasingly developed a strategic partnership based on economic and military cooperation.



"Venezuela is the most notable example, where, at the diplomatic level, they were certainly and continue to be engaged to block any effort at U.N. solutions or global solutions," Faller said.



This week, Faller told members of the Senate Armed Services Committee that more funding is needed for SOUTHCOM to develop greater intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance capabilities.



"The conditions that the pandemic has caused in Latin America and the Caribbean rival those of the Great Depression here in the United States," Faller told senators. "China has moved in particularly heavy handed ... and they're using vaccines to leverage deals for their 5G, and they're using it to drive a wedge between some nations in the region."



U.S. influence in the region, he added, is "eroding" due to China's influence.



"What I hear from our partner is: 'We know that the United States military is the best, [and] we want to partner with you. But, we're drowning, and we need a LifeRing, and we're going to take the LifeRing from whoever throws it,'" including the Chinese, Faller remarked.
