Minnesota's governor is preparing for potential unrest after the verdict is announced in Derek Chauvin's trial, with the memory of rioting in the summer of last year following George Floyd's death still fresh in many minds.



Gov. Tim Walz announced Monday that he declared a state of emergency as jurors in the trial weigh whether to convict or acquit the former Minneapolis police officer in Floyd's death.



Officials worry that after Chauvin's verdict is announced, rioting like the violence that took place last year in the wake of Floyd's death will happen again. Over 1,025 properties were damaged, burned, or destroyed during the riots, with damages totaling tens of millions of dollars.

Joe Biden to Give Speech Following Derek Chauvin Verdict



Politicians are going all out in their effort to intimidate the jury in the Derek Chauvin trial — and now President Joe Biden has announced that he will be giving a speech following the verdict.



Biden has previously said that George Floyd was "murdered," and on Tuesday said that he is "praying for the right verdict."



"It's overwhelming, in my view," Biden said of the evidence against Chauvin in the Oval Office, where he was meeting with Hispanic lawmakers.

"More officers intervened and threw punches — what police referred to as 'focused blows' — while getting the man off of the sergeant," the station added. "Police say they also used pepper spray."



Authorities arrested 36-year-old Randy Gray in connection with the attack and charged him with assaulting a public safety officer, assault, harassment, disorderly conduct, and criminal mischief. He was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center.
