The New York Times quietly edited what many saw as an anti-Semitic trope from an article about the congressional vote for funding the Iron Dome missile defense system in Israel.



The original article blamed "influential lobbyists and rabbis" for the pressure felt by some Democrats to support the $1 billion funding for the missile system. Congressional correspondent Catie Edmondson tried to explain why Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) cried on the floor of Congress after she changed her "no" vote to "present."



Many immediately saw the description as evoking the anti-Semitic trope of Jews controlling the government, and some posted the problematic section to social media.



"The causal Antisemitism never ceases to shock me," replied Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-N.Y.).



Rather than issue a clarification or explanation, the New York Times simply deleted the problematic description.



"AOC isn't afraid of "lobbyists" or "rabbis," it's that she realizes it's unpopular among NY *voters* that she opposes saving the lives of Jewish children from terrorist bombs. Poor AOC!" tweeted Seth Mandel, editor of the Washington Examiner.



Ocasio-Cortez faced similar backlash when she tried on Friday to apologize for the change in her vote without offering much of an explanation. She posted a long statement that left many bewildered and angry at the socialist democrat.







Some pointed out that the premise behind the description didn't make much sense given that the vote was overwhelmingly in favor of providing the funds for the missile defense system.

NY Times issues major correction after claiming Border Patrol agents used horse reins 'to strike' migrants.  In describing the actions of the Border Patrol agents, the New York Times embellished what Border Patrol agents had actually done. In fact, the so-called "newspaper of record" claimed that mounted agents had struck Haitian migrants.



However, that was not true. More importantly, the photographer who snapped the infamous images of the skirmish between Border Patrol and the Haitian migrants had already said, before the Times published its story, that he did not witness the alleged abuse of Haitian migrants.



The correction admits what was already known at the time the story was published: There was no evidence that Border Patrol agents had struck migrants.

Liberals and others on the left lashed out at Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia after he left a meeting Tuesday with President Joe Biden without agreeing to vote for his $3.5 trillion infrastructure bill.



Manchin has said previously that he wouldn't go along with Democratic schemes that didn't have some component of bipartisan support from Republicans in order to diffuse the divisive state of politics. In response, MSNBC host Joy Reid has called on Democrats to "wage war" on him and Sinema for standing in the way of the Democratic agenda.



Liberals on social media immediately excoriated Manchin for his latest statement.



"Joe Manchin is really getting on my nerves. Tell us your number on the budget bill, Joe. Stop grandstanding for attention," wrote "Star Trek" star George Takei.



"Joe Manchin is openly unprincipled beyond adhering to whatever benefits Joe Manchin. None of this is surprising," tweeted transgender activist Charlotte Clymer.



"I hope this guy loses everything. Yes, his seat, but also his funding, his staff, his briefcase, his godd**n parking spot. Take it all, he doesn't deserve the platform," responded another critic.



Progressive groups are also planning "flotilla" protests outside a houseboat owned by Manchin until Friday in an attempt to pressure him to vote with the other Democrats.

"There's a wide agreement that we need to address climate change but less agreement on how, how fast and at what cost," Manchin, the chairman of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, said during his opening remarks.



Manchin raised similar concerns about protecting the coal industry in West Virginia during a conversation hosted by The National Press Club in April.



"As chairman of the Senate Energy and Natural Resource Committee, ensuring our coal miners aren't left behind as America transitions to a cleaner energy future is one of my top priorities," he said.



"While the industry has been in a steady downturn in job opportunities, maintaining those good paying jobs as we reduce emissions is both possible and it's our responsibility."



He added that he was "for innovation, not elimination" and argued that other countries would continue operating carbon-emitting coal mines even if the U.S. stopped. "It's not called North America climate, it's not called West Virginia climate, it's global climate, and there's more fossil being used in the world today than ever before."



He added: "If you want to clean up the climate, if you want to help Mother Earth, then you better advanced carbon capture sequestration and utilization."

Health Canada has approved four COVID vaccines so far. More vaccines are in development and will get approval.
