Your diesel SUV will last almost forever. Hey, you live near lots of water. You should consider getting a boat or an RV.

Boats are cool, but I think RVs are still the best, I mean it's practically a mobile home, something that I've always dreamed of.  But then I'm kind of poor now after buying my Mazda, think I'll stick to my car tent until I can save up for an RV.

Used Aliners or A frame campers are great for towing, cheap, and offer room and a hard shell.

That's an RV I've never thought of, before I was thinking about a SCAMP 13' version/model, but then I have the admit the Aliners look more modern while the SCAMPs look like a hard boiled egg.

I really like how they can be folded down while traveling on the road, really helps reduce a lot of drag.  Before I was thinking about one of the T@B S teardrop trailers.

That is a practical little unit for one person, possibly a couple.

Frood

They make the most sense for weight and aerodynamics, secure sides, insulation, standing room when changing or stretching legs, and stowing of external campground gear.

Some people even mod them to be able to access and sleep in them for stealth urban camping without having to pop the top up. ie... park on a street and crawl in by the side/with a sleeping mat and bag on the floor.

That's handy.

Frood

Comfortable compromises, I reckon. People have modded them differently for things like internal/external showers, cassette/composting toilets, external slide out kitchen barbecues, and the brand news ones often have these options.

I used to like camping and fishing trips. Now I take day fishing trips in the summer.

My vehicle is tricked out for camping large or small but I prefer quick and easy unless it's a medium to longer stay.

Just bought a couple more mesh encased hammocks for quick sleeping in dry weather. Everything fits in a couple bags on the floor well of the back seats. Beats hauling out pelican cases from the tub and taking 45 minutes to set up camp.

I never venture more than a couple hours from home to fish. I leave early in summer mornings, and I'm back at night. Hopefully with a cooler full of pickerel.

Lol now you got me tempted and the Aliner is on my consider list.  I like teardrop trailers, but one thing I hate about most RV is they attract too much attention, looks like the Aliner solves this issue.

Anywhere from 2-8 hours away for a fish, and at least 2 days. I've got a 40 litre fridge/freezer in the vehicle and 200 watts of solar panel. No rush to get home.
