E. Gary Gygax, the guy who invented the Dungeons and Drangons role playing game loved to use terms like guttersnipe and troglodyte is a lot of his books and writings but that was in the late 1970's to 1980's.  Even then they were archaic but added for high fantasy/mideval feel.
