I had a pencil but then I threw it at Benzo in a different thread.

Is it okay to use a pen for the test?

Sorry about the test, just a test spam..

There's been a lot lately.

If bots are successfully guessing/discerning the captcha codes I would upgrade the captcha difficulty or use a different sort of captcha.

On a forum I once ran I used a text-color formatted question: "What color is this text?" with a textbox to type in the color (making sure to disregard caps so "green" worked as well as "Green") and bots were basically a non-issue.

Instead of sometimes hundreds of spammers trying to create accounts every day I instantly got none.

That was a forum based on the SMF platform, not phpBB, but there may be similar options in the admin panel?

Hope this helps.

Yep, make it more difficult.

My guess from the OP is that the problem isn't coming from bots registering accounts, but by those using guest posting.

It's bots using guest posting..

I changed the op, from the link to whatever it was they were promoting.

vitty, did you find that the bots came in waves when you were an admin?

We've usually had guest posting in one form or another in the ten years we've been around..

We can go months without a single spambot post.

Yeah, I noticed.  Why not delete rather than edit?

There were already two replies to it..

And I wanted to say, I'm aware of the spam..

I made my point, any further spam gets deleted.

I see. I had asked because if that's what you prefer I'd do that instead.  I've been deleting, cuz once edited there's nothing left.  ; )  But I wouldn't delete a thread with responses either.  Also, I thought you might just be taking time to look at the IP.

I just delete them.....this was an exception..

I don't look at the IP's........I usually don't waste anytime deleting their spam.
