Quote from: "Dove"I loved the condo I had in florida. I had the best color pallet. We could bbq, right on our third floor patio. The pool was always hoppin. It was really nice.

Downtown Calgary has some very beautiful condos..

In the summer time if you are nearby, you can smell the aroma from the barbeques.

Nope your right. Where I'm at I would say it's 50/50 . I think it has to do with insurance...  renters insurance.

In the US most states have a pretty strict fire code for attached dwellings. In many areas having a propane fired grill is a no-no. Propane tanks explode and propane grills cannot be kept within 20 feet of a door or window opening.

Of course this doesn't address the issue of charcoal grills which are probably just as dangerous, if not more so. Every year hundreds of people set fire to their homes with barbecue grills. Between 2005 and 2009 over 8,000 were reported in the US alone because people are DUMB!

If you are going to burn your own home down that perfectly fine with me. But when you live in attached housing and the chances are that you will burn or neighbors house down as well; that's a completely different story. Most smart condo associations forbid outdoor grilling and with good reason.

And for that exact reason, Renee I would not want to live in a condo or an apartment. I've lived in an apartment in the past and some people were down right scary when they bbq'd.

It's too confining even if you are allowed to bbq.

Annie

Yep, too claustrophobic for me.

Condos are a good fit for single people that like to travel.

Annie

Def not for people like me, my hubby, daughter and four cats.....lol

My family situation is not that different from your own except for one cat and it's not us either.

Annie

Also with condos I don't like is that you could be high up in one. I'm terrified of heights, even on a balcony.  The 3rd or 4th floor maybe but any higher up would be just too much.

Some people like the view GrAnnie.

Annie

A nice view is great but you can go up to any mountain close by and have an excellent view for free.

That's how I see it too, but down town high rise living is popular in Calgary and many other cities.

Annie

It's popular because they're close to shopping and always have an excellent view, unless they're the unfortunate ones who have a building built next to them blocking their view. That would suck.

They provide a certain lifestyle and often have a gym in them.
