Quote from: "seoulbro"^^He politicizes climate change and exaggerates it's severity and the effectiveness of the commonly prescribed methods that are supposed to stop or slow the process of an ever changing climate. Romero is just an average citizen. He is not the problem.

This an editorial that appeared in Postmedia network. It shows the absurdity and outright dishonesty about climate change. This is what happens when senior members of a government, in this case Secretary of State John Kerry are involved with something that should be the domain of engineers and economists.

QuoteEvery few months, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry calls climate change as great a threat, or a greater threat, than ISIS.

He did it again Friday in Vienna at one of the United Nations' never ending meetings on climate change, this one about eliminating man-made greenhouse gases called hydrochlorofluorocarbons, under the UN's Montreal protocol.

"What you are doing here right now is of equal importance, (to fighting ISIS and other terrorist groups) because it has the ability literally to save life on this planet," Kerry said.

The problem with such statements is that they reveal not only Kerry's lack of focus on fighting terrorism, but a misunderstanding of man-made climate change.

In Kerry's world, apparently, there is some sort of perfect climate that would exist if not for the presence of humanity on the planet burning fossil fuels for energy in the latter half of the 20th century.

In this world, Kerry apparently believes, there would never be droughts, or hurricanes, or floods, or long periods of natural cooling or warming, resulting in people dying, or being forced to flee from where they live, or nations going to war over a lack of resources such as water and food.

The reality is natural climate change has caused all these events throughout human history.

Indeed, before human history began, natural climate change repeatedly led to major extinctions of life on Earth.

The scientific thinking about climate change is that there has been an abnormal warming starting in the latter half of the 20th century, caused by humanity's burning of fossil fuels and various land use practices sending abnormally large amounts of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.

But the idea that without this, the climate would never pose a potential existential threat to life on Earth is absurd.

Natural climate change has always posed that threat. To think otherwise borders on delusional.

No more droughts, hurricanes, floods, cooling or warming if we put millions of people out of work by  and reduce their standard of living with punitive taxes. Pure political hogwash. It also encourages the kind of green corruption that we have seen here in Ontario and the Solyndra scandal in the US.

There are many practical solutions economists and engineers could be doing to adapt to a changing climate that will not put Canada at a competitive disadvantage and punish working Canadians. It also will not encourage green crony capitalism.

Anyone that thinks oil and petrochemical products will not be widely used at the end of this century is a denier.

Coal is nearly finished. The Brits changed from coal to fuel oils in the early 1900s for their warships. How many Hybrid cars do you see on the roadways now. How many are electric only? Less and less will petrochemicals be used or needed. Big break throughs in rapid transit as well. Energy breakthroughs every day. Should one even care if it benefits humanity?

World coal consumption increases from 2012 to 2040 at an average rate of 0.6%/year, from 153 quadrillion Btu in 2012 to 169 quadrillion Btu in 2020 and to 180 quadrillion Btu in 2040.

Demand for coal is temporarily slow because of the decline in economic fortunes in the BRIC countries. Make no mistake though, they need cheap abundant energy. Without other widespread cheap sources like hydroelectricity, coal will continue to fuel the power needs of developing nations.

Look at it this way Herman. Trump pumped these Union coal miners up like no tomorrow. What fools? What purpose does coal serve these days? To pollute the air? Don't think they use it for the manufacturing of Steel any more? I suppose some 3rd world countries, or the backwards types still support its usage.
