What a great idea. Now you just have to figure out how the armed police officer is going to be at the exact right place at the exact right time.

There are over 15,000 elementary and secondary schools in Canada. You should start a GoFundMe.

What a stupid thing to say.

JOE

Quote from: "Oberon"Not if you're Joe.

Well in that case leopard socks, then your friends in the police force are incapable of protecting us. A few weeks ago I had to fight off this young punk who was trying to sexually molest a woman. Luckily I was able to prevent him from doing that. But it was a scuffle that lasted 10 minutes. Your friends in the police force were nowhere to be found. And I got no help from onlookers who wouldn't intervene to help us. Since your friends in the police force in Canada can't protect us, does that give us license to fight back and kill those who the threAten us? Luckily I was around to fight for that woman. She was helpless. So I had to fulfill the position as policeman where your friends in the police force couldn't. Since you police caint protect us can I do the honours and kill some little fucker who is trying to kill me or someone else who I'm trying to protect?

Bricktop

Well, Joe, seeing as how you asked.

I'm fucked if I know what you can do in Canada, which, I must highlight, is a separate sovereign nation to Australia.

But, in answer to your observation that the Police cannot protect you, you are completely correct. At any one time, the proportion of active, patrolling police officers to citizens is about .05%, give or take. Probably less in bigger countries.

Society is breaking down. The population is splintering into diverse groups, many with conflicting ambitions and principles. The stresses applied by Governments, vainly trying to maintain management over an increasingly unruly and dissonant community is only making things worse.

But Joe, let me remind you its not the Police that CAUSE crime. It is the failure of said Governments. The influence of "criminologists" that have caused the Justice system to side with the criminals. It is your reluctance to pay more for more police and more gaols. It is single mothers, welfare state handouts, the mental health epidemic which cannot contain the madness within, mass media glamourising violence and crime (typically American), courts failing to punish appropriately, and a folly of misplaced resourcing by crime prevention agencies. For example, far more expenditure goes into traffic control and management than crime prevention. Apparently, chaos in the streets is preferable to chaos on the road. It is laws that makes crime from drug abuse, clogging the system and making it easier on true villains.

All of these things perpetrated in your name, Joe.

Its not the Police that are the problem. Its you. And me. And everyone else who sits by and accepts the status quo.

Bricktop

Inasmuch as citizens preventing crime, and protecting themselves, the law here is quite clear. Citizens are allowed to protect themselves and their property to the degree approriate to the threat.

Thus, if you are attacked by someone, you can fight back and subdue the offender without fear of prosecution. You can constrain them until the police arrive ("citizens arrest", if you will). You must use reasonable force. If a twelve year old kid comes at you with a small stick, you cannot respond with a baseball bat. Common sense prevails.

You cannot shoot a person for calling you a "fag".

Sorry if I imply that common sense is the key. In your case, I am not sure what rule to apply.

I recommend running away.

Spray and prey people. Let go of your entire arsenal. Just like in 007.

It does sound expensive.

This is precisely the issue which the opposition parties should attack Christy Clark with. They can make this an election issue by arguing that her cutbacks to schools have cut to the bone so deep, that there are insufficient staff and resources to adquately protect the students.  They can also argue that all the money which has gone to private schools should be given back to the public schools in the name of public safety. Likewise I know that the cutbacks to the coast guard became an election issue in the federal one, and it cost the Tories a lot of seats. The NDP should hammer Christy & the BC Liberals on this issue.

I'm surprised that a staunch New Democrats such as yourself can't see this is as an issue for the NDP to exploit in the upcoming election.

That would only be true if they already had a cop with very little to do in every single school in the province.

Its quite simple.

Everyone is bad until they prove they are not.

And NOBODY is on YOUR side.
