If you're old enough to remember when they started talking about an obesity epidemic in the Western world, what would you consider to be some of the most significant factors that have contributed to our collective weight gain and lack of fitness across several countries?

Also, do you think the BMI is an accurate way to determine how much weight we might need to lose to be healthy?

Lastly, if you're comfortable talking about it, how much exercise do you get?

I have a very sedentary job. I sit in the hogger's seat for hours on end. When I get to the bunk house or home I do sit ups, cardio or lift dumb bells.

Lets try not to derail real threads with insults please. Take it to RR.
I've learned that if someone asks you a really stupid question and you reply by telling them what time it is, they'll leave you alone

Have you seen the BMI chart for modern day???  Good grief!  Its an anorexic chart!  Its unrealistic.

I get a lot of walking and do a lot of walking...it makes me feel better.  I too also lift weights at home and do some sit ups and little excercises.  I use to go to the gym but I have a medical issue and had to stop for a while....but I want to go back.

I believe its important to keep the body moving.  Meditation, stretching are also a must.  But its not just the exercise, its eating well too.

I dont care about being anorexic or even looking like a body builder...to me both are unhealthy and are addictions.

You live a healthy lifestyle Berry. I try to, but long hoursof sitting in a locomotive is not healthy. I make up for it at the bunk house or at home.

I try to stay active when not at work..

Just like iron horse jockey my job is not physical..

I make time to exercise for thirty minutes every second day and one hour on Saturdays.

I am golf mad.  Besides that I have a fitness centre in my building that I utilize 2-3  times a week. I like using it a lot more than going to a gym.

Besides, that I  made the healthiest change in my life. I quit smoking.

I will state this:  Fat fucking land whales need to stop unhinging their jaws, like a snake, and sliding down burger after burger...

THAT will make you fat, unhinging your jaw and eating like a snake, non fucking stop.

I am blessed with good genes, that allow me to control my weight with very little effort.  HOWEVER, I also watch what I eat, to a certain degree also.

I have a gym set up in my  basement. I pump iron three times a week. When I'm on drilling leases and living in a wellsite trailer, I  bring some dumb bells with me.

Some of you know I've made a complete overhaul of my lifestyle since last year.

I started off by walking about 5 miles every day, and I kept it going for most days since, even increasing it to average about 8 miles a day.

I also go to a gym to do cardio and weight training 2 to 3 times a week.

Overall I eat much healthier than I did prior to working out, but I still eat some junk food every week. It's a work in progress.

I've come to the conclusion that I'll always be at least overweight according to the BMI standard, and I'm fine with it.

I'm the opposite shin. I'm naturally slim. I'm envious of guys like you and Herm who put on muscle easily.
